As a therapist, I completely agree that Khorne's path embodies the cycle of rage and pain. The Butcher's Nails gradually creates a loss of self, making it so they only feel catharsis by acting on the anger. This cycle becomes addictive to the point that even pain itself becomes addictive, not just anger. One day you give in, and rage turns to wrath. You would go through anything and would hurt anyone just to have things your way. If that is not the work of Khorne, I don't know what is.

@@ThetaCholchici Very true! Although we know a lot more about the Warp than in-universe characters do, so maybe our hypothetical World Eater has enough experience with Khorne to have some vague hope about his eventual end, but doesn't have the same familiarity with Tzeentch to make that judgement. Now that I think about it, his views are ironically very similar to Fabius Bile, who also thinks that beings of the Warp aren't really sapient (but believes they're localized warp phenomena with effects mortal minds interpret as living entities, instead of paperclip maximizers for an emotion).
Khorne is also the God of Honor and Glory. Originally follows of Khorne were barred from killing the weak and defenceless, Khorne did care from where the blood flowed. There used to be stories of how the followers of Khorne while on their rampage, wouldn't kill children, criples, or those without weapons and the will to fight. They would just walk past, thus making the people think it was the God's blessing and become devoted themselves. However if the battle wasn't raging hard and you seemed like you had spirit they would give you a weapon to fight with so they could end you. Seems in recent years GW basically forgot this.
Please enlighten me on more of the positive aspects of the four Ruinous Powers that Games Workshop had forgotten. I want to keep that side of them alive through my own writing.
Indeed, Khorne did start as a God of senseless slaughter. _Every life taken by a follower of Khorne increases the Blood God's power. He looks with particular favour upon those who take the lives of their friends and allies, and the more death and destruction a creature has caused, the more welcome it is as sacrifice to Khorne. Any follower who lets a day pass without contributing to the bloody-handed slaughter by which Khorne is worshipped will incur the god's great disfavour._ *From Realms of Chaos - Slaves to Darkness (1988)* _The followers of Khorne are always ferocious warriors, for the Blood God abhors magic and sorcerers are particularly valued as sacrifices to his unquenchable thirst. Khorne‘s followers may feel they can justify their life of slaughter in any number of ways through honour, bravery or martial pride. However, the most fanatical of Khorne’s worshippers know that he desires only wild slaughter in his name and that all else is meaningless artifice._ *From Codex Chaos 2nd edition (1996)* There were some mentions of honor but very contradictory: _Khorne is a noble warrior who respects strength and bravery, who takes no joy in destroying the weak, and considers the helpless unworthy of his wrath. It is said that fate will spare any brave warrior who calls upon Khorne's name and pledges his soul to the Blood God. It is also said that Khorne's daemons will hunt down and destroy any warrior who betrays his honour by killing a helpless innocent or murdering in cold blood. Khorne's great delight is battle and the spilling of blood._ *From Epic Renegades (1992)* _Khorne sits upon a great throne of brass atop a mountainous pile of bleached skulls. Whenever a Champion of Khorne is slain in battle his skull is added to the pile. Khorne only respects strength and bravery, and considers the helpless or weak worthy of nothing better than a swift death. It is said that fate will spare any warrior who calls upon Khorne's name and pledges his soul to the Blood God. It is also said that Khorne's daemons will hunt down and destroy any of his Champions who betray his honour by fleeing from combat or avoiding battle._ *From Titan Legions (1994)*
Well, at the end of the day, he is a Chaos God, so the obvious inconsistencies in GW's handling of the lore can be set aside in that you can find both Bloodlust and Honor in Khorne. And this honor is primarily "martial honor" more than anything else, or whatever twisted and bastardized justification you can invent to reconcile the fact that you burned a Hive City to the ground while consumed by rage.
I'm not sure that this was something GW forgot - more something they remembered. From the early days, Khorne was very much a god of unlimited violence and the whole martial honour thing was something that some chaos followers chose to subscribe to. Early WFB Chaos borrowed very heavily from Runequest's Cults of Prax and Cults of Terror and for my money Khorne was based on the troll god Zorak Zoran who is described in very similar terms using many of the same words and phrases. Early depictions of Khorne (before everything GW did was seen through a John Blanche Thrash Metal prism) even looked a lot like Zorak Zoran. Compare the pictures in Slaves to Darkness (still the best RPG supplement ever made by any company) to almost any depiction of ZZ. These were both deities devoted to wholesale violence and slaughter and there wasn't much room for codes of honour. The idea of the Khornate being somehow akin to Predators or Samurai isn't something that really existed until at least the mid to late 1990s. If for no other reason than it doesn't make any sense.
I got my father to warhammer 40 k and he immediately liked khorn and when we play with my sister( she plays dark prince ) he start shouting blood for the blood god ( sometimes when we go to boxing matches or training )
I'll take that Slaanesh Lore whenever you feel ready. You literally got me into 40K with your re-uploads of the tiktok shorts you made covering the different sections of Slaanesh's realm, followed by DA ORK FAKS. I'd also be interested in the Tzeench lore!
One of my favourite ''characters'' on both fantasy and 40k. Soo simple yet effective and the way in wich proud and valiant warriors of any kind get slowly overcomed with bloodlust and rage when he set his corrupting gaze upon them is soo cool.
I love that you went into what anger and rage actually comprise. Its something I've actually spent an inordinate time thinking about and how it interacts with sadism and addiction, both being in Slaanesh's realm. I think one of the implicit things about Khorne and his followers that distinguishes him from the other Chaos Gods is an inherent belief in justice. I remember reading somewhere that people with anger management issues tend to actually be optimistic, and its the disconnect between how things are and how they should be that triggers a lot of episodes. I thiink that applies perfectly to most Khornate cults. Also helps explain Kharn's little internal monologue that time he gets cut down by Sigismund. He's convinced that he's actually the protector of humanity and Sigismund is the monster. I can't imagine the champions of any of the other gods thinking that way: Ahriman would gloat about his superior intellect, Typhus would comment that you fail to acknowledge the horror of reality, and Lucius would explain how much better his existence is that yours, but none of them would actually care if they were *morally* in the right. It also helps differentiate, at least in my mind, the difference between the rage of the world eaters with the more collateral, wanton destruction of the iron warriors and the fear mongering of the night lords. Neither of those are really based in the concept of justice (although Curze is obviously obsessed with his own concept of justice and the IW are famously petty). I wish GW would spend more time fleshing out the motivations of some of these more "psycho" legions, although i get that the nuance is part of the appeal.
it also sucks because GW has flanderized khorne a lot, hes also the god of honor, originally khorne followers wouldnt touch children, the elderly, or those who could not or would not fight, and were barred from harming someone defenseless but now its just the rage aspects and its kinda lame
Hey, i knoe im a random person...but i appreciate you squeezing all the content out of warhammer 40k u can. Thanks for your effort. I got into the universe by playing Winter assault, too bad nothing like you existed back then. Thanks for everything.
You're the person who got me into Warhammer Lore, and lore videos in general. You put information into an easily digestible and fun format, and I've spent many nights falling asleep listening to your videos. Thank you so much for all your time, effort, and knowledge.
Nice video! Now I want to see you do the gods! I also wonder if you'll do a video on all the gifts a Chaos god has given to a person and don't mean power. For example: Khorn giving a gift of blood or a weapon to a person for their fighting.
Khorne is my favorite Chaos god, I have dealt with anger management for a long time and I can agree that the feeling of pure rage and the power it can give me is addicting. I vibe with the survival-of-the-fittest mindset and the more positive aspects of Khorne such as Honor, Simplistic Truth, and pursuit of Strength and Martial Prowess
Personally when it comes to the Chaos gods Khorne's virtues are fairly in line with my own beliefs. Self-improvement, discipline, honesty, and the desire to protect even through violence. I'd personally serve Khorne because I value that straight forward honesty that he has above the other gods. I'd love to see a novel where a character is constantly striving to be the best while also balancing that against Khorne constantly whispering to go overboard.
@@NXTangl Self-improvement isn't being the best it's striving to be better than you were yesterday. Smarter, stronger, etc. While some take it to that extreme most don't
Wes. Excellent job connecting this to the real world. Your breakdown on anger and rage and the physiological responses that we have to it/for it were most excellent. Please keep that up. I’m intrigued!
For Warhammer your the best You Tuber out there for lore and information 🤘Glad to hear you are back at it, was a little uncertain when you put up the store had closed ,good to know your back at it and got sorted 🤘
It's refreshing to hear a lore channel admit they don't actually know everything about their chosen subject, props for the honesty. A deep dive on each of the chaos gods would be awesome to watch.
Yes yes yes I have been waiting for a video on Khorne, keep up the good work Wes, love all your videos. My pick from the Chaos deities would be Vashtor, I have seen your video about him a million times
KHorne is by far the most reasonable choice for a faction to be under. Rage and violence can and have been used for good, he’s honorable, rewards power and martial prowess, and despises those who pray on the weak, and won’t just betray you for no reason. Imagine a khornate greater demon berserker who just thrives off of protecting this on meek human planet that every other faction is constantly trying to conquer and destroy, but nobody can because this unbeatable monster hangs around waiting for the next inevitable attack. Inadvertently making that planet the safest and most peaceful place in the galaxy lol
Khorne doesn't despise those who prey on weak. If you slaughter orphanages and babies Khorne would be totally ok with it. He is rage and hatred manifested. When you feel your blood boil in rage do you feel any honour in it? Khorne isn't just a god of hate and rage, he is the rage and hate itself.
Idk, khorne is *a chaos god* so I’d assume by nature he’d have at least a few contrasting themes right? He rewards unending adrenaline fueled berserk frenzies, but also rewards playing smart and fighting guys above your perceived weight class, and challenging yourself to greater feats. So if you were to be a follower, you’d end up choosing between, “I KILL EVERYTHING!” And “I fight smart and play good wargame tactics.” Honestly, all of chaos can be justifiably good, and the bad over-indulgent aspects of it are your reminder to let off the gas every few fights and orgies. just take the philosophy to advance yourself and stay true to your fellow man. (I know to suggest such is heresy. However given that it is a stupid offense I’ve elected to ignore it😂)
Not much honor in killing the defenseless. Khorne is the God of honor and martial prowess, killing the weak would not be viewed well, it would be considered a waste of time or outright cowardice to not challenge a worthy opponent with the time spent. Skulls not worthy of the skull throne but it will have them regardless.
Came for the WesHammer video, stayed for the @RoanokeGaming style deep dive into biology. Also, YES PLEASE! I'd love to see more videos about the other Gods.
They already have Ahriman for the Thousand Sons and Typhus for the Death Guard. It would be a break in pattern to not have Khorne's champion in the lineup.
What Khorne says to other Gods Nurgle: You need a shower and yoga! Tzeentch: Stop reading and go touch grass! Slaanesh: Go to horny jail!! Emperor: You're cringe!! Gork: You're okay Mork: Why cant you be like Gork!? Hive Mind: No nom nom that fucking galaxy!! Cegorach: Stop laughing! Khaine: Meet me at gym later, old man! That "Tau God" in a warp humans saw: ....What!?! Nightbringer: Too edgy!! Deceiver: I dont trust you! Void-dragon: I like dragons Ommissiah: Neeeerd!!!
Just wanted to say a big thank you Wes for the more heretical content. I really love all of your chaos related videos. You approach the topic from a different point of view that makes it all make more sense. It's not just the Imperial mindset of "Destroy the Heretic" and "Burn the Witch". Nurgle especially made no sense to me n just gave me the ick before... but now I think I get it after seeing some of your other videos. Would definitely love more insights from you delving deeper under the surface of each chaos faction.
Your wrong about your interpretation of khorne. Most factual information is correct, but your interpretation goes against the evidence presented. Khorne is not an addict like slanesh to adrenaline, if he and his followers were, then there would be no khorne as it would just be slanesh. Khorne is rage, this is true. The rage of the down trodden and slaves builds to the point to fighting bsck with stone and stick against 5here masters. Khorne is true freedom from suffering. Where as nurgle simply says there is no suffering, Spanish escapes suffering through excess, and zteench tries to conquer suffering, khorne breaks these chains. Life is suffering as the 8 fold path of the Buddha recognizes. Khorne agrees, and thus chooses not to run from it, not to hide from it, or subvert it. Instead accept that pain and you can be free. By taking life from the balls and doing what you must, you are free from pain. The highland is overthrown, the beast is killed, the war is over. However it can be said that rage itself is a form of pain. If pain is a chain, thrn rage is also a chain. Just as angron had been a slave to his overlords and the empower, only to break free with enough rage and power, khorne himself is a new slave master to angron. And you see this is why we see the world eaters as perpetually in pain and rage. Its not to say they arnt, but they don't see themselves that way. Read their codex and it appears like they are monks. They acknowledge that khorne, pain, and rage are all the same, eternal suffering through never having freedom. And yet, the brief instances they find peice is in slaughter. The nails calm and endorphins create euphoria. But they arnt looking to be happy like slanesh, they crave peace. Through their pain and the pain of others, they endure, they find freedom from pain from enduring, and from freedom they find peace. What other way is there to live? A wolf knows nothing of the complexities of our world and is mindless in pursuit of survival. In this way, it is free and at peace even in death
Certainly, people often forget how easy it is to fall into the hands of the Blood God and give him less credit than he deserves just because of the seemingly "superficial" nature of his theme. But borrowing the words of an anonymous Reddit user: *Blood for the Blood God,* says the death camp commandant while he signs his signature on a form condemning thousands to die. *Blood for the Blood God,* says the serial killer while he inflicts the sacred eight wounds on his victim. *Blood for the Blood God,* says the gladiator as he prepares to walk into an arena filled with a hundred thousand screaming fans. *Skulls for the Skull Throne,* says the politician who has resolved to take a harder approach against the enemy in order to preserve the lives of his soldiers. *Skulls for the Skull Throne,* says the mother who picks up an illegally obtained autopistol in an attempt to cleanse her neighborhood of the gangsters who plague it. *Skulls for the kull Throne,* says the child who has discovered that the only thing the bullies at the scholam understand is violence. Khorne is the god of violent conflict. His voice whispers inspiration into the ears of sadistic madmen, and noble freedom fighters alike. Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows. A father who murders his child's abuser is as welcomed as a politician who orders mass genocide. Khorne cares only that it flows. Whether it flows from a brawl between two equally skilled combatants, or from a defenseless victim who has fallen prey to a ruthless predator.
You can see this quite well in Dawn of War II, in the character of Azariah Kyras. The former Chief Librarian and Chapter Master of the Blood Ravens. One of the few psykers who gained the favor of Khorne. His plan was to force the Inquisition to call for an Exterminatus on an entire subsector, a sacrifice worthy of legend in the name of the Blood God. So while it could still be said that Khorne certainly prefers his champions wielding their swords in close combat in a fight to determine who is worthy to continue living, he will also gladly savor the seas of blood spilled from the countless lives consumed by the flames of an atmosphere ignited by Cyclonic Torpedoes.
Blood for the Blood God! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!! Thank you for the great Warhammer content it keeps me entertained when i have to do something long and tedious
Fantastic video as always! Would love to see you cover all 4 Chaos gods in this way:) I'll only disagree a bit on the part about Khorne only appreciating melee combat. While rage does tend to push for melee, Khorne does not inherently disregard shooting (instert Mr Incredible meme "combat is combat!"). For example, Commander Farsight almost fell to Khorne in Arks of Omen, and during his vision of himself as a daemon prince of Khorne he certainly still kept his plasma rifle and used it.
As someone in chronic pain, and having childhood CPTSD, I completely agree that rage can be addictive. Gives energy to move past the pain, that feeling of strength. However, if forced to worship one of the chaos gods, I'd probably go Tzeentch. He's my personal least favorite, but I already am quite familiar with disease, excess, and violence. I love secret lore. There's always something new to learn. I'd love to see the other gods done in videos like this. Keep up the good work, Wes! Love ya, man!
It is to have cries of anguish and sorrow drowned by the thirsting laughter of dark gods. Forget any notion of common humanity or compassion. There is no peace amongst the stars, for in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.

We need more Chaos Marines written like this instead of "it was all daddy issues" or "I had a goal, but I forgot about it". Period. 😎

A friend mentioned some of this to me. I used it for lore for one of my armies.
Any follower who lets a day pass without contributing to the bloody-handed slaughter by which Khorne is worshipped will incur the god's great disfavour._
*From Realms of Chaos - Slaves to Darkness (1988)*
_The followers of Khorne are always ferocious warriors, for the Blood God abhors magic and sorcerers are particularly valued as sacrifices to his unquenchable thirst. Khorne‘s followers may feel they can justify their life of slaughter in any number of ways through honour, bravery or martial pride. However, the most fanatical of Khorne’s worshippers know that he desires only wild slaughter in his name and that all else is meaningless artifice._
*From Codex Chaos 2nd edition (1996)*
There were some mentions of honor but very contradictory:
_Khorne is a noble warrior who respects strength and bravery, who takes no joy in destroying the weak, and considers the helpless unworthy of his wrath. It is said that fate will spare any brave warrior who calls upon Khorne's name and pledges his soul to the Blood God. It is also said that Khorne's daemons will hunt down and destroy any warrior who betrays his honour by killing a helpless innocent or murdering in cold blood. Khorne's great delight is battle and the spilling of blood._
*From Epic Renegades (1992)*
_Khorne sits upon a great throne of brass atop a mountainous pile of bleached skulls. It is also said that Khorne's daemons will hunt down and destroy any of his Champions who betray his honour by fleeing from combat or avoiding battle._
*From Titan Legions (1994)*

So basically, in Cod, Khorne hates quick scopers and snipers and praises shotgunners? Sweet.

In my experience shotgunners hides in corners lmao, id imagine smgers would be hes go to
I loved khorne/ world eaters when I was an angry 12/13 year old. Now I'm in a much better place later in life.
I play flesh tearers.
Fair enough
They’re almost equally feared by Imperial Citizens and Astra Militarum …
Upgrades, people, upgrades.
Natural progression
i still love khorne but with the more original khorne instead of current khorne
@thefrenchiestfry5583 is there a book that talks about that? I'd like to check that out and get a deeper look into Khorne.

Right?! At least with Khorne you know exactly what you are signing up for right off the bat. Unlike with the other Chaos Gods, or the False Emperor.
You're the person who got me into Warhammer Lore, and lore videos in general. You put information into an easily digestible and fun format, and I've spent many nights falling asleep listening to your videos. Thank you so much for all your time, effort, and knowledge.
This is a very well made video. More than most especially the end. You really tried to make us understand why
Nice video! Now I want to see you do the gods!
I also wonder if you'll do a video on all the gifts a Chaos god has given to a person and don't mean power. For example: Khorn giving a gift of blood or a weapon to a person for their fighting.
So happy that your channel keeps rocking. You are a huge part of this hobby.
Best Warhammer RUclipsr ever. Thanks for always making awesome videos for us.
I'd love to see a novel where a character is constantly striving to be the best while also balancing that against Khorne constantly whispering to go overboard.
...being the best is more slaanesh tho.
@@NXTangl Self-improvement isn't being the best it's striving to be better than you were yesterday. Smarter, stronger, etc. While some take it to that extreme most don't
its even better bc hes also the god of honor, and originally his followers were barred from harming the weak or defenseless
Wes. Excellent job connecting this to the real world. Your breakdown on anger and rage and the physiological responses that we have to it/for it were most excellent. Please keep that up. I’m intrigued!

Great video Wes and yes please do the other chaos gods
Also knowing myself I'd definitely fall to slaanesh so...yeah...
@72skci72 didn't he kill one of his own warriors for killing a child?
Idk, khorne is *a chaos god* so I’d assume by nature he’d have at least a few contrasting themes right?
He rewards unending adrenaline fueled berserk frenzies, but also rewards playing smart and fighting guys above your perceived weight class, and challenging yourself to greater feats. So if you were to be a follower, you’d end up choosing between, “I KILL EVERYTHING!” And “I fight smart and play good wargame tactics.”
Honestly, all of chaos can be justifiably good, and the bad over-indulgent aspects of it are your reminder to let off the gas every few fights and orgies. just take the philosophy to advance yourself and stay true to your fellow man.

*KHORNE DOESN'T NEED A PHILOSOPHY*
*KHORNE NEEDS BLOOD AND SKULLS RAAAAAAHHHHHH*
Idd go with gramps ( nergal) he actually offers love , even if it's twisted its still more than the others are even capable of.
Well said!
You make fun videos! Hope this helps with the algorithm.

Certainly, people often forget how easy it is to fall into the hands of the Blood God and give him less credit than he deserves just because of the seemingly "superficial" nature of his theme.
But borrowing the words of an anonymous Reddit user:
*Blood for the Blood God,* says the death camp commandant while he signs his signature on a form condemning thousands to die.
As a man that has succumbed to rage and violence, Khorn template is whom I most relate to.
Ooo..see in my culture he is known as the Great Khaîrne Bear

Fantastic video as always! Would love to see you cover all 4 Chaos gods in this way:)
I'll only disagree a bit on the part about Khorne only appreciating melee combat.
We need a video on Rylenor
As someone in chronic pain, and having childhood CPTSD, I completely agree that rage can be addictive. Gives energy to move past the pain, that feeling of strength. However, if forced to worship one of the chaos gods, I'd probably go Tzeentch. He's my personal least favorite, but I already am quite familiar with disease, excess, and violence. I love secret lore. There's always something new to learn.
I'd love to see the other gods done in videos like this. Keep up the good work, Wes! Love ya, man!
