My father bought in 1999 a Volkswagen Golf MK4, its been almost 20 years and the car is still running perfectly after 500k kilometers! About an year ago he gave me this car and I'm in love with it. My next car will definitely be Volkswagen golf

I'm guessing he gave you the 1.9tdi PD engine. Even though they are slow AF, they make up for everything with reliability. Trust me I know I have a pd engine in my seat.

This is legitimately the best car VW has ever made. This engine, this concept of the car... I guess we will never have something like this again. Greetings from Germany.

@@_________________7791 u must have your own "crap" experiences with those engines than. Ive got mine G4 1.6 and even when I had some kind of problem (camshaft sensor) that did not even left me on the side of the road. After 20 years that was the first and the one and only "biggest" problem. No turbo, no compressor, theres no bigger risk if somethings gonna fail earlier with turbo or compressor. But atleast I like the torque in new engines what comes with turbos or compressors :-)

i just love mk4 golf’s we had one in 2005 and since than it’s one of my favorite car’s i remember driving this car in nfs2 all the time i’m 17 now and i think this will be my first car not the r32 of course
I miss those cars. This car has the best sound a vw ever had.
I've had escort cosworth, sierra cosworth, golf vr6 , mr2turbo, bmw m3 , 205 gti, escort rs turbo, golf gti mk2 etc etc and my r32 sounds the best by far. built like a tank and as cool as any vdub. nearly every one that has owned one has fell in love with it. and now prices are going up big time. grab one before they are silly money
Actually, the Golf 4 GTI was a GREAT car! Especially the '20th AE Edition', the '337', or the 24v VR6 GTI. All truly EXCELLENT, even though they departed a bit from the true GTI pedigree. They were still very well made, handled well, and were pretty fast. The VR6 could do 0-100kmH (0-60 MPH) in 6.5 seconds, which was quick for a FWD car in the early 2000's.

I once tried to run down one of these in a straight line in my old Megane 275, I did not succeed. When this thing was released it must have been bat shit crazy. I grew up around the R32 MK5 so this was a little before my time but still, sounds the best to me.
It was also the first VW with DSG/a doubleclutchgearbox

I totally miss the old vr6, if it's in a r32, a mk3 or an old passat 35i. It's not a fast engine but an engine with heart and personnality

Great vid. The U.S version MK4 R32 had 250 hp.
A couple bolt ons and it’s quicker. Schrick or Techtonics cams and crank pulley and exhaust and you’re just about 300Bhp

Looking to buy one of those! It's a quintessential VW, so VR6, so Haldex... And damn, that noise. Love it!
I know this video is over 3 years old, but my dad owns a Midnight Blue Pearl Mk4 R32 with 150k miles, which around 30 of them are still on the roads in the UK. I have always wanted a Mk4 R32, I cannot wait until I'm old enought to buy a car.

When Golf Mk4 GTI was released it was a "horrible" car but today it's a bargain. €3000 (max I would say) and you got a reasonably quick car with a turbo with great tuning possibilities. And let us not forget how beautiful it is if you lower it and put on some nice wheels. My first car and a great one.

Love my R32.. Just picked it up a couple months ago.. Tornado red and it definitly feels special.. Quick, kind of. Fun as hell to drive and a sound that turns all heads.

I had this exact car, same color and everything. US spec, but I imported the euro HID headlights, blue tint mirrors, and side markers. I miss it. Mine had a magnaflow exhaust. Honestly, I wish I kept it.

i have a mkiv jetta, the chassis is amazing . it could b faster , but it takes away from the fun to drive dynamics . i miss german cars from this era
You forgot the M140i with the 3.0l straight six, and rear wheel drive. Lots of fun!

Jammer dat deze motoren niet meer gemaakt worden. Met die geweldige volkswagen v6 geluid. Die is echt uniek en adiktief.
Je bedoeld ''Met die geweldige AUDI v6 geluid'' Er is niets unieks aan... gemiddeld audi a3 dat gesloopt wordt zit een 3.2 v6 blok in....
not a v6. A vr6. closer to an inline 6 with 1 cylinder bank but slightly angled (15° or 30° based on the version I think). the sound is absolutly briliant and i hope vw/audi is going to bring out some more cars with these VR engines.
I have this car and it comes perfect AS-IS. Very well engineered car. I still don't know the difference between v6 and vr6 though 😅

Talking about big engines small cars , you said Audi was the craziest fitting a 5 cylinders in their A3 but you forgot there's also i6 from BMW in the M135i and M140i

You are not right about the DSG....I have one with DSG, and i can tell that is drives wonderful with DSG, it shift's gear very nice, and even faster then manuel. I searched long time the get one in Deep blue with DSG.....i love everything about this car, and would never trade for one with manuel :)

I didn’t know you could get the mk4 R32 with DSG. You couldn’t in the United States. Then the mk5 R32 in the U.S. was only available with DSG...
The GTI mk4 was a bad car? What are you saying? Maybe it was the last with best qualities and most expensive technologies. Millions of cars with one of the best engine ever...
never where a real fast car, but ooh boy this sound the enginge produce its pure porn. the new r with the 4cylinder lost the soul. yes its faster and better but it cant give you what an r32 can give you
IT was fast for its time 6.4 to 60. keep in mind the MK4 came out in 1997
