Imperial ships going between star systems travel through the Warp, and the Warp is the domain of the Chaos Gods. If he had gotten on a ship, he probably would have ended up in the belly of the beast even faster.
As far as "willfully destroying the massive psychic wards around the imperial palace," you forget that immediately prior to him projecting himself into the palace, he had projected himself into Horus' mind to try to stop him from falling to Chaos, and in so doing he had encountered identical psychic wards put in place to try to prevent his interference. It was perfectly logical to assume that the second set of barriers had been erected for the same purpose.

@@samhobbs9116 I thought that the point of Daemon Primarchs/Princes is that, because they start as physical beings, they can operate in realspace unless banished. They just tend to live on worlds steeped in the warp because they have more power and freedom there.
Given Lorgar’s role as The Heirophant (see Tarot symbolism) of Chaos Undivided, I would also like to see him more active. I would prefer that he act as a counselor to Abaddon. Helping Abaddon figure out what he really wants to do and be, instead of just following his father’s vision of tearing down the Imperium. Lorgar, as a character, should help other characters be better characters. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone at GW has enough understanding and respect for the role of religious figures to know how to use Lorgar and the Wordbearers effectively.

You are given the power of a near-god, able to reshape reality around you and interact directly with the warp. Then you're introduced to your sons, who are mutating and dying en masse. Your even more godlike father doesn't offer to help you cure them, just dumps them in your lap and says "Best of luck, champ! I have total faith in you!" And even though you, more than any of your brothers, ought to be explicitly told "oh by the by, there are gods of Chaos in the warp who double-deal and ruin people's lives" he doesn't explicitly tell you that. Despite you being painfully naive, idealistic and way out of your depth. And he'd know that because he supposedly travelled the warp with you and knew you for years before even meeting you in person. The Emperor did everything wrong as a father and expected his son not to similarly screw up.

Imagine: powerful Chosen of Tzeentch always at war (with the Lord of Change Tchzen of the Silver Claw at their side)!
Who with their mighty fire serve the God of Magic in the pure way, with victory in battle.
So do his Sorcerers, who teach battle to the zealous Warriors of the Architect of Fate.
With war they bring eternal change for Tzeentch!
Tzeentch must look like Norsca, and there are several Champions who prove it: Tchar'zanek, Aekold Helbrass, Albodi, Melekh the Changer.
"My name? Long ago such worthless details fell from memory. I know only the lust for glorious battle -- for blood, for victory! I seek only the Eye of Tzeentch -- his favour, his grace, his Dark Gifts -- that through them, I may be remade -- reborn! Why do we raid your lands? Why do we burn your homes? Why do we flay your flesh? To serve the Lord of Change and his magnificent designs."
Do you know what the Screamers of Tzeentch must look like?
Long tail but raven wings and beak, without claws however because being creatures of change they must always fly and never stop.
And since purple, pink, and gold (Slaanesh) are aspects that simply don't go well with Tzeentch, then blue, azure, and silver are his only true aspects.
    💙🔵
I like to imagine (even before the Heresy) Magnus and the Thousand Sons with the symbol of the Egyptian Raven (let's eliminate the symbol of the Egyptian Scarab, it is an insult to Tzeentch).

I personally think Magnus is the only one that could break free from chaos by himself and revert back to a more mortal form, IF he were to get his noble shard back as it would balance him out mentally and return closer to what he once was. Or if bitch snitch tzeentch were to throw him into the well of time, or whatever he chucked Kairos into that gave Kairos that second head lol, as I think Magnus could pull some 'snatch my soul shards in time before they disappear' and come out to beat the fuck out of the hentai god of lies and birds 😂😂😂

Not the greatest, I don't think. Magnus had a backup in Lorgar, where as Lorgar was more concerned with faith than truth, both legions were incredibly potent psychically, as evidenced by the Word Bearers being concerned with witchcraft and sorcery, with particular focus on daemonology after the fall.
I think a loyalist Lorgar could have sat the throne as well.
And while Magnus got a raw deal, top down, Greatness is defined by how you deal with the hand you draw. Not by how much potential you have.
The greatest Primarch is beyond any shadow of a doubt, Sanguinius. He wasn't as perfect as he seemed. But he saw his death coming, saw its brutal execution, and went to face it anyway, daring to hope against certainty that he would succeed against fate.

Magnus would have been ba better story if he didn't turn to chaos, but was unable to return to the emperor without his legion, he becomes a massive powerful neutral entity for a time, slowly driving himself insane as he tries and falls to reverse the corruption of his son's so he can return to the emperor.
His psychic abilities about to feel the emperor all around him, but they can no longer communicate, the emperor had gone silent.
Over the next 10k years he tried and falls at his own webway project, he slowly falls to chaos in his own arrogant ability to out outsmart the chaos gods, but his insanity just continues to mount with more paranoia.
His only calming is staring into the astronomicon , the home he yerns for, and it's that light that is his prison, his calm turns to rage. For being unable to fix what he's broken

The Russ one being one of them

Magnus definitely fucked up, he could of easily hopped on a flight to Terra instead of sacrificing humans(willfully but still human sacrifice) and making deals with strange oddly helpful warp entities when his way was initially and rightly blocked. But instead of waking up and hopping on his 15km long warship with the most talented navigators in the universe and spend a week or a day or 2 getting to terra. Instead he makes a deal with the devil to burst in like the koolaid man and doom all humanity forever. Magnus made the worst decision every chance he had to make a decision. Malcadore was right, Magnus should’ve known better and when confronted he hid and pouted and watched his world needlessly burn only to sell the survivors to Zeetch to run away.

Magnus' only crime was thinking he knew better than the Emperor. He never wanted any of this. Probably the most tragic of all traitor primarchs aside from Angron, who never had a chance.

Magnus is easily the most Nerfed Primarch. He is second only to the emperor with his psyker ability. Meaning stronger than malcador which means he could have "unmade" Horus or any other Primarch for that matter.

Unfortunately I believe Tzeentch always had his sights on Magnus. Knowing the Emperor wanted to keep the truth about chaos secret, Tzeentch probably subtly manipulated everything he could in Magnus' life to orchestrate the perfect set of circumstances in which one of the most loyal sons of the imperium would not join chaos, but specifically would fall directly under his influence against the Emperor

What I don't get is why magnus didn't just go turn himself in to Russ alone. He knew he was there for blood either way. At least that way the planet might have been saved.
He might even have been able to explain Horus' treachery.

You know, for obvious choices of Traitors and Loyalists. You could easily swap the Khan and Magnus and it would make sense. If that would have happened Horus probably would have been defeated. All Russ would have had to do was... not follow Horus' orders.

I think of all the traitor Primarchs Magnus is the best option for redemption, he is truly the one with the power to change the fate of the Imperium.
Don't get me wrong im not saying Guilliman and the Lion won't be able to change the Imperium but not to the same degree as to what Magnus could achieve, especially if he was to have thier help

That he was set in so high regards by all his brothers.....and lets face it, even the gods of chaos wanted him not horus or magnus to lead there forces against the emperor.
