Wasteful days can never be recovered… but wasteful days can also be one of life’s greatest indulgences. The trick is to find the balance between wasteful days and productive days. I think having a simple morning routine really helps me to be productive. I also know that if I lose an hour in the morning, I will chase it all day long. Having a morning routine with coffee ☕ sets me up for success. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us, Immy. I always learn a lot from you. Ⓜary💕🌲
In a very toxic "productivity' focused enviroment, this video is so helpfull, down to earth and relatable. We can all get on board on figuring out what works for us. As long as we do some ground work and we know whom we are and what we need.... Tricky one, for sure.
I've been working hard at making my mornings less lazy. I'm currently between jobs and It was so easy for me to doom scroll for hours. But lately I've been getting up, putting some sort of clothing on and eating breakfast and reading on my front porch. I love it. It's such a great way of starting my day with fresh air and quiet. Am I perfect, no!!! Do I still watch some IG reels every morning? Yes! But I put it down so much sooner and I genuinely want to go be outside.
I used to be so against having a routine I was afraid it would make me feel trapped but I am slowly creating a routine that feels right for me and it really helps
My biggest excellent mental health and brilliant morning productivity boost is always cleaning the kitchen before bed. I come into the kitchen in the morning, and it's all lovely and tidy, and the day starts well. It makes me laugh how many routines we have and how they evolve and change. Our priorities change, and the river bends and turns just like life 🙏 Love all your ideas and content ✨️ 💕
My best days start with spending time in prayer, bible reading, and writing. It helps me recenter myself and realize that I'm not the center of the universe, but that God is my creator and everything I have in life is a gift. Really helps humble me esp when I encounter annyoing tasks (or people). In terms of a daily schedule, I've been trying to be more INTUITIVE with everything, whether its eating, working out, or sleep. I've given up on trying to have 3 timed meals per day and instead check in with my body and what it needs. With workouts, sometimes I pounce out of bed in the morning ready for a 10K, and others I'm sluggish and need a evening yin yoga. Also has a lot to do with my period cycle and weather. Thanks for your awesome content Imogen!
Okay Immy, you’ve influenced me.. I’m trying this too! My job requires extremely flexible hours, a constantly changing schedule and long hours where a 12 hour work day is pretty typical. And over the last year I have hit some pretty low lows since taking this job on and I feel a complete lack on control over my life and energy levels. So my current list on what gives me energy/what I tend to naturally lean towards doing in the AM: -slow cup of coffee and water -waking up early, around 6am -complete a couple quick chores like changing the dishes in dishwasher, picking up clutter in the living room, and folding laundry from the drying rack -having some time to process the day before and reflect Things that take away my energy in the AM/don’t make me feel good: -drinking more than 1 cup of coffee through the day -waking up late -opening RUclips, social media, work emails I’ll start with these and see how my mornings days shape up!
I was always on the look for THE Routines. And being hard on myself, when they didn't work out in the long run. But a few months ago, I gave up this idea of the perfect thing that lasts forever. This is so freeing! I still love to create new routines and follow them for a few weeks. And then wander off and try something new - or sometimes nothing and go with the flow :) I'm just not the person for doing the same things forever, and thats ok now. The one thing though is waking up early. Im so grumpy if I sleep in 🤣 I can totally relate to this "putting the day up for success with the things I do in the morning" Sending love and good energy!
Things I've been focusing on in my morning routine: no phone fir at least half an hour, caffeine free drinks for the first hour after getting up (coffee becomes more of a treat this way too), yoga to wake up my body and centre my mind (sometimes half an hour, sometimes only 15 min, it depends on how my body is feeling that morning), standing outside for a minute or two to get some natural light in. All of those make me feel more calm and happier. I also struggle with chronic pain and having a routine helps me feel more grounded on bad days.
Love to see your garden and life flourishing in 🇺🇸 I wonder if coffee could become a new routine, as in not having it first thing in the morning. I love a coffee, don't get me wrong, but messing with your hormones first thing could be a game changer. (It's addictive, just like any other drug, after all) My biggest change and heartfelt routine is tidying the kitchen before bed. I'll put on some music and beaver away for 30 minutes before bed, and in the morning, it's such a joy to just appreciate the light coming in through the window and a clean slate to start the day. Love your videos. They're always so thought-provoking and inspiring 🌸🫶🌸
I am currently reading “All the Light We Cannot See” (by Anthony Doerr) and WoW… what a great book!! I will have to check out his new book that you have mentioned. Speaking of books, I would love to hear more summer book recommendations from you, Immy. So much of what I have read and enjoyed throughout the past few years were books that you spoke highly of. PS - Reading for 30 minutes per day is defo in my Habit Tracker!! I learned this from you!! Thanks for this, Ⓜary💕📚
I looked forward to watching this series simply because I love your content and I wanted to see you enjoy your life to the fullest! But I completely discounted the SEVERELY OUTLANDISH idea of it inspiring ME to make some changes in my own life, because I genuinely thought to myself "I have two small children (2 and 4YO) to get out the door *by myself* before work. This isn't a chapter in my life where a slow morning is available to me." But here I say, "poo poo to that!" Lol I'm totally going to take this weekend as an opportunity to get up early, sip my coffee (instead of chugging it between meltdowns), and journal/read my tarot cards. That spirituality is so valuable to me, and I am actually able to fit it in. Thank you for inspiring me Immy!!

I'm loving these videos, Immy! You're one of the few youtubers who's videos I never skip through and look forward to watching them with my tea. I desperately need a routine in my life, as I've recently become unemployed and my days have become blurs. I've been waking up around 10 or 11 and noticed that it immediately puts a bad start to my day. And I need to keep my phone in the bedroom after I wake up because if I take my phone with me I'll spend 20 minutes scrolling in the bathroom between brushing my teeth and skincare, then I'll take it to the kitchen and scroll while I wait for the kettle to boil. I just hate how my little caveman brain craves the stimulation haha. I've also found that I have to get out of the house at least once a day for my mental health, which I have to force myself to do otherwise I just feel depressed and icky. I'd love to hear more about your relationship with the gym! I've been going rather inconsistently this past year and find it so hard to actually make myself go there and while I'm there I just feel anxious the whole time, even though I genuinely love lifting finding the courage to do it is daunting. Also, I'm so sorry your land lord said no to a dog! Maybe once you've lived there longer they'll change their mind. Thank you for the inspiration to get my shit together. My partner and I just moved into our first renter home and are trying to save money while also really wanting to get a dog and it's been comforting watching someone who's in the same stage of life and trying to figure things out :)
I really appreciate you sharing this journey because I've had some major life upsets lately and it's totally ruined my routine and I'm struggling with so many things because of it. You've inspired me to adjust my routine and create one that supports me right now.
I love your sit-down chats with a little b-roll! And, let me just highlight the squeaking sound made while you shined those kitchen counter tops! LOL Well done! 💚💚💚💚
Having a set routine felt draining because I was wasting a lot of energy trying to follow a routine that wasn't coming to me organically. I'm trying to do a 1 month challenge where I wake up early every single day, to get my body used to it. Thank you for the video. Relatable as always and super calming for some reason 😄
I so relate to the fact that the time you wake up affects the whole day. I‘ve been struggling with routines so much and you talking about this made me realise that I am the same, so my new starting point is to get up at the same time(ish) every morning to lay that groundwork to build a routine on! Your videos are always so insightful and motivating❤
Loving these videos! Really looking forward to seeing more videos in this series about your routines. I also need to create some routines to help support a happier and healthier lifestyle because what I'm doing now just isn't working for me, so loving that this series is happening now! Can't wait to see more!
I love these kinds of videos and I savour them every time! Last month I was able to exercise almost every day just by switching from evening hours to hours before breakfast (which is usually around 10-11). I find that I had no anchor to attach the exercise to in the evening hours and there were more distractions, including being tired and wanting to skip it altogether. This month I am focusing on finishing eating at least 3hrs before bed and on two meals a day. So my breakfast follows after workout (11-12) and then my lunch/dinner around (6-7). Let's see how it goes :)
Hi Immi, what you said about waking up earlier as a trigger for all the following tasks/activities is just the same here! I just thought about it yesterday. I also noticed that when I wake up too late I am not in the mood to do things that I had planned to do. For me it’s definitely working to get up early! Love your attitude and always looking forward to your videos)) hugs from Germany
This is so insightful! 💚 I'm a fan of Andrew Huberman, and/but a perfectionist, so creating a morning routine that would suit ME, instead of blindly following the "sunlight exposure + no coffee + exercise + etc. etc." drill or trying other sequences/things "that big people suggest" (as you beautifully put it 🙃) is not easy for me. Trial and error, error and trial, error, error... 😉 I have a well established evening routine though. Early dinner, and no snacking afterwards (trying my best here...). Internet shuts off at roughly one hour before bed (both on my laptop and phone) and that allows me (forces me 😅) to read or clean up a bit or do nothing... I go to sleep regularly at the same time - proper SLEEP is non-negotiable for me now. 💫
Having to work with my spoons makes a big difference in my routine. For me it's like setting a focus: Do I need to get some (freelance) work done or is it possible to nurish myself in a deeper way, so whenever I try something like a workout or stretching first day in the morning, if there is an interruption (having to organize things with flatmates, a very loud start of the day, social media) it's easy to miss focus for the whole day. So prioritization and setting hard boundaries in like the first three hours of a day is really important for me and super difficult 😅 I guess it's a learning process; the idea of doing a 30 minutes yoga session, prepaire a healthy breakfest, meditate and read some pages is wonderful in my mind but not working for me getting my work started, often not even in its micro habit form (having some coffee works for me or having like a 5 minutes meditation). Kind of a sad recognition to need to chose between a good amount of selfcare and work for this very vulnerable time period but an honest realization that can help not going to be harsh on your own for not being able to do an instagramable routine.
Great video, I love your approach to finding your routine! I have to adjust mine frequently with the changes of the rhythm of life... So it's brilliant to know what you need or like - or don't like!
This could not have come at a better time, I'm too struggling to set a morning routine. One thing Im sure is that I want to start early and also a little bit slow. When is the time you cook? Right now it's very very hot here and so I would love to finish all my cooking before bath but it's just taking too much time. Thanks Immy for sharing your cast iron cleaning, do you wash it every time u cook in it or when it gets really greasy?
Great video, and I really like your insight on how a routine can be flexible! I noticed that these things tend to be about your individual routine or goals, and I was wondering if this affects your partner or if their routines affect the options for your routine. (You mentioned he is waking up early, so that's one thing). I noticed in my own life that if my partner suddenly decides to change his routine, than this affects mine too, so we have to decide these things sort of together.
I simply cannot workout in the evening. The only movement I can can muster is a gentle yoga or a walk to my community garden box (3 blocks away) to water it. But such is life in healthcare… it forced me to become a morning person.
Love this series! And as always, your filming and editing are on point. Quick question: in morning 3, what is that sound in the background? It's not annoying or anything but it made me curious. Love from Argentina
I love your videos! I desperately need to build some sort of routine that I can stick to regardless of if I am at work or not, to help recover from my 5am starts I have sometimes. Immy, I was wondering what time you try to go to bed to read? Too often I'm going to bed when I'm absolutely knackered!!!!!
Personally, I chug 8-16 oz water first thing in the a.m. before I even have a bowel movement ... I feel like it jump starts All My body ststemz & gets My LifeForce aflowin! I personally swirl My drinking water every drink I pour - counter clockwize for clearing ( which iz My go-to) & clockwize for charging. It may seem woo-woo but it feelz good for Me.. Almost like the water just doezn't slip down My throat az eazily if I just glug pour it into the cup & sip... Something weird about the flow of the water spiraling just feelz like it smoothz it & My body like, sucks it in, instead of feeling like Im forcing it down. May be fun to play with? (Also singing to the water, even in one simple frequency tone or pretty melody feelz to improve the harmony of the relation between It & My Body.
Think about how water glugz out of a jug ... But if You swirl it, it vortexez & swooshez out in a steady stream.. Maybe th moleculez like, get in a smoothed out order or something? Ionz or something? I duno - may All be belief/placebo - def fun to play w... I think I been swirling My water for like 10 yearz now : ) Aloha
I am working on my evening routines, not winning. With a small child I am left to do kitchen cleaning after I put him to sleep and I just cant, energy is not there. When I go to bed right after the chores I sleep way worse than on the other days. So sorry to hear your landlord did not allow you getting a dog. It somehow feels absurd. You don't need (i hope, US is crazy) his permission to get a child. Babies are louder and in a way more destructive than animals.
Perhaps you are a bit isolated since all that energy you put into your big move and getting married now has no where to go. You are subconsciously looking for your next big step out into the world. ❤
Music or an audio book is a great motivator for me when cleaning my condo…TBH it’s a must, makes the job bearable and I feel like it get more done. ✌️☺️🧺🧼

Thank you so much for sharing! My husband is the exact same - its like he can't sleep if the kitchen is untidy.
Thank you for sharing your experience 😊It's so important to live a happy and mindful life 🌿 Wish everyone to feel each moment 💜
I’d love to see a daily/weekly gardening routine. Always enjoy your content!
your videos are some of my favorite on RUclips. the production quality is so good and you just have such a lovely energy. I always look forward to it.
My best days start with spending time in prayer, bible reading, and writing. It helps me recenter myself and realize that I'm not the center of the universe, but that God is my creator and everything I have in life is a gift.
So my current list on what gives me energy/what I tend to naturally lean towards doing in the AM:
-slow cup of coffee and water
-waking up early, around 6am
-complete a couple quick chores like changing the dishes in dishwasher, picking up clutter in the living room, and folding laundry from the drying rack
-having some time to process the day before and reflect
Things that take away my energy in the AM/don’t make me feel good:
-drinking more than 1 cup of coffee through the day
-waking up late
-opening RUclips, social media, work emails
I’ll start with these and see how my mornings days shape up!

It is however true that waking up early sets the tone for the rest of the day. It gives a better sense of the use of time.

Last month I was able to exercise almost every day just by switching from evening hours to hours before breakfast (which is usually around 10-11). I find that I had no anchor to attach the exercise to in the evening hours and there were more distractions, including being tired and wanting to skip it altogether. Now I do habit stacking: After I have my morning devotion (which is prayer and Bible study) I will workout for at least 30 min (which I do in front of my laptop using Body Fit By Amy videos) and have no problem doing it every morning (which a few exceptions).

These habit-forming videos are so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing!
I have a well established evening routine though. 💫
Thank you for taking us along on your journey.
So prioritization and setting hard boundaries in like the first three hours of a day is really important for me and super difficult 😅

Love this series, inspiring me to be more productive! What is the big red (?) planner/journal you are using?
I know what u mean about beingup late but there is something about being up in the middle of the night its so nice and quiet!
I used to think I had to exercise in the morning, but I find taking a longer midday break to exercise is best for my body and helps break up the day.
This could not have come at a better time, I'm too struggling to set a morning routine. One thing Im sure is that I want to start early and also a little bit slow. When is the time you cook? Love this series! And as always, your filming and editing are on point. Quick question: in morning 3, what is that sound in the background? It's not annoying or anything but it made me curious. Love from Argentina
I love your videos! I desperately need to build some sort of routine that I can stick to regardless of if I am at work or not, to help recover from my 5am starts I have sometimes.
Immy, I was wondering what time you try to go to bed to read? Too often I'm going to bed when I'm absolutely knackered!!!!!
Love this series!
I’m loving this series!!
what is your coffee maker? i like it! i use aeropress which is great too
I heard a walk in the morning before you even eat anything is actually supposed to be really good for you. Maybe I might give morning walks a go too.
Love this!
this is literally my dream but I need my 9-5 job 😢
Hi Immy we are wishing you the best trying to figure out what the best routine is for you.❤
😊
Personally, I chug 8-16 oz water first thing in the a.m. before I even have a bowel movement
...
I think I been swirling My water for like 10 yearz now
: )
Aloha
For me, going to the gym in the morning doesn't work; I am tired the whole day. Also, having a lavish breakfast doesn't help either; I prefer to fast
Very nice video 🏕️😍
One of the main reasons I watch morning routines is to see what people are eating and u didn’t show that once so for me this is not a morning routine
