FINALLY! I absolutely love that you are featuring a drought tolerant garden! wish you could have spent more time in this garden and naming the plant selections. With our water restrictions and no rainfall in the summer, lush cottage type gardens are just not possible.
Glad you liked the tour! Gardening in California definitely has its challenges, we will try to do more info on drought-tolerant plants, thanks for the feedback.
Hi DS - I thought I'd jump in here to try and offer a little help - First of all, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video tour of my garden! I've written a LOT about this garden on my blog, Harmony in the Garden (search under the 'before and after' category) and this week I'm hoping to write an in-depth blog about this particular part of the garden, the plants in it, and my design strategies. If interested, hop on over to Harmony in the Garden and take a peek (and if you have any questions, just leave them in my blog comments and I'll try and answer them!) :)
My conditions exactly down in Central California zone 9b. Thank you for featuring a Calfornia garden. I will check out your Harmony in the Garden blog.
Really loved the garden!😻 Great work with the landscape.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Also loved that story of inheritance of plants between granny, mother and her daughter 👍🏻💗
Beautiful! The oaks suffered 20 years of drought, beetle infestation then hit with SOD. If healthy and trimmed to relieve end weight, they will live well over 100 years. Northern CA has a lot of varying zones. I’m on the coast in cool zone 10a with deer and other creatures. This is a beautiful garden. So fun to hear she’s passing her gardening love to her daughter.❤
Wow, Rebecca's garden is absolutely stunning! I love how she has designed it to be drought-tolerant and filled with out-of-the-ordinary plants. It's amazing how she has utilized the slope and water availability to create such a beautiful space
I live on the east coast but I did live in Southern California for quite a few years. I wasn't much into gardening then as I am now so it was really nice seeing this beautiful garden. I could wander around aimlessly in Ms. Sweet's garden for hours. It looks very serene, tranquil and therapeutic. It was interesting to see how she works all the drought-tolerant and thirstier plants in each area. Thank you for sharing!
This was such a lovely video and appreciate the education about the drought tolerance of these plants. I had a hard time seeing the orientation of the beds to the house/driveway, front/backyard. Would have liked to see the landscape design.
Good idea. We will try to incorporate that into our videos. We do usually include an overhead plan in our magazine. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Very impressive garden. So green and beautiful! I know how much work goes into dry climate gardens that are also filled with animal wildlife. Truly amazing accomplishment.
Sherri and Rebecca so enjoyed this. Both of you are so down to earth, surpisingly not all gardeners are. I live in a 6b zone so zone 9-10 plants are much different than what I can have .BEAUTIFUL garden Rebecca. So pleased you have your mother and daughter close.
We are happy to be able to share gardens from all over the U.S., isn't that grevillea spectacular? Glad you enjoyed the interview, Sherri & Rebecca have been friends through plants for many years!
Beautiful garden. I've never thought of hydrangea as drought tolerant. Living in north Texas, I've tried penicle Hydrangeas with no luck. Maybe I was watering too much. Thanks for the tour. Please more tours from harder climates.
Hi Diane - you're right, hydrangeas are not drought tolerant. However mine are planted at the bottom of my sloping garden where the water table must be higher because they absolutely love it there, with minimal irrigation. On the other hand, I have a huge oakleaf hydrangea that IS drought tolerant. In fact, when I first planted it I forgot to hook it up to irrigation for THREE months - and it was absolutely fine with no wilting. During my blistering hot summer, no less! I was shocked, but to this day it's never wilted with just a little irrigation.
Isn't that the CUTEST plant? It's one of my favorites, called Billy Buttons (craspedia) and it's been blooming away for the past 3 months. My daughter also has it in her garden (also in zone 9) as well as my mother's garden - we all LOVE it. Sherri (who conducted the interview) mentioned she also has it so I know it does well in the midwest, too. It's hard to find out here, but when I do I try and buy all the plants I can to pass along to my family. Happy Hunting!
I live in the bay area of California and also share the frustration about the plant nurseries not carrying enough variety of plants. Here we are in wonderful 9b garden zone but still we need to order plants online.

Welcome aboard! Thank you. We have a few more Sacramento videos we will share in the coming months.
Thanks and I'm glad you signed up - I've written a LOT about plants that do well in our heat so I hope you find some inspiration there!

So nice of you. Thanks for visiting
Thank you for your kind words. I'm guessing you deal with similar challenges and can appreciate how difficult it can be!
Just lovely. Love the idea of using color/shape/texture to tie gardens together.
Such a smart technique to use in the garden, thanks for watching!
Thank you - it's a surefire way to help bring together a disjointed garden for us plant-lovers!
Thank you for sharing you lovely garden & beautiful plants. Greetings from Portugal!
Thank you and I'm so glad you enjoyed my garden!

Hi Judith, what a lovely comment - thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed touring my garden (and yes, I absolutely love having my family close by!)

Awesome garden. Very knowledgeable person - the use of Australian plants is so interesting. Does not look like California at all.
Rebecca knows her plants!
Thank you, Sunita, I really appreciate your kind words. So glad you enjoyed my garden!
This is BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Thank you! :)
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Beautiful garden! I love the grevillea. So wish I could grow this.
Isn't it such a cool plant & flower?
In conversation we support with uh hush, oh wow, and such. On videos it's a little distracting. Thanks for the tour. Lovely garden
Thanks for watching!
Superb!
Thanks for watching! Be sure to check out our other great Talk & Tour videos on our channel for more garden tours.
Thank you, Helene, I'm so glad you enjoyed my garden!
Could you tell us what the plant is with the yellow ball bloom at timestamp 12:24?
Craspedia globosa aka Billy balls or Drumstick. They grow quite easily from seed.
Isn't that the CUTEST plant? It's one of my favorites, called Billy Buttons (craspedia) and it's been blooming away for the past 3 months. Are you on a municipal water system or do you have a well for irrigating?
No well here, just the municipal water system.
Thanks for watching.
Echinacea pallida's easy from seed.
I'll give it a try (though I'll admit I have fairly bad luck growing things from seed - fingers crossed it works!)
Thanks for watching.
Plantaholic Midwest fellow gardener here 😂
Hi Patti - nice to meet you!
And condolences
I appreciate the thought, thank you. Glad you enjoyed the tour.
Thanks for watching.

Thanks for visiting. We hope the nurseries are watching.
