Making a 5 String Padouk-Wenge-Oak Bass

- It has been a while since I posted something other than the house project I'm on right now so here is a bass to break it up a little bit.. :D We made this one for a customer, he only insisted on five strings and everything else was up to us. This one is made from wenge, oak, padouk, ebony and maple. Quite a lot of different species but they went together just fine. The body is made from oak and wenge in shape of our spring bass model while the head was custom. Neck is made from padouk and maple strips while the fretboard is made from hard ebony with two veneer layers of maple and wenge. We went for a clean look so no engravings and markings on the fingerboard this time, just a Lignum logo laser burned on to the body. Back electronics and battery covers are also made from wenge wood. harware we used for this build is EMG JX set, Schaller BM Light machine heads, Schaller 3D-5 bridge, Schaller S-locks, Daddario EXL 165-5 strings.
I hope you like this this project! Please ask any question in the comments and as always, subscribe for more!:D

Perfect choice of music. Somehow, even with all that "noise" from the tools, I find this so relaxing I almost fell asleep haaha. Awesome guys, as always
Thank you very much! I'm sure guys that made the music will be happy reading this!:)
@@lignumchannel Where we can find this music?
As a bass player and a woodworking/CNC/Laser/3Dprinting hobbyist, this was satisfying AF
all techniques from woodworking to manual labor to the highest level of CNC technique for making guitars in one word fantastic what a craftsmanship 👍👍👍
Whenever you do a new guitar build I say to myself, "This is the best one yet!" Every time.
Simply stunning, I'll never get tired of your guitar projects!
Thank you so much! We are curently working on three more, one of them will be out of this world..😉
Excellent! Your creative use of various wood species makes beautifully unique instruments.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it Scott! :)
I love the extension and of the fingerboard onto the headstock. That’s a great idea I’m going to copy!
Сколько же вложено души и труда и времени... Красавцы просто!
Groovy! 😀 Aw man, what a stunning looking bass! Really loving that one, and the black hardware really finished it off well. Superb!
Glad you like it Matt! Thank you😁
There is something utterly fascinating about lamination and CNC. Can't resist it.
Glad you like it Nicole! :)
What a perfect combination of CNC and old school handwork, best of both worlds!
Always love these videos... this is my favorite bass you all have built uet
What a beautiful work of art. Sounds great. Awesome job and video!
Errado. Aqui não existe arte. Cadê o trabalho do luthier? Só tem máquina. Lamentável.
Your instrument builds never disappoint. So cool.
Thank you Chris!
This might be my favourite you’ve made! So beautiful!
Thank you so much Ellie!😀 I hope the next one will be even better!
Beautiful work by machines with just a little help from the people.
Really nice! I’ve worked quite a bit with Wenge and Padouk…. I’m sure by now you know the splinters from Wenge are brutal! I’ve built quite a few guitars I never had the luxury of a CNC machine always had to do everything with router jigs and lots of templates!
Another great project my friend. Love the use of the Wenge.
Thank you John!
Beautiful, and thanks for the beauty shots this time ;)
Thank you very much for watching Blake! Glad you like it!
Allways so beautifull, allways a pleasure to watch!!
Thank you so much Karl 😊
Beatiful instrument. The transition around 2:45 is fascinating and satisfying, and what a great music choice to go along with the build. I was tempted to slow it down. :) Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much! When I received the music I knew it will go great with this video! Glad you like it!
Another beautiful bass. I love it! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watchung Seth!
Absolutely amazing, definitely moves a wood cnc up my list of dream tools
Un proyecto increíble, felicidades, saludos desde Chile! 👏🏼🇨🇱
Absolutely stunning! Love it!
Thank you Cormac! :)
This bass is a work of art 💯
Thank you very much Hamprey! :)
Congrats to the CNC router, nice job machine!
That's not a CNC router, that's a freaking robotic arm! So much contrast with those other almost-manual machines, lol. :D
Damn....now I got a bad case of shop envy!
Nice work.
That is one of the best looking bass builds I have seen on You Tube and I was expecting some dynamic playing at the end but you played 12 bar blues and jingle bells.
I loved this build!
That’s one awesome looking bass 👍🏻
Wow, predobro!
That’s absolutely stunning 😍
Thank you! 😊
Great look! I made very similar looking 5 stringer as my carpenter's thesis, only it has maple instead of oak. It is my favorite instrument of all time, only a little heavy 😅
Not a bass player but I can appreciate beauty when i see it. Definitely one of the better looking customs I've seen
Wow, thanks!:)
shot at 2:55 was amazing, seeing it come to life like that
Yeah, seing it in real is fascinating for me each and every time..
Absolutely beautiful.
Excellent job. That’s beautiful.
Thank you very much! :)
Perfect Instrument, i love it!
Great build, great music, awesome video!

The robot is cool, but man, those vintage, green machines are something else.

Dude totally dig the wood choices for this build ..
I'd love to have the equipment and money to start trying to build.my own bass...

Wow, beautiful
Thank you Sammy!:)
Masterpiece
those are all the strangest industrial machines ive ever seen.
good god that is amazing
Happy festive season @lignum
looks unique and stunning! only thing is the fast discoloration of the paduk, keep us posted in half a year how it looks, great job.
The last part where it is played is actually filmed a few days ago almost half year after it was built, we made it in early summer before I started the house project. We will see how it will look in a year or so but so far I just darkened a little bit. Glad you like it!😁
Good job, awesome bass
Thakn you!
@@lignumchannel Thank you for the video. Greetings from Russia. If I made a mistake, I'm sorry, I'm writing through a translator. The bass turned out good.
Шикарно!
New subscriber here.......love from India
It's amazing
Thank you! Glad you like it!
Wonderful!
Thank you Antonio!
Beatifull York..
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!:)
Very nice looking and sounding bass!
BTW: Interesting shop. Obviously professional. But interesting equipment! Huge CNC, but not a drill press nor table saw in sight!
Nice music, the Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees couldn't have done it better
😁thank you very much Peter!
Great guitar you made there!
Thank you very much J W!
Awesome
trabalho incrivel top top !!!! mais um inscrito ok
god thats beautiful
Very nice. I love how it has nice angles, not those super rounded sides that are so popular, and ugly IMHO.
Art!
Glad you like it Milo!
This shop is terrifying.
Wow, I want one
Love the combination of materials! How's the house coming along?
Wow, you basically have your own "robot".
WOW, that is so AWESOME !!! Very nice, very beautiful and a very great job! What is the dark type of wood you used on the top? It looks woo.
Thank you very much Byron! The dark wood is called wenge.
These are amazing videos, every time I'm amazed.
One question I have, what is the real "project" for you? the Guitar or the Video from it?
That's sweet! Also too pretty to play.
Thank you very much! :)
🤩
Gorgeous bass, looks heavier than a baby elephant
Thank you!😁 It is more like baby sub-antartic fur seal ( 4.2kg) ;)
@@lignumchannel bahahaha touché well done!
💖💖💖💖
Beautiful. Sounds great. Very articulate and defined. Has a pleasant midrange like a Peavey Cirrus or some old Rickenbackers. How does the neck play?
This is awesome! But please, consider using a pop up door for the battery. I've had batteries die in the middle of a gig, and taking 3-4 minutes to change it is too long.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice work guys. It is a pleasure to watch your videos. May I ask you what type of cnc do you use? Is it a cobot? Could you tell me the brand?
Herrlich👍👍👍❤️
Thank you Frank!
Wow this is beautiful! Question - is that silicone caulk or something you put in the truss rod channel? I've heard of folks adding a few beads of that to help prevent rattling, but this is the first I've seen someone fill the whole channel. So the truss rod can still do it's thing that way? Again, gorgeous build!
Yeah, when I saw this I was like surely that’s gonna prevent the TR from doing what it does? But hey….what do I know…
Excellent work, love it.
Out of curiosity, why you do not cut with the CNC robot the headstock part, the angled section and the thru holes?
Thank you Ivan! I did for a couple of guitars but the time needed to position it precisely, securely and correctly is much longer than to do it by hand.
Sounds as good as it looks...
Yep make sure you have a lot of space in your new house for them...do i see a custom guitar displace cabinet coming in your future? Have a awesome weekend
I will make something along these lines , for the first few we made for sure.. Glad you like it Robert! Have a great weekend also! :)
cooll!!
Thanks!:)
