Your mothers magnolia tree looks so good and it grows really nice if you keep it groomed. We had one for our zone 6b and it grew so big in our courtyard and when it bloom the patio doors were open all the time for the sweet smell. Your father is right the view is worth a thousands bucks, save it as much as you can. We start out in views worth having and the city keeps moving out and we lose it. Not moving any more, or starting over, been there done that so many times.Your parents house and yard is heaven to see, can not wait for a update in the growth in it. I know a short time can make a difference. I do catnip Nepete here and love it for the lavender color, but have never seen the Junior Walker one here. LOL the artichoke plant reminds me when we first moved in we had so many weed , till we got trees and grass and when I was planting my flowers bed the next year , my husband came over to me so proud that he sort of help me weed and he had to show me how big it got, I about fainted dead when he show me, it was my Artichoke plant, but I do have to say it did look like some of the weeds we had. So got another one and put a sign by it that it was not a weed do not pull it. Your veggie garden is looking good. Thanks You for the tour and Stay Safe till next time.

I forgot to add this, Rock’n Play’n the Blues salvia is my favourite salvia but I found I had to support the stems as they break off very easily in the wind. Bees and hummers go crazy for it! You may have to provide support with your winds. 🇨🇦

We are from Fresno, no way would I ever live in Redding! Rattlesnake country for sure! The garden is very well done and is stunning! We have since moved our of state to 80 acres in WI. Again you could not give me free land in CA. I WOULD never live there now!

Consider planting taller things down the bank a bit so that the tops contribute texture , color and shape while not blocking the view, and not walling in the heat.

Your mom has a great selection of plants, are they from a local nursery? Hard to get plants to tolerate the extreme heat here in Redding, and she doesn't have any shade, I'm trying to build up the shade in my yard, so I don't lose anymore plants.

It's risky for sure but we just want to get some color in! Lots of water plus we have a mild week this week so it was a good weekend to plant!
