He played the Undertaker in such a phenomenal way that it’s STILL weird seeing him playfully flipping people off and laughing, or even wiping hair out of his eyes. As an adult, you start to understand how every little movement and look was totally character-driven. He’s a true one of a kind legend and yet I feel he still doesn’t get the full credit for his storytelling and character evolution compared to other top guys. We basically had a larger than life Batman type character in real time for 30 years.

I don't know if it was Taker's or someone at Midway's idea to have his hair constantly covering his face, but it looks SO good in the game. It would never work in live wrestling, but it gives him such a menacing look in the game.
In most of takers squash matches he kept hair covering his face and you only saw during the pin with his eyes rolled back. Not seeing his face was part of the gimmick so I think midway ran with that

what is crazy about this, doing digital capture isn't exactly easy, yet it seems all these guys did it very naturally. They act in the ring, but are applying what they know to the capture studio. Also, I heard they did capture in 1994 for this, so this actually may be when Taker was out for several months.

taker was telling that dude how things work in a match, and the only thing that dude was telling undertaker was what the game people wanted him to do, he wasn't showing him the ropes in any way, in other words the gut would tell taker what action he wanted him to do ad taker would tell the guy how that action works in wrestling, i watched it with the sounds
Takes practice to learn to attack with proper combos in the game (a lot of button press memorization), but it's really well made, and a part of the Golden Era WWF. I've always had an interest in the development process, and this footage is an absolute treat! The guy directing is Sal Divita, who was Nightwolf, Sektor and Cyrax in MK3. I bet Divita would have fun stories about working with the WWF talent. We've already heard that Bret and Taker were great to work with, as they took the assignment very seriously, despite not having a clue about video games.

Little side note of useless knowledge, this video is probably one of the last where you see The Undertaker wearing his original attire, with the the grey gloves and boot slacks (not sure if that's the right term), before switching to purple which is actually what you see in the finished game. I'm assuming this was filmed in 1994 since the game was released in 1995. The Undertaker's last televised match in the grey was in January of 1994 (Royal Rumble). He took time off after that to treat an injury and when he returned in August of that year for Summer Slam, he was wearing the purple.

Really wish we could get a WWF arcade collection (maybe throw in some exclusive home console games too from the era) and also add some of this footage as extras.

Looks like DOS version is superior after Arcade. You can even change music there using Roland plugins.
