Hi David - thanks so much for making this video! Atlantis was one of my favourite places on earth, swear down. And yeah, I remember going there around 2002 as well. Man I wish it was still around. Thanks again! Top work.
My sisters husband owned the military park there - they only moved off as were told it was about to be redeveloped - then nothing happened to the land.
Hi dave . You state on your video that the Atlantis water park closed in 1997, well in fact, it closed much later, because I took my girlfriend (now wife) and my cousin to Scarborough for the day, and went swimming in the waterpark in the summer of 2002. Paul.
Hi have you anymore pictures clips of this , went their in late 1980s I was 5 always remember the mountain slide to look at was amazing as a child , did it have plastic penguins about the park , lost my dad last week so thinking of of memories, thanks Ian
I loved this place as a child (I’m 35) so many happy memories of Atlantis. It’s such a shame it’s still just waste land (we went to North Bay at the weekend) and it saddened me to see that it’s still boarded up. Does anybody know what the plans are for the space? The UK is seriously missing an outdoor water park 😭😢
You are so right. I recall it being built and always asked to go but was never allowed as we were only ever in Scarborough for the day with loads of other things to do. It’s not the same without the Futurist theatre either. I saw many shows in there. I hate it when bits of my childhood memories are closed down and bulldozed. So many great times all shattered due to greedy corporations that are not willing to spend money on the upkeep of such great places. Shame on them.
I used to have regular holidays in Scarborough and a day in the North bay pool was something I looked forward to. The placed was always packed and can't believe it lost its popularity particularly after the slides were built. It's a shame that could not survive and is big miss to visitors and locals alike. It certainly took me back seeing the old film of the pool.
Hi Dave, nicely done , amazing to think that it beat USA for longest slide, I was so pleased to see the reporter go down it , she looked a beauty. What was her name.
I’ve had family in Scarbs most of my life.. drove and walked past this so many times don’t think I ever went in.. shame we lost it along with marvels and kinder land.. to anyone who rode the slides here.. were they fast? They look long but not very steep?
Used to go there in about 88,we,d fill a few cars up & drive from marske & spend all day there having a laugh & messing about, yeah the slides were brilliant. 👌👌
Discovered Waterscene in September '84 whilst on holiday. Such fun 💕
So cool!
My childhood memories is in their great times wish it was still there for my grandkids

Loved that place. Was there in 86 and 87 with the army cadets. The barracks were just about half a mile away. So much fun on those slides.
I learned to swim in this pool, it breaks my heart to see what a mess it looks now.
