  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2 played & reviewed on the PlayStation 5.
This game is a direct continuation from Spider-Man 2018 and the Miles Morales standalone expansion. Does it live up to the standard of those games, or even improve on them?
-Game not provided by PlayStation - I have no relationship or affiliation with the publisher or developer

About the Gaming Arcadia review & rating system:
There is no perfect way to condense reviews down to a score. BUT scores can still serve a purpose, they can still convey a lot of information in a tiny frame. Our ratings try to consider the vision and ambition of a game, and how well it delivers. Scope & Execution.
    Scope - Letter-graded, A-F
A - Typically the AAA budget blockbuster, aiming to be the best what it does - Be it a huge open world packed with content, a cinematic action game that spares no expense on presentation, or anything else. Big games
B - Still aiming to be the best at what it does, but with a tighter scope
C - Still likely to be a moderately sized team effort, but not so lavish on production value and not pushing boundaries
D - Smaller, tightly focused project.
E - Small-small, perhaps quite singular in focus
F (U?) - There is no discernible ambition. Troll project
S - Unicorn. A game that sincerely attempts to push above & beyond anything we've seen (ie Star Citizen, but real)
The scope will broadly align with the budget of the game, but it isn't a direct correlation - it's more an in-exact way to represent how ambitious the game is. There's no shame or shade in a game having a tight scope, so this really isn't a scale of 'good to bad'.
    Execution - Numeric scale, 0-100
100 is perfect execution in everything the game attempts.
We use the full scale, not the weird 65-96 scale you may see elsewhere. There isn't an exact science to the score, but we feel it is important to recognise and reward the things a game does well (it can be surprisingly easy to overlook those when you are trying to critique)!
"Must play!" - We never tell you whether you should buy a game or not. Everyone's preferences, priorities and circumstances are their own. We're here to tell you about the game, not dictate your finances.

    Great review dude.
I seem to be in the minority in that i did not enjoy it much.
Everything good about the gameplay was pretty much done in 2018.
Here, i feel the cutscenes arent nearly as smooth as GoW for example, especially facial/mouth animations seem choppy and not really in sync. Theres one in particular that i dont want to spoil but it was a main story beat near the end and looked terrible.
And i dont think there was a single boss fight that was so creative that warranted 4 phases of the same fight.
These may be nitpicky complaints but i think when the game has this much hype, budget, and price tag, those 2 things should be better.
Any dark souls game has better bossfights.
Credit where its due tho, i was surprised i actually enjoyed kraven, a character i always thought was stupid lol.
And personally while i agree miles was 2nd fiddle, i thought when the story touched on his father and the man who killed him were the most interesting moments. I wish the arc with him and mr negative had been drawn out a bit more.

That is another excellent review! Yet again I walk away from the screen feeling I really know the game. A totally honest, insightful and intelligent appraisal of games is quite unusual these days so I really appreciate that! Also I liked the large dollop of humo(u)r that you threw in. More please sir!

Great review. Surprised to see your gameplay doesn't feature a white cube swinging around the whole Time 😝

This Review is exactly what I thought it would be, well reasoned, fair its sharp points clearly illucidated…I will be looking forward to your Game Reviews from now on. Lastly, your word play is top drawer.

Agree with almost everything you said, but Peter on a bicycle was inspired! In truth I loved all the non-spiderman moments because they feel like seeing behind the scenes. Just playing as spiderman becomes grating and feels very one dimensional because as a superhero the character has no character. If the game didn't break with these scenes most people wouldn't finish the story. This becomes extremely clear once the story ends and all you can do is be spiderman. Instantly the game becomes dull.

Thanks. You're right about the benefits in terms of both exposition and pacing, but I still didn't enjoy the bicycle!

You might have the best scoring system I’ve ever seen. I love the combination of overall quality and player experience - great idea!

I think of it as scope and execution. Not perfect, but a lot more info than the usual single scale

Great review. I ignored most of the side content, apart from the museum and fire quest lines.

Did you hear those 2 quest lines were worth doing, or just get lucky?
