World Record BASE Jump from Mt. Everest

- Nearly 60 years to the day after the first ascent up Mount Everest, Russian extreme sport star Valery Rozov (48) flew off the north face of Mount Everest - the world's highest BASE jump ever - 7220 meters (23,688ft) above sea level.
► Watch Red Bull Air Force BASE Jump In South Africa: • Red Bull Air Force BAS...
The ascent began on the Chinese side on the famous north route. It took him four days to climb from the base camp to the jumping location. At precisely 2:30 p.m. local time he leaped despite adverse weather conditions with temperatures -18 Celsius. Because the cliff at the top was not very high, the initial moments of the leap in the rarified high altitude air were the most critical phase. Rozov needed more time than usual in the thin air to transition from freefall to flying. After that he flew for nearly a full minute at speeds of about 200 km/h (125 mph) along the north face before he landed safely on the Rongbuk glacier - at an altitude of 5,950 meters.
"Only when I got back home did I see how hard it was for me both physically and psychologically,"" said Rozov after getting home to Moscow. ""When you look at the videos you realize that it took a lot longer than usual to get from falling to flying."

when i was 5, i jumped off my garage with an umbrella
if only redbull existed then.....did you get hurt???
lol me too, also with a garbage bag
i need to try this
lol
that's cool huh!
if you had jumped from the summit i would have really been impressed...
+MDFlight There was an Everest summit wingsuit jump planned in early/mid 2014, by Joby Ogwyn, and was going to be filmed by Discovery. However, on the day the jump was planned, there was a massive avalanche on Everest, which killed 13 people, including the guides for Joby. The mountain was subsequently closed for the rest of the season.
Not sure if/when another Everest Summit Wingsuit jump is planned. It does take a fair bit of planning, and a significant amount of work. And a fair bit of luck (it IS Everest).
hybby two men jumped from summit by paraglides
+russsboy Paraglides aren't wingsuits. Big big difference.
hybby agree.... sorry for my bad english (i am from russia)
+hybby you make it sound like that wasn't a big deal....
That whole video and we get 7 seconds of flight footage? I want my 4 minutes back
World class BASE jumping, millions of dollars in team expenses, and you hand the editing over to an intern.
What would you do with the extra 4 minutes?
I totally agree, the video editing is more about the interviews and the people than the actual footage. Very unimpressive editing.
Right, where the hell is the helmet camera, you know he had one.... nobody is dumb enough to do something like that and not have a helmet camera.
Thanks for saving me almost 4 minutes. I just fast forwarded 😅
"How much for a return to the top of Everest?"
"About £45,000 sir"
"How much for a single?"
Around$20,000 bro
@@bhabishkatwal1744 but now I think $11k
The real challenge would be fly to the summit by drinking red bull.
lol
InsaneCyril Red Bull and antifreeze mixed
red bull gives you WIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiingsss
hahah
Yeah but it gives you wings so you could just fly to the top
This video must be titled "How I got Red Bull to pay for the climb to Everest"
Not really brother. It's still an impressive jump!
And if they paid you, you'd do it? No worries, you're safe in your cubicle
well he's dead now, RIP valery
and neither they climbed
Seriously. I see people talk about climbing Everest. You pretty much have to be rich to do it. I think the cheapest plan for it is like $60k. And for it to be safer/more enjoyable it goes to like $100k. I’m not downplaying the climb, it takes a really fit person to do it. But you’re not carrying your own food, shelter, gear or anything. It’s not like climbing a regular mountain or something.
We'll always remember you Valery. Russian Superman flying off of Everest. Too many great people have died in this sport, but you should never stop chasing your dreams. Rozov will continue to inspire me from beyond the grave.
Just to skip to 2:50 secs for watching the the guy jumping off the mountain 🏔 if you that’s what you clicked on this link for like I did
@@KartiacKID All due respect that's not the peak, hopefully someone actually does it from abover base camp four at the full peak one day.
Darwin is watching
RIP Valery... the side of RedBull's athlete program noone talks about...
Is Valery the man in the video? You have to have a deathwish to wingsuit dive. The fatality rate is around 10%. Still, it is questionable whether red bull should be enabling it
@@robbiefuller190 1 death every 500 jumps in wingsuit, i guess in proximity flying discipline, even more ;)
Dude lost hise life doing this on lotse a yr or two ago
@@racerschin and even higher in wingsuit BASE jumping.
skip to 2:40 ,actually just skip the entire video, this sucked.
Lmfao it sooooooo did lol 😃. Wasn't even the summit!
Jonathan Vosman ?
Jonathan Vosman the video didn't show very much. The summit was the least of this guy's problem. I honestly wish I would have not wasted my time watching this.
+MrAkurvaeletbe really wish i had listened to your advice..
Sebastin Otis are you happy now that you made a public Google comment? Give yourself a pat on the back lmfao! 😄
To save time, you wing suit all the way to Lukla airport from Everest and catch the plane with minutes to spare ...
I cant imagine the efforts put in to reach the launch point. Thumbs up all the way
When I was an umbrella, I jumped off my 29 with a garage.
fail
That is duesome awude :)))
When I was a garage I jumped off umbrella with my 37
Lol
most underrated comment on you tube!
Sad to tell But this man died yesterday due to a wingsuit accident RIP
no one’s surprised
Rip
Of course he died, literally everyone who flies with wingsuits dies. Rip
@@user-bh6rq5hr6q literally everyone dies. RIP
@@TreneiroVlog yea I know but not that early, atleast he died on a mountain and not on a street or at home.
Why are so many of you negative? The target was to set a world record, and not to ascent the peak. At 7500 meters is the atmospheric pressure only one third of the pressure at sea level. That required a long vertical drop before the speed was high enough for the suit to produce lift and forward speed.
If so, then uploader must correct their title..... if you say Mt. Everest, it must MT EVEREST.......
records are arbitrary. The first from any point on the mountain would be the first from that point, yippee a new record..... the highest jump, the longest jump by distance from start point, the longest before deploying the chute... if one is going to go to Mount Everest, summit. He did nothing significant but to be the first to jump in a wing suit from the very specific spot. yawn.
Some Nice points added there..👍
I think people fail to understand what lower air pressure does when trying to get lift. I doubt it would be possible from the summit but IDK.
Then I can jump from base camp 1 and say I jumped of from Mount Everest. You see the logic? The title should then say "new world record jump" and not "jump from Everest".
They only showed 20 seconds, if that, of his flight... from the highest place on Earth?
That is completely weak dude...
Maybe the battery ran out
***** Its not even the highest point. He was on the north col point. 23000 feet
***** You cant really jump from the top, its not steep enough. And you cant fall all the way down for the same reason. He went from 7200 meters to 5900 meters. Thats less than a mile. Its not the depth of his fall whats extreme. Its the low pressure around him which severely decreases his ability to control the fall and the parachutes efficiency.
***** Well, all I had to do was to read the description...
And I also forgot to mention that the mountain doesnt go 8850 meters high from terrain, it is located on Tibetian plateau so it "only" goes like 3-4 kilometers above terrain. He would have to fly hundreds of kilometers horizontaly to actualy land 8850 meters below the summit.
Thank you. This is super inspiring. Showing anything is possible!!! Congrats to the team!!!
Rest in peace, Valery!
ANother beautiful soul claimed by this incredibly dangerous, yet awe inspiring and breath taking sport. RIP!
He's back in base camp eating a hot meal and sleeping in a comfy warm tent. The rest of the team is spending several nights strapping in to a cold rock in bivvy sacks eating ramen wishing they took the short cut back.
WOW this is by far the single most RADDEST thing i have ever seen. FREAKIN AWESOME. way to go!
lilmacc 19 I love that this is the one comment they liked
Max Moseley yah cause everyone else is being assholes
The point where he jumped from, thats not actual peak of Mt. Everest...... If you say Mt. Everest, you must be on the height of 8,848 metre. Anyway, respect this man with strong guts. :)
He was still flying from Mt Everest, just not the summit. The title tells the truth.
A jump from the summit would be awesome
You need a cliff to jump with a wingsuit. The top of Everest doesn't have one, would be cool if it did.
geefreck kangshung face or just a little lower on the southwest face
Bizz Lamichhane Didn't you jump on Mt. Everest, not the summit?
How can you call it "flying"? You should call it "Falling like a rock from Mt. Everest dressed as a flying squirrel."
+Per Lunheim LOL :D but it is actually flying, wing suit has a glide ratio of 3:1, not an impressive glide ratio but what can you expect more from a mere peace of cloth that looks like a flying squirrel suit?
LOL! I still wouldn't call it flying, I will call it a controlled fall.. Still, I'm very impressed by these folks, and I love watching them! Sheer folly as it is, and Hubris De Luxe.. The brother of a friend of mine died during a wingsuit BASE-jump in Lauterbrunnen, Schweitz..

I defiantly would be jumping instead of climbing back down, even if it were my first time. Thank you for teaching the rest of us how to really live life to the fullest, you will be sadly missed. R.I.P. dear man. You set the bar really high for the rest of us Sir. And we love you for this.
What
He is no longer with us. I had never heard of him, but after seeing this, I almost knew he most likely passed. You cannot jump off mountains like this over and over and over and over again, without having a great chance of dying. I saw a documentary with Jeb Corliss, and he said, his accident where he almost died, gave him fear back, which made him much more careful, and made him value his life again. Unfortunately most of these guys, don't get so lucky like Jeb did. And let me tell you Jeb got LUCKY. RIP Valery.
Who are these people that would give this video a thumbs down? This is worthy of all thumbs up fo sho. Most of the people watching this video don’t understand the lack of air density up there when it comes to flying anything. The pilot is falling much longer and faster then sea level, much less control. Much more dangerous. This is called Density Altitude. High density altitude like this is tricky and very dangerous. Nice job guys.
I just got this reccomendation.... This video was from 7 years ago. This guy died 3 years ago. Doing what he loved. Jumping off of perfectly good mountains.
lol
when i was 35 i jumped off my umbrella with a garage.

People in the comment section: oh my gosh they suck
Man you cant even climb a tree
Justin Y. Your not even the real Justin Y
Ikr. People are always hating but they don't think a second about how hard it is to get up there and what kind of balls you need to actually jump. The wind conditions and weather conditions are very different on a hight like that compared to 'regular' jumps.
People need to think more and hate less
I once wing suited of Everest it was amazing, then I woke up
Good job focusing on acclimatization. It's super important, and even climbers often underestimate it.
Wow, so so dope!! Red Bull guys are just something else
This is a fantastic experience, i am not so sure they can do the jump from the peak.
When i was 5, i jumped off my garage withOUT an umbrella
Climbing is tough .. getting down is easy even in life.. inspiring video

Sad to read so many negative comments...
Bravo my friend, that was quite an achievement! 👍
"People made it up but not back down"
This guy: that sounds like a challenge
Amazing accomplishment!!! Bravo!!!🔥💣💥
Two guys para-glided off of Everest and then canoed to the Indian Ocean, go check out those guys if you want something hardcore.
Flag Man Well, if you really want to get down to it, a bunch of Russian prisoners escaped from a Soviet gulag in the middle of winter during WWII, hiked through Siberia and Mongolia, then in succession crossed the Gobi desert and hiked through the entire Himalayan mountain range to eventually wind up in India...a 4,000 mile trek in some of the harshest conditions on earth. Hard to beat that in terms of hardcore.

Whenever I see these BASE people I always flick across to wiki to see when they died... Yup, 2017. See ya Valery.
Epic life.
If I was part of the support crew, I would have fought the guy for his suit just so I didn't have to walk back down.
Would have been difficult to find the support team given 13 Sherpas died in an avalanche fixing the ropes for this idiot
Definitely not what I thought this video would be? but still impressive because of all the work it takes to prepare and do what you did
Legend! Tough young men.
Rest in peace, Valery.
Almost every epic thing like this that I watch, the person who did it died young.
If this guy jumped from the Everest peak he could have kept flying for miles and miles. Shame.
Well Done....Amazing!!!!
Good onya algorithm. Thanks. This was a good one.

did they hydrate with redbull on the way up?
They hydrate with a cocaine water solution .

I'm a nepali and I have quite a few expeditions. I am proud of my sherpa brothers. When I last went to the base camp near everest and I talked with them, they are true and brave souls. But unfornately, most of the so called wannabe climbers who come here don't enough credit to the sherpas at all.
Faster than climbing down. Kudos !
Great job sir
Why not fly all the way down instead of not even half the way?
ikr!
Jas L Land He was in a pressure suit bb
Wow, That was so exciting and scary to watch that I had to hold my breath the whole time. Luckily all I really had to do was inhale and then slowly exhale. Really? All that build up for 20 seconds of flight then an open chute. Watching that jump from Mt. Everest was about as exciting as if he would have jumped from Mt. Sinai Hospital's roof. Love the over exaggerated title. "Flying from Mt. Everest - The Mission - World Record BASE Jump"
It should have read, "Flying from Mt. Everest - To just a little bit lower on Mt. Everest - World Record Base Jump - For shortest distance ever flown with a wing suit and the shortest amount of time in the air"
I know, I know, i'm going to get all of the, "Why don't you try climbing Mt. Everest and base jumping from up there?" Um, No, Why the hell would I want to freeze my ass off climbing for a few days for a thirty second thrill, when I could just run through Ferguson, Mo. screaming I love cops, in nicer weather?
Good job Red Bull, that was almost as exciting as when I pour your product into my shot glass full of Jager.
Marker. Get educated about this jump. It's the world record because of the altitude at the jump off point. The vid is edited, he flew for over 1 minute. You can't jump from the summit because it is not steep enough there. He jumped from the top of a cliff lower down but it was precarious because the vertical section of that cliff was barely tall enough for him to transition from free fall to flying, especially considering the thin air.
Love to see someone doing that from summit of Mount Everest
Wingsuit jumping when the air is that thin can't be that much fun, but congratulations on achieving a record just the same.
I would think, that even with that much less density, given his acceleration and a decent angle, he would get enough force onto his wings to steer comfortably.
Welcome to Nepal the land of Adventure and colourful culture.
***** thank u brother. We are brothers.
Gypsy Rondo depends on how you treat us. Its a give and take world brother !!
Gypsy Rondo do u even know me brother ? i guess not. How could u even judge a person u dont even know ?? U must ve have faced a lot of problem throughout ur life, !! This shows why people in Nepal were angry at u, No wonder they were. u need help bro !!!
Gypsy Rondo hahaahahahahah no why would i ?? Ur point makes no sense to me!! hahaahahah !!!
Would have been more impressed if he jumped with a red bull in is hand or a beer.
+David Donohue
😂😂😂
That was very cool.
The thin air at that altitude must massively effect the lift on the suit. Really a very risky jump lots of unknowns especially if you're used to low altitude jumps.
2:49 for the money shot
He jumps at 2:49 you're welcome
Fly in peace brave man... 🕊️
I was thinking about doing this next week. Just bought myself a chute and a wingsuit so I should be good. With the quarantine I'll practically have the mountain to myself. I can't wait.
Well, did you make it?
