Neither excite me tbh, it seems nothing more than a step sideways. I'll hold out for something more I reckon. Great video btw - your channel is my favourite vr channel.
Since I got my first oculus (oculus go) I will never switch to any other company ever. The innovation in the go shocked me so hard, like many of you, my first vr headset was a phone cardboard without a controller and 3 years ago there were only phone cardboard or you had a lot of money and picked up a HTC vive. But there was no big provider who made standalone VR headsets. So I instantly picked up the go and a few months later I got my quest, and I can tell you I'm never going to switch to wired headsets ever again. The capabilities the quest has are so massive, I can play my favorite VR Games and pc VR games with just a USB cable connected to my pc. Awesome!
Im getting the quest. I have had my original vive for quite some time and I cannot stress how un-immersive the cords can be. Want to turn 180? Gotta throw a cord. Want to turn 360? Fat chance unless you want to rip a cord out of your PC. Want to play a game that requires constant turning around? Have fun getting untangled from that mess. For me, there are three important things that would make me get a new VR headset: 1. Cordless (as explained before) 2. No exterior cameras (can be a bitch and a half to set up, especially if you want to move it) 3. No headphones required (as far as im concerned, the quest comes with built in headset? Same explanation as before, can be very immersion breaking when your headset falls off.) The oculus quest fits all of these, no way i'm going back to cords.
I'm not a hardcore gamer, but would love to experience some and dip my feet into virtual reality. The quest seems like the perfect option. Thank you for this video!

@@yasu3d I'm pretty sure that is illegal, you could sue them for damages for not upholding the warranty, like what is the point of a warranty if companies don't even uphold it.
Keep in mind the quest has more screen door due to the oled panels. Strap is less comfortable but more compatible. Other than that it's pretty sweet especially since if your IPD is incompatible with the S, it's a no brainer due to the IPD adjustment. Then it comes to the question of HTC Vive vs Rift Quest which is a bit of a harder question to answer
@@mr_sn4k3s He says in the video that pixel density is better on the Rift S. Is this true or was it only because games were lowering resolution due to being played natively? So in other words, would a Quest connected to a pc now look better than a Rift S?
Same I've been debating it for days but now that reviews for the link beta are out and seem very positive I think i'm going for the Quest, the IPD can be pretty crucial considering a friend of mine had to return his because he couldn't focus on the rift S at all, show your VR to your friends and family is pretty cool too no doubt some wont have IPD's that fit the VR.
@@bruhtholemew I don't think it's the density, more the difference in the pixel layout due to the different panels since rift S has a lower resolution in total
I've always wanted a VR headset but since I dont have a PC I've never been able to get one, but now that we have the Oculus Quest it's a dream come true
The oculus quest for sure more affordable easy to use. Has almost same features as the Rift S. My Kid asked for the Quest two. This helps greatly for a smart informed purchase great tutorial.
For all of you that don't know wich one you want, Oculus is Launching Oculus Link, an update that will make Oculus Quest compatible with your PC powered VR games. You will be able to play Quest standalone and use your rig with a USB C cable, so, if you are not worried about the 72 fps, you should buy Quest instead of Rift S
Ya, but imagine GO optics on your Rift ! That's why I'm getting the S (and already sold my Rift). I might also sell my GO and get a Quest. Upgrades for everyone !
@@meowmix705 There's no IPD adjustment on the Go and the same applies to the rift S, and it is a LCD panel rather than OLED. Personally I would not be happy to use the same display and lens of the Oculus Go on the Rift S.
@@theduckyt9357 It's pretty good for RUclips. I agree, the games suck, and it is no where near as impressive as my oculus rift. The optics are an improvement, not sure about the LCD display. Not good in dark scenes and possibly not as bright as OLED. If the oculus rift s shares the same panel then I would be a little disappointed.
so for Christmas I got a gaming pc, and I wanted a vr headset and I almost got a quest clueless that I couldn’t play steam vr games on it. I’m glad that I saw this video.
The oculus quest fits best for me because it is a standalone. The rift S needs to be plugged in my computer, which idk if it is strong enough. Plus i don't have enough space for the rift S where i have my pc.
I sold my rift s for an quest and i.must say the difference ia pretty significant. The pannel difference is pretty small even though the quest has a more noticable screendoor effect but there is just no comparison in comfort. The rift s is way more comfortable and its way easier to hit the viewing sweetspot. Thats a huge difference if you trying to read or aim trough a scope. I used the rift s for 5h to play half life alyx without an issue but i have to put down the quest every 30 min because wearing hurts for long periods. Link is also not as good as everyone says, your hands feel like rubber while usesing it due to input delay. Honestly the rift is just a way better system if you cant wait till the gen 2. The game selection is also very limited for an $450 system
this video is a blessing, I made my decision to get a rift s rather than a quest for now, mostly due too quests lack of games, but the only thing that worried my was external tracking
Don't buy Rift S yet, hurry up and search for Oculus Link. Oculus Rift S games will be available on Quest officially, and you will be able to connect Quest to your PC too
@@nutcracker4694 Quest graphics will be the same if you use Oculus Link. You will be able to connect your Quest to your PC and play with the same graphic quality as Rift S, and also, you will be able to play standalone

You are so helpful. My parents ordered me a quest and I was freaking out thinking it needed a pc. I was also freaking out bc I thought it didn't work for a certain game I really wanted to play. I found out somewhere else that it does work on that game I wanted but I was still freaking out because I still thought it needed a pc. After watching this video I felt *so stupid* because I just cried for three days straight freaking out because of it. So I just wanted to say thank you for making this video.
BoomBamBoom Passtrough plus is already available and you can already turn the guardian off. Link will come in November as an open Beta, just like they announced it. :)
Try contacts I switched 3 years ago. A little getting used to but they’re great. Still keep your glasses around for when contacts are hard to wear that day
With Oculus Link now being a thing, I'd recommend buying the Quest. My experience with the Rift S was not good at all. There's tons of software, and hardware issues. I just can't recommend it.
What is oculus link? All I heard is like you can play steam games???? The only reason I want quest is because it’s better than ps vr obviously and I just wanted more access to games and I wanted to play bone works and Pavlov
Basically, the rift s has an 8 hz higher refresh rate, and relies on a pc. The quest has a higher resolution, has an oled panel, is getting an update for hand tracking,, will be getting access to the rift library (but some may not run on the standalone console, so will need a pc), can work as a standalone device, and will also be able to rely on a pc as well (in a future update).
They should have been the same thing. All in one Vr with 90hz refresh and connectable to PC for pcvr applications and quality. If they did that then it would have been a hit but as they are they are just more of the same. GG try again oculus.
That wouldn't be as easy as you think, the Quest has an on board computer, and doesn't leave much room for a connector port to a pc, since the rift s doesn't have this on board computer, there's a lot more room in the headset, which allows for a connector port, and also room for another tracking camera
Man I really want rift s but A gaming ox is not in my budget rn so I’ll have to go with quest as my first be headset which I’m fine with but I always wanted to play with the big boys 😂
In Late June 2020, I think it's safe to say the Quest is the better headset. I'm sorry for the Rift s hardcore fans but hear me out: Reason 1: Rift S has recently bricked the headset for a LOT OF people out there where your sensors can't track your headset due to a latest software update that messed it up. This doesn't happen to everyone but it happened to me... Reason 2: Oculus cares more about the Quest and have more support for it, don't believe me? Check their latest youtube videos. 90%of them are Oculus Quest related. This means a lot more features on the Quest such as Hand Tracking and Link. Reason 3: Oculus Link, if this was not a thing Rift S would be better, allows your Quest to turn into a Rift. Graphics are upped, and you can play with PC VR games. With that said, I think the Quest is better. More support, more features, and you basically own a Rift and Quest. On holidays take it where you want, and when you're at home plug it in. And of course this is all if you have a pc vr headset.
Heres a short answer: Oculus Quest cannot load most of VRChat's avatars. By most I mean alot. Custom avatar? Naah, you can't see that. Oculus Rift S does.
I recently played expert Beat Saber in London on Quest and had a better experience with tracking than at PAX (I think it was a better environment) I can’t play on expert+ so can’t comment on that []-/
I would say for hardcore VR players, a rift s. It will always be better then the quest since it’s powered by a PC, but for newcomers to VR, I would 100% recommend the quest. Easier to take places, and the feeling to be wireless is the best.
Ok so the rumour is, is that an update is coming to the quest that can link it to pc so would it be worth it to get the quest then since it could possibly do both?
But is it worth owning if i have an oculus go? I currently use my Go for streaming media atm but thats because its not capable enough for gaming, at least the games i want to play. The reason i ask is im off to uni with a somewhat cramped room without a gaming pc to hook up to, i would like personal time after all.
You mentioned the quest doesn’t accommodate for glasses but it does it includes a plastics spacers that you can put in between the padding and the headset which makes a gap big enough for use with glasses

QUEST GANG
Quest 2 gang
The quest has an extention for glasses that you can put behind the cussions against your face
For me, there are three important things that would make me get a new VR headset:
1. Cordless (as explained before)
2. No exterior cameras (can be a bitch and a half to set up, especially if you want to move it)
3. No headphones required (as far as im concerned, the quest comes with built in headset? Same explanation as before, can be very immersion breaking when your headset falls off.)
The oculus quest fits all of these, no way i'm going back to cords.
Cheers man! Enjoy the Quest []-)
but rift s has all of those except for cordless
As a single divorced dad the ill be getting 3 quests at some point to spend more time with my kids.
sad dude sad dude.
I'm not a hardcore gamer, but would love to experience some and dip my feet into virtual reality. The quest seems like the perfect option. Thank you for this video!
In my opinion the quest wins Because if you’re just starting out playing virtual reality games it really helps you to know what you’re doing
Thank you so fricking much for saying a be capable pc could cost upwards of $600. Most people I hear always say you need to spend at least $1000 for a good pc. Thank you for checking your facts and giving out proper information to the people who can afford PCs
i swear this video legit helped me so much thank you
Excited for Quest but doing fine with my Rift CV1
Lucky you. My CV1 Died 1 month after use and the tech shop where i got it from refused to repair it, even with warranty.
@@yasu3d I'm pretty sure that is illegal, you could sue them for damages for not upholding the warranty, like what is the point of a warranty if companies don't even uphold it.
AYY!!! Watching this during math class. Good video!!
This was an excellent review thank you!
Your presentation was truly amazing im a swedish person and i understanded everything you said
Nice video. You really did well in telling the differences between the two headsets. Good job.
Now with oculus link coming I'm stuck between the two. Had my mind set on the Rift S before the announcement of link.
Jake Maggs better for quest in my opinion because of the cable so it will become a portable rift s
Would’ve been great had they combined the two. Being able to plug it to PC when available. Or use onboard chip for mobile use.
I think the HTC Vive cosmos is gonna do that
@@Althadono That would be superb if they do. But HTC takes so long with their development.

Your dream has come true
lol this aged really well.
Saw that ready player one intro. Made me happy
Now that Quest link is out, I'd be interested in your take. Seems like Quest has more advantages overall, now.
theNecksLevel depends what your looking for, rift s still has better visual quality on the quest with link
Rift S still is the better PCVR hmd.
I have no idea what y’all are talking about.
I already have the rift and Go, but I will be buying the Quest.
I bought the go a while back and I certainly think that it’s best use is for watching RUclips / Netflix in VR. Not so good for games.
Super useful dude, I think I'm sold. Appreciate the video :)
so for Christmas I got a gaming pc, and I wanted a vr headset and I almost got a quest clueless that I couldn’t play steam vr games on it. I’m glad that I saw this video.
You can use Oculus Link

Oculus Rift S games will be available on Quest officially, and you will be able to connect Quest to your PC too
@@luispene7886 im planning to get the quest for my birthday, it seems the rift has better graphics and im not really a traveler

Damn, I wear glasses and really wanted the Quest. I don’t know how to get those prescription things for VR specifically.
Try contacts I switched 3 years ago. A little getting used to but they’re great. Still keep your glasses around for when contacts are hard to wear that day
MCR_Tactics I might. The application just seems so, rough? I’m not sure if that’s the word, but it doesn’t seem very smooth putting them in.
Erik Jorgensen Oh? That’s great then, thanks for informing me!
With Oculus Link now being a thing, I'd recommend buying the Quest. My experience with the Rift S was not good at all. There's tons of software, and hardware issues. I just can't recommend it.
LMV that's the answer to the question I was wondering, thx
What is oculus link? All I heard is like you can play steam games???? The only reason I want quest is because it’s better than ps vr obviously and I just wanted more access to games and I wanted to play bone works and Pavlov
Riding a helmet with a Bike on your head I don’t think that heavy games like bone works would be good for the quest
$600-800? NOPE $999
$399
Can’t wait to get both headsets. I plan to sell my Rift as I hate using and mounting sensors and using extension cables.
6:40 Quest link has joined the chat
Man I really want rift s but A gaming ox is not in my budget rn so I’ll have to go with quest as my first be headset which I’m fine with but I always wanted to play with the big boys 😂
One of my friends has the quest and I'm not gonna lie, its really really awesome. Not having wires to deal with is so nice
Just to make sure you’re aware, a vr ready pc can be had for $500-600.
In Late June 2020, I think it's safe to say the Quest is the better headset. I'm sorry for the Rift s hardcore fans but hear me out:
Reason 1: Rift S has recently bricked the headset for a LOT OF people out there where your sensors can't track your headset due to a latest software update that messed it up.
And of course this is all if you have a pc vr headset.
honestly, helped me out alot, i know imma go with the Quest now, so thanks for the review!!
Well the link is coming so we can play steam on the quest

I would say for hardcore VR players, a rift s. It will always be better then the quest since it’s powered by a PC, but for newcomers to VR, I would 100% recommend the quest. Easier to take places, and the feeling to be wireless is the best.
We want to know what we should get not just comparing and contrasting
Ok so the rumour is, is that an update is coming to the quest that can link it to pc so would it be worth it to get the quest then since it could possibly do both?
Yes and the oculus link just got confirmed, thus making the rift s kinda pointless
Also there would be hand tracking, allowing you to use your hands as a remote
