What she did at 8:15 was 100% on purpose. She can hit the note she aimed for but what she did during that entire 4 bars was intentional. She wanted to convey emotion in raw form. So she purposely broke her voice. That's what this entire performance is about. Conveying emotion. What many people don't quickly figure out is that Yebba did not show up to sing a song. She showed up to tell a story. This performance is as much about technique as driving is about sitting in a seat.
She really is one of the best singers out there. I don’t think we remember that enough.
She is a vocal gymnast. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this and I’m brought to tears , still. I suggest listening to Evergreen, cover of Gravity, and her new songs October Sky and Boomerang. She studied vocal performance at college and, believe it or not, says that at one point she was on the verge of flunking out.

Ok so I get her larynx is awesome, I really honestly do, please don't get me wrong...but like...this woman is cutting into her chest and exposing her soul for you, for me, for everyone who will listen. She isn't showing her voice off she is losing her sanity...PUBLICLY! She is falling apart in front of the world because she is the kind of artist that feels compelled to vocalize the most difficult and most intense aspects of being human because 1. it is the only way she can mitigate her own journey into the abyss and 2. because she knows that many of us feel the same and she recognizes the value of creating a space where those of us also on that journey can feel in some small way less alone.
She makes the most unutterable fears and thoughts that occur at 3am in the dark seem somehow less capable of destroying us, not because she pretended they weren't there but because she looked them in the eye and acknowledged them, and that is the only way to overcome them.
You are stuck, and way too infatuated with technique, you need to turn loose and sing like never before, channel the pain and suffering you have experience, if you haven't experienced much pain-and-suffering, you are young, you will most definitely experience pain as you progress through life, she lived through this experience that's why it sounds like it does.
She is the greatest singer I have ever seen I would like to invite her and lucky daye to perform at my board meeting I am at executive board officer for seiu local 2015 union for homecare providers I am already started working on finding the Person who is over our entertainment to request having the both of you as our guest at one of our executive board meetings I have been sending videos to my friends and family if I am successful It will make me so happy it will be the best thing that ever happened in my life I want her and lucky together I fell in love with them the 1st time I heard them.
