Everyone has different tastes in sound.
However, the sound of the bass has to be a sound that plays a role and does its job.
In cooking, it is the amount of salt. (This is just my opinion.)
It is a difficult thing to do.
The sound of the bass is also difficult.
It is easy to make it the way I like it. I just have to adjust and balance the Bass to my liking.
After building a bass that looked like a scaled-down version of a double bass, I thought that if I made it smaller, it might be able to replace the double bass, but I concluded that it would sound different racially.
That is fine. If you like that sound and want to use it.
But I want to make an instrument that can create a genre of music.
which is one of my goals.
But it doesn't get me any closer to my goal of creating an instrument that can create a genre of music.
    I love inventing.
I love inventions. What is an instrument that has been invented recently and has become popular?
For example, the otamatone. The way it is played, its tone, its appearance, it is full of originality, and yet it is played by so many people, which is a tremendous feat.
Another is VOCALOID software such as Hatsune Miku.
Performing vocals on a PC? It is unimaginable how much the range of DTM expression has expanded just by being able to play vocals on a PC.
I may be biased, but for me, VOCALOID is a musical instrument.
It is an instrument that expresses the composer's thoughts through the sound of a song.
Compared to them, the instruments I have created have not a shred of originality.
The way it is played, the sound it produces, its size, its shape. It may be unique, but it is not an instrument that can build a history of music.
However, as I mentioned above, the bass has a job to do, a role to play.
If you put too much originality into it, no one will accept it.
    That is the difficult part.
I will not write about the structure and mechanism.
Many people told me that they could not understand it even if they actually saw the actual instrument. So it is impossible for me to explain it in writing.
Please watch the video to understand the structure or buy one to see for yourself.
However, if you want to see it in person and play it.
If you are willing to pay for my transportation and other expenses, I will bring it to you wherever I can.

As a luthier and guitarist I’ve seen a lot of builds in my time but this is something else. This has more akin to engineering than traditional builds. It’s absolutely brilliant. It’s modular design means you could customise it in so many different ways. Amazing.

You Said it "engineering" but as a mechanic that works on planes this guy does not have an engineering degree! He's too smart! Lol. No rework or redesign needed and it looks easy to work on! Lol 😆.

Amazing build! The addition of a piezo under the body end of the fingerboard could enhance an upright tone. I accidentally discovered the benefit of placing a mic in front of a DI'd electric bass to blend in some string and finger noise.

Amazing idea for the pickup. Even though we can't hear how it sounds perfectly in the video, it sounds pretty damn good. Does the carbon fibre plate influence the sound a lot? In that case you could maybe have different back plates to change between to get different tones out of the instrument. The instrument as a whole reminds me a bit of the old Ampeg AEB/AUB-1 scroll basses, but this one sounds so much better.

Cool bass man. Would you ever make a headless bass with multiscale frets?

I think if your porpoise it’s to invent an instrument that would be able to create a new genre, there is two factors that you’re not achieving. First, think an instrument that have an special mechanics. With mechanics I refer to the parts that create the sound in a physical way. Therefore the way of playing would be carachteristic to that instrument making it a new thing. I don’t see that turning around of a design from 1951 would be the way to fulfill the porpoise of being the reason of a new musical genre.
Second and not less difficult, it’s once you have that new instrument, be connected to a powerful young local network of musicians with projection and wait that they are interested in your instrument.
With your abilities and dexterity I don’t doubt that you are able to do. Just research and try to step out of the common places.
There is many places to start. Check the work of Bernard Baschet, the modified guitar of Fred Frith or the one of Hans Reichel, the Vietnamese folk instruments…

He was a very interesting artist.
I will look into this in more detail.
I still don't believe that the instruments I make as much as I do can make new music.
There are many things I don't understand.
I think one way is to make large instruments like Bernard Bachet, which are like works of art.
(Sorry if there is a difference in perception)
      I am just starting out.

I'm not sure if I understand the way the pickup works, because I'm only going off of visual cues, but is it inducing a current based on the movement of the bridge as a whole relative to a fixed point below it?
I'm guessing that you'd have a magnet on the bottom face of the bridge, with the coils affixed to the backplate? Then the up and down movement from the strings would be transferred through the bridge, a bit like a Dobro/resonator guitar, emulating the way a soundboard would react?
I might be completely wrong, but if that's what you're doing it's something I've never seen done before and it brings about some interesting possibilities.

      ピックアップはピエゾを使っています。
      弦の張力の差をなくすためにブランコの様にスイングするブリッジを作りました。
      このベースの場合はそのブリッジの下に浮動式のカーボン板を振動板にしてピエゾを鳴らしています。
