What I notice in every prosperous and well developed countries around the world is that, their culture is still rich, preserve, and being taking care of. They value what their history is and they care not only to protect and preserve it but also they teach their incoming generation about it. It is never lost or replaced by any modern world even if their country is already modernize. That's why if we only value and nourish and act what our real culture is, not k-pop, western, etc, I'm sure the next generation of our country will be the generation that might relive what being a true Filipino is.
Prof De Leon was my favorite professor in college. Was always looking forwars to attending his classes. So glad that he's now sharing his expertise on RUclips. ❤
This is the culture / tradition I've grown to and was raised. I noticed we are losing it slowly. Hope that we share this to our new generation so we preserve this wonderful culture. I'm proud being a Filipino.
Because of the age of technology, I noticed it too and the attitude of the Filipino is getting more aggressive especially when it comes to politics and money. Sana mag bago na ang mindset at bumalik na sa pagiging makaDiyos, makatao at makabayan.
@@sharingJesusChrist True. With technology booming and social media influencing the masses, we are slowly losing it. (And also the threat of a bill that enables the people to just separate a family, not just to escape abuse but also no fault in which you can separate your spouse in whatever reasons you want no matter how petty it is) I hope we hold on to this one good thing that holds the Filipinos together no matter how hard life is.
So true about the Filipino conjugations and how they are highly relational. There are things we find difficult to express in English because it diminishes the context when we translate our thoughts or emotions into other languages. It could not convey 100% what we wanted to say. I also find that we experience things as one. From elementary school to working adults to being seniors, we share many experiences in common. Tulad ng pagkanta ng Lupang Hinirang, pagsakay sa jeep or tricycle, pagkain ng taho or fishball, pagpunta sa simbahan o places of worship, pag-utang at pagpapautang sa mga kakilala, pagsasagap ng mga tsimis, pagkutya sa mga pulitiko at kung ano ano pa. Lahat yan familiar sa atin kase we are one nation with one spirit that moves us. It's really amazing and unique to be Filipinos.
Rizal said the same thing about Spanish as a language in the Philippines "Spanish will never be the general language of the country, the people will never talk it, because the conceptions of their brains and the feelings of their hearts cannot be expressed in that language-each people has its own tongue, as it has its own way of thinking! What are you going to do with Castilian, the few of you who will speak it? " Manuel L Quezon explained his reason why there had to be a national language: because neither Spanish nor English was spoken by everyone and we could not speak to each other when we should be able to do it being from the same nation SPEECH OF His EXCELLENCY MANUEL L. QUEZON PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES ON FILIPINO NATIONAL LANGUAGE DECEMBER 30, 1937 " Today there is not one language that is spoken and understood by all the Filipinos, nor even by a majority of them, It is unnecessary for me to demonstrate how essential it is for our people to have one language that can be used by all in their daily intercourse. Such language cannot be either English or Spanish, except perhaps, if ever, only after many generations and at a very great cost. We cannot wait that long."
‘ i agree we Filipinos are intelligent. Witness how we Filipinos fare when we go abroad. Not only do we perform well but sometimes we often excel. It is only in our own country that we are mediocre. And that's our great paradox. Not only are we intelligent but we are survivors too. Our history shows this. Mabuhay tayong mga pinoy.
It’s true. I met a Filipino guy in the US who works for Tesla. He told me that twice their computer system went down. The first time he fixed it. The second time they asked him for help. His position there was not a software engineer but since he was a boy he built his own computer from scratch. Anyway, Tesla has software engineers with Master degrees, but they couldn’t figure out the problem 😀The Filipino guy said they better pay him more since he’s performing work outside his job classification 😃

I'm an American who moved from Calif. USA to Cebu in 2010. Another trait of Filipinos they can be proud of is how friendly and welcoming they are. Also home and family are important here. In America women don't want to be housewives and mommies. Like many American guys I found a sweet traditional wife here. In welcoming remember just before WW2 when Manuel Quezon relaxed immigration policy to allow more than 1,000 Jews to escape Nazi Germany, he is truly one of the great men of history. After that the 'White Russians' (opposed Communism) were welcomed.

This is a brilliant video. Salamat po sa profesor. What he said rings true for me. I've lived in the US for 22 years. Kakaiba talaga tayong mga Pilipino. We like to bring people together. As soon as I learned Spanish and the concept of conjugations I questioned why there are so many conjugations in Tagalog and the relationality makes so much sense!
Spot on! I became even more a proud Filipino. Thank you, Professor! My wish is that all these very profound details on being a Filipino must be taught in elementary school.

Thank you so much Professor for bringing up the real and natural genius of the Filipinos. So that we can continue to take pride in our Filipinp culture, history and heritage. We should influence our lawmakers and educators to let our youths fully realize and appreciate their being Filipinos who should be proud to face the whole world with our heads heads high.
I think your comment has a valid point. The philosophy of "kapwa" can be there in your words. The philosophy of cooperating with others! Go professor. And more power to you both.
I had a chance to hear the professor talk 2 years ago in Sariaya, Quezon. He is so interesting. He knows what he is talking about. I believe him…I was so impressed.
One culture-related behavior I wish we could change as Filipinos is that attitude of very accepting of what should be unacceptable (that "pwede na yan" or "gawan na lang ng paraan" behavior). This is why we have substandard quality of life, flourishing number of undesired politicians and their dynasties, and most of all, that global perception that we are a third world country. On the contrary, compared to other countries, the country is rich with natural resources, strategically located geographically, and gifted with a lot of intelligent Filipinos. Imagine if all Filipinos can just use all those for one simple purpose - to be responsible to make better our country in order to enrich the lives of each other!
I agree to a certain degree. It will greatly help improve quality of life when we level up the standards and not just settle. On the other hand, that Trait can be useful. 'Gawan nalang ng paraan' is also the reason of our resourcefulness and ingenuity since we have limited options. It has been one of the reasons why Pinoys survives almost any situation. There just need to be a limit, a standard, or a breaking point maybe. If we stick with doing the 100% of what exactly is to be done all the time without assessment of the situation, then disappointments will be plenty. Stress, paranoia, sadness, will consume a person and hinders them to grow and be happy. Just reiterating what we already know. Life is differently hard for every person
@schmoopy It might be because we learned it from the Spanish people. Jose Rizal did try to debunk that. Being lazy wasn't our nature to begin with. It wasn't us but the Spaniards.
The problem with Filipinos seems to be that we like to settle for less than what we can achieve. It's part laziness, part self-doubt of abilities, and partly putting enjoyment (family and leisure) before anything else.
During my Elementary days we have a subject Sibika at Kultura and it was very fun learning all of it from grade 1 to 6. That's why I always love my fellow indigenous Filipino country men for they reminded me of our Origins.

"BLESSED is the NATION whose GOD is the Lord.." (Psa. 33:12)... Also : "The BLESSINGS of the Lord, it maketh RICH, and He added NO SORROW with it.." (Pv. 10:22)... ".. Dont FORGET the Lord your GOD, who gave you the POWER to 'acquire' WEALTH..." (Deuteronomy 8:18)...
The traditionally Buddhist nations of : South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong (City state)- around 50% of their nation become "evangelical christians"... Today, their nations were among the "economic giants" of south. east Asian region - rivaling Japan NOW, in its economic PROWESS!..😮
Damn. I was dumbfounded after hearing that we are divided by mountains, connected by seas. It really make sense. Thank you, sir for waking us up. ❤
❤❤❤
Let's bring this back. Teach it again to the next generation.
Ito dapat yung tinuturo sa bawat paaralan para mahubog mabuti ang ating mga kabataan. Salamat po sa gumawa nito. Sana makuha na po Prof ang kanyang pangarap pra sa mga Filipino. Mabuhay!
Professor de Leon’s explanation about the uniqueness of Filipino culture is indeed insightful. His emphasis on the centrality of community and relationships underscores a defining aspect of Filipino identity. Great video. Keep up the good job. Mabuhay. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Great wording!
protect this man at all cost! a true Filipino genius indeed!💯
He's looking into the good side of our culture. Articulate, Intelligent and Beautiful person.
I am grateful for telling us this story. As a filipino who now lives in a very divided political atmosphere in the Philippines, I needed this to be reminded that I am one with my community and my country ❤🎉 🇵🇭 Maraming Salamat
We’ve got this! Let’s leave a better Philippines for our children 🇵🇭❤️
❤❤❤❤❤
I like the thought that our Filipino identity can also be found in our diversity ❤
“All Filipinos are one. Kapwa Tao”.
This is such an informative video! Thank you for making this.
Thank GOD. youtube suggested me this. Ito yung gusto ko marinig ngayon despite sa mga nayayari ngayon sa ating bansa. I love this Man.Tkanks for educating us. Hope to hear more from you Sir.
This is Filipino traits, even foreigners discriminates and look down on us, we still keep doing positive things.
If you truly know the Filipino, you know corruption and Crab Mentality.
I am the mountain and the mountain is me. Born and raised in Balili a mountain in Negros Oriental. I am doing My post-graduate course in Supervision-Kaitiakitanga in Aotearoa. I’ll be delivering my presentation next week, I am excited I cant wait to bring my lived experiences, the story of my land my ancestors in my presentation and your channel has inspired me to tell my story.
All Filipinos are one, a spirit of cooperation and harmony❤🇵🇭
This video should be shared nationally, so we Filipinos, especially our youth dont forget what we are, who we are and what we can do as a nation. Long live the Filipinos!
I love the Filipino culture. I'm Chicana from San Jose, CA and growing up I had a lot of Filipino classmates and friends. Filipinos are the most kind and welcoming people you will ever meet. I grew up on lumpias and adobo. The Filipino homeboys and homegirls out here are tight!
Every Filipino must watch this 👏
"We are a new nation, but we are a very old people."
That struck a cord.
I've lived for a decade in Canada and despite being financially advance, their culture leaves a lot to be desired.
My wife is Filipina and she is so Amazing! She is the most humble person i have ever met, so loving and kind.
❤❤❤😘😘😘 thank you my amazing husband and very thankful to god Everyday to have you in my life 😘😘😘my amazing husband im so proud of you because your the greatest singer on earth🎤🎶, i love you deeply my amazing husband ❤️ 😘 ♥️ 💖 💕
Good comment. At times we are copy cats of the wrong virtues
Prof De Leon was my favorite professor in college. Was always looking forwars to attending his classes. So glad that he's now sharing his expertise on RUclips. ❤
What a great Filipino and professor! Mabuhay ka po.

Dati: Bayanihan
Ngayon: Crab Mentality😢
I love Filipinos! That's why I chose to live in the Philippines. The Philippines can be a light to the rest of the world.
Rizal said the same thing about Spanish as a language in the Philippines
"Spanish will never be the general language of the country, the people will never talk it, because the conceptions of their brains and the feelings of their hearts cannot be expressed in that language-each people has its own tongue, as it has its own way of thinking! What are you going to do with Castilian, the few of you who will speak it? "
Manuel L Quezon explained his reason why there had to be a national language: because neither Spanish nor English was spoken by everyone and we could not speak to each other when we should be able to do it being from the same nation
SPEECH OF His EXCELLENCY MANUEL L. QUEZON PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES
ON FILIPINO NATIONAL LANGUAGE DECEMBER 30, 1937
" Today there is not one language that is spoken and understood by all the Filipinos, nor even by a majority of them, It is unnecessary for me to demonstrate how essential it is for our people to have one language that can be used by all in their daily intercourse. Such language cannot be either English or Spanish, except perhaps, if ever, only after many generations and at a very great cost. We cannot wait that long."
I totally agree! Filipino culture is the greatest in world. It is rich, versatile and very relational. Pakikipag KAPWA is our trademark.❤
Superb sa ganda ang mga Pinoy n our culture first and formost our country.
Papurihan natin ang DIYOS NA MANLILIKHA.
God bless aming Inang bayang Pilipinas at sa lahat ng kapwa ko Filipino 🇵🇭🙏
Iba talaga ang sense of community and sense of belonging sa Pilipinas. Nakakamiss
Mabuhay ka Professor! I learned so much from your video today… I started traveling (worked and lived abroad) since I was 22 yrs old and I have always been discriminated for being a Filipino but I had always stood my ground and always proud to be a Filipino!!! 👏👏👏
Discriminated bc they feel intimidated
Filipinos are unique….well known globally. Fil nurses…#1.
Very clean also….we wash the bread before we eat. (Pandesal na sinasawsaw sa kape)😂😂😂
Professor de Leon is a Pilipinas Treasure... he should be financed for the Philippines - Sociological History of the Pilipinas. His Vision for the Pilipinas should be the Standard of the Philippines Educational System. 😊
I hope this will be a part in the educational system in the Philippi es starting at a young age.
THANK YOU PROFESSOR FOR EMPHASIZING HOW ARE WE AS A FILIPINO. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Praise be to our Lord Jesus Christ for creating a group of people worth living with and worth fighting for. God bless my beloved country the Philippines and all Filipinos here and abroad🙏❤️😊
Superb content... got me emotional... and this is one of the few contents in youtube that i can boldly say that i am very proud to be Filipino. Thank you prof and for this channel
Proud Filipino. Bayang Hinirang ❤
Salute to you Profeasor De Leon for your valuable contribution for us to underatand deeply who we are as Filipinos.
Contents like this are great to watch, share, and have a follow through.❤
Filipinos are blessed..i hope eveybody realizes that.
"We are a new nation but an old people". (Prof. de Leon)
What a treasure this is... Kapwa❤ wow! I will discover this treasure, and share it like Philippinos... What stunning beautiful precious people you are... A warm hello from South Africa... One day i hope to visit the Philippines... God bless the Philippines... ❤
I am more than proud as a .Filipino, because of the diverse culture that make us unique, more loving human beings, warm and frjendly.
Thank you Professor my ignorance is educated by your story. It’s great to hear millions more new words and stories that I never heard from a true Filipino hearted Professor, again thank you so much for this genius story.
This is a brilliant video. Salamat po sa profesor. What he said rings true for me. I've lived in the US for 22 years. Kakaiba talaga tayong mga Pilipino. We like to bring people together. One of my jobs was to be a festival coordinator for an elementary/junior high school. Both my kids attended the school. I also volunteered a lot. My innate belief is that the health of my children is not separate from the health of the community.
Our homeschool is happily subscribed to this channel! Thank you for your life's work Prof. De Leon. My kids and I are waking up to how blessed we are to be Filipino.
Thank you very much Sir! I proud to be Filipino, and prouder still after listening to you. Mabuhay kayo, at mabuhay ang acting multiracial.
As soon as I learned Spanish and the concept of conjugations I questioned why there are so many conjugations in Tagalog and the relationality makes so much sense!
Sana ito ang gawing book para sa mga kabataan❤❤❤
Wow! Ang ganda ng sinabi ni Prof. De Leon. God bless you and your family always po...
SHARE TO EVERY Filipinos ...very informative on how and where we came from❤
Please help us spread the word… ask family and friends to subscribe and follow. 😊
Spot on! I became even more a proud Filipino. Thank you, Professor! My wish is that all these very profound details on being a Filipino must be taught in elementary school.
D pa siguro huli na isali ang mga to sa history na xang ituturo sa mga bata...through this true nation well be build by knowing deeply our culture and practice it...ngaun kc ala na yang kapwa kapwa lahat na lang nag mamataasan lalo na sa pulitika its more about power..
Proud to be Pinoy...nagmamahal sa kapwa😊❤
I just realized how much Philippines i like Africa in terms of the many cultures/tribes. Only difference is africa is a continent with countries, Philippines is a country with islands.😊
I always feel Filipino are humble and under rate their language and culture.
I am not a Filipino, but my heart is a Filipino heart. The Filipinos are the kindest, welcoming, most happiest and talented people in the world. A great example to the rest of the human race.God Bless the Philippines .

HA-LA KA!(Tagalog)
Halimbawa: “HALA KA! I-su-sum-bong kita sa Nanay mo hindi mo sinunod(to behave) ang kanyang tagubilin sa’iyo.”📚✍️✍️✍️✅👀
Mabuhay! This professor knows his roots and he helped me understand mine.
I can listen to Prof. De Leon all day. Thank you for sharing and having him as your guest.
True. We might be kind and accepting people, but we are too lazy, mediocre to be precise.
Life is differently hard for every person
also crab mentality ?? need to stop that ..
We studied this in one of our subjects during college - Filipino Psychology. ❤️
This kind of video need to be viral on the internet and deserves Millions of views online...Kudos to Professor for explaining very well and makes you realize how to be proud of your own culture and identity and of course your country! Mabuhay ka Professor!

Finally!!!!! A Filipino history and culture explained well, and produced excellently. Dapat suportahan ganitong mga channels and videos. Grateful i get to live in this era na may Filipino video na high quality and well explained. 👏👏👏
Filipinos' and the language 'tagalog' can conquer the world with enough support, informative marketing may widen the perspective to what we truely are and destroy such stigma perceived in every continent and proved our culture to be beautiful.
When I was in my teen age I wrote an essay about filipino language and its probability to conquer the world in different aspects and I still believe and know it will happen.
Do you still have the essay?🙂
I am so happy to come across your video. Maraming salamat po. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Makes perfect sense! Excellent exposition by Prof. De Leon!
