I remember something said about psychology that him saying that is like a criminal or kid instantly saying "I'm not doing anything" before the parent or officer even says anything. He was basically telling the cop whats about to go down
If he had his flashlight in left then he couldn't quickly deflect the gun properly (as shown from the cop car cam) to move slightly crouch strafing to the left which could've led to him getting shot because the time it takes for him to draw his weapon versus him agility moving would've resulted in a completely different outcome. Unsure if this was planned as the 2nd Officer was covering that direction and did it near perfectly but I really think if he had done it the proper way, he would've died or worse but it's all speculation. Everything is happening in split milliseconds so that touch he did gave enough time for the offender to miss shots. Basically, the proper way isn't always the best way.

The initial officer who made contact was saved by his partner. Not only that, the initial officer instinctively slapped the gun downwards before running around the front of the truck. I believe that saved his life, buying him barely enough time to retreat while his partner was able to draw. Great work boys 💪

Officer Dooley quick reflexes saved his life. I thought initially he didn’t see the gun, on the second video I realized his head was turned away. I hope both officers are doing well. The stress from that has got to be immeasurable

He already had his flashlight pointed at the man's hip in anticipation of a possible gun threat long before the man had his gun out.
not just quick reflexes. it was a poor tactical decision by the shooter to not have the gun chambered. He had the drop and pulled the trigger then moved his other hand over to rack the slide and by that time he got shot. The officer is lucky that he wasn't fully prepared to use the gun or he'd have been shot.
Backup officer did a great job! He had his distance and his positioning allowed for him to be out of the way enough that his partner could get out of the danger zone in addition to having a clear shot.

Ever watch people draw who aren't used to doing holster work, or worse, don't actually have their gun in a holster and instead have it in a waistband or belt? That's what that looks like. If he knew how to draw or he had a good grip on the gun when he drew, that officer would have been shot at least once before he got clear. The officer also did a great job using his weak hand to knock the gun out of target while he was getting clear.
Watch at 0.25 speed and check the dashcam footage. Especially from 10:12 and you can see perp was trying to get his aim on the officer through his driver side window but another officer was already striking him from behind. Perp was just slow but had clear intention of trying to shoot.

The initial officer who made contact was saved by his partner. Not only that, the initial officer instinctively slapped the gun downwards before running around the front of the truck. I believe that saved his life, buying him barely enough time to retreat while his partner was able to draw. Great work boys 💪

Just got this in my feed. Crazy how a calm encounter escalates . Thank God those officers responded as they did. They guy wanted to meet his maker, and his wish was fulfilled.
They ran his info, and he was cleared to go after they ran the drug dog around his truck, and he decided to pull a gun and attempt to murder the officer and ended up dead for his troubles. WTF?

Officer Dooley quick reflexes saved his life. I thought initially he didn’t see the gun, on the second video I realized his head was turned away. I hope both officers are doing well. The stress from that has got to be immeasurable

?? Are you (and the ones upvoting you) watching it on a cellphone .?. In the second video, you can clearly see that Dooly only turned his head away for a fraction of a second. He already had his flashlight pointed at the man's hip in anticipation of a possible gun threat long before the man had his gun out.
not just quick reflexes. it was a poor tactical decision by the shooter to not have the gun chambered. He had the drop and pulled the trigger then moved his other hand over to rack the slide and by that time he got shot. The officer is lucky that he wasn't fully prepared to use the gun or he'd have been shot.

Backup officer did a great job! He had his distance and his positioning allowed for him to be out of the way enough that his partner could get out of the danger zone in addition to having a clear shot.

That being said yes the cop was fishing the old man, and he took the bait. Is it fair? That draw was so slow, almost makes me think this is a suicide by cop scenario.
Ever watch people draw who aren't used to doing holster work, or worse, don't actually have their gun in a holster and instead have it in a waistband or belt? That's what that looks like. If he knew how to draw or he had a good grip on the gun when he drew, that officer would have been shot at least once before he got clear. The officer also did a great job using his weak hand to knock the gun out of target while he was getting clear.
Watch at 0.25 speed and check the dashcam footage. Especially from 10:12 and you can see perp was trying to get his aim on the officer through his driver side window but another officer was already striking him from behind. Perp was just slow but had clear intention of trying to shoot.
