    This video shows exactly why two kittens are better than one. Our two Maine Coon kittens are from the same litter, so have a special bond. Hopefully, this will last throughout their lives! Watch how they play, sleep, playfight, explore together, and give each other comfort and security.

    We had a young female cat that we adopted who was, unbeknownst to us already pregnant! She then got tragically run over when the kittens were 5 weeks old. 3 boys. Miraculously our little dog spontaneously began producing milk and fed them until they were weaned! We couldn't bare to part with them and so we have them still at nearly 4 years old. They still think our dog is their mum lol.

    i got two kitten a month ago and it's great, they do keep each other entertained and learn from each other. One would scratch way too much (he would just have his claws out all the time for everything) but he's learned he doesn't need them out all the time now which means less scratches for me when he's done of me holding him and hes' scrambling to get down lol!
    definitely glad i got two, the only reason i wouldn't suggest two is maybe the expense- feeding for two, vets for two, and if you have indoor cats it'll be cat litter boxes for two (although you'll probably have three cat litter boxes!) and that cost adds up too. and .... ehhh.... cat toys for two 😆 but that's the only reason so far i wouldn't recommend two kittens in one go

    Yep, you're absolutely right, that's why I took two brothers. The place I got my cats from won't let anyone get a cat unless they take two or already have one or have a cat friendly dog, which I think is great. BTW, I have that same rainbow catnip toy, my cats love it. It's Yeowww right? That stuff is really good, I get them tubs of it. • @MaineCoonDaily
      @MaineCoonDaily  3 года назад +4

      Apart from the purchase price, you’ll need to double all other associated costs. Look at the price of food and litter, annual vaccinations, neutering if not already done, and also get insurance quotes. That way you’ll have an idea of what you can expect to spend every month. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Cats are social creatures so if you both go out a lot (work/shopping/socialising) having two kittens means they won’t be lonely. • @MaineCoonDaily
      @MaineCoonDaily  3 года назад +1

      It is a good idea as long as the next cat you adopt is also chilled out. Even then, a gradual introduction is best where you keep both cats separate and then let them smell things with each other's scents on, and do things such as feed them one each side of a closed door so they are aware of each other during a positive experience. Take a few weeks over this, it's worth it in the long run. Most shelters supply an introduction plan. Good luck!

      @@tommyle3989 Im supposed to pick up my second kitten today. It’s a female 13 week old kitten. The one I have already has only been here 3 days, but is fairly comfortable here and is safe with sleeping with me in my bed. He is a male, and 10 weeks old. I’m really nervous that the introduction is going to be a failure, since I already have a kitten who is only half comfortable.
      Should I place them in separate rooms, or should I let them meet eachother right away?

      Our last two cats shared one litter box for years with no problems. As you’re getting them both at the same time, they will share it I’m sure. Just keep on top of scooping it out 😸

It’s easy to scoop out and the persistent rain in the UK washes it clean - I may have to hose it in the summer though 😆

      We work at home now so haven't had to leave Fred and Oscar, but when we got Harry and Charlie in 2005 they were 4 and a half months. I had a week off work but then they were indoors alone from 8 till 6 most week days. We thoroughly cat-proofed the house and shut doors to certain areas until they were older. They seemed to cope and we gave them so much attention when we were home. But, of course every cat is different. I'd say, two are definitely better than one in this situation.

      @MaineCoonDaily  Год назад +1

      Even better, don’t buy from unregistered breeders, and don’t let cats wander unneutered as these actions will go a massive way towards lowering the number of poor kitties who heartbreakingly end up in shelters desperate for adoption in the first place. Fixing the root of the problem is always the best approach rather than fixing the result of the problem ❤️

    would you still recommend 2 if they are 3 years old (bonded pair) and its my first time owning a cat?

    • @MaineCoonDaily
      @MaineCoonDaily  3 года назад +4

      Hi Nate, The good thing about 3-year-old cats is if you meet them before committing, you can see what their personalities are like. As they are bonded, you should have no problems with adopting them as a pair and they will be easier to care for as they will keep each other amused some of the time. Good luck!

    Mmmm I adopted siblings for all these reasons but when they got to two years old the female started being horrible to her brother. Apparently this is common. It's great to encourage adoption of bonded rescues but not sure about kittens if you are planning to keep for a lifetime and especially with the extra stress & boredom of being kept indoors.

    • @MaineCoonDaily
      @MaineCoonDaily  2 года назад +1

      Oh, what a shame! Our two are brothers and at 18 months are still great friends. Our previous brothers got along for 15 years too. We have two girls who are not sisters but were raised together from the age of four months at a breeder's house and now they live happily with us. I think you're right that boredom may be a factor in causing mean behavior.

    • @kerstinrudolph7418
      @kerstinrudolph7418 2 года назад +1

      my experience is, that it's easier to take two of the same sex. All the male cats I had were more rough when playing and the girls got either very annoyed or scared of them. However I believe it's cruel for a kitten to be kept alone. I would always advise to take 2, especially if theyare kept indoors😊. If we are being honest, most people don't have much time to interact with their cats. they are probably away for the better part of the day and when they come home, there are still things to do like cleaning, cooking etc.... so if the interaction is more than 1h the cat can be considered lucky. Just imagine that the cat is alone for so long time.... Boredom is one of the main reasons why cats are getting destructive or start to urinate outside their litter boxes. yes, there are some cats, that don't accept company, but the majority of them are older and got used to be by themselves.
