Guyser Skip: An Outer Wilds Speedrunning Tutorial

UPDATE: Since making this guide, a couple new alternate setups have been found which I will link below. The setup in this video is still the optimal one for PC.
This is my comprehensive guide on Guyser Skip. We use that spelling in honor of Just Some Guy, who discovered the trick. The setup in this video was created by thestrangepie (me) and Nepo. This setup works on any FOV setting, input device, or platform (to the best of my knowledge). All gameplay in this video was played on PC (1.1.11) by me. I recommend learning the new any% route seen here over the old route, even for beginners, as it is easier to learn and much faster. I have other videos covering the old route, which are at the end of my any% tutorial playlist. The old route (without the 2nd death, and with squat jump) loses 17 seconds in Any%. There are some alternate setups for Guyser Skip linked below. The second of these is faster when using an RNG geyser (which is currently banned but who knows what will happen in the future).
Note: In the video I explain how the 31 second eruption is the first one that can be used for guyser skip. This is the only eruption for which this specific setup will work because the other astral bodies such as the Attlerock affect you with their gravity. Using a different eruption for this trick will require a different setup.

Hello Thestrangepie, i cannot thank you enough because after two days of trying i finished my first run in 23min30 and just after i did my PB of 18min50,
Still have some skips to learn and a lot of room to improve but i'm already glad with this time :D

Why does the signalscope wiggle a bit in zoom mode? Even with keyboard and mouse it's super inconsistent

The trick isnt so precise that the signalscope wobble really matters. The lineup on the geyser rim introduces far more error than the signalscope lineups. Just get the signalscope as close as you can to the setup without spending too much time on it so you dont miss the geyser cycle

I used this skip while trying to get the ending on my first loop achievement. I wanted to get both guests to the campfire, so i went to the stranger and quantum moon and got through both of them, before returning to get the codes and start the loop. It seems like there's an issue with that though, in that Hornfels acts like he already gave me the codes. I don't quite know how to fix this, but if I figure it out I'll come back and tell you. For future reference though, try not to actually go into the stranger before getting the codes, i think

If you fly the ship before getting the launch codes that happens. You need to talk to Hornfels before piloting the ship. What you can do though is grab the suit without flying the ship, go talk to Hornfels, then go do whatever you want to do before the loop, then return and activate the statue

is this framerate dependant? I keep dying on 240

I know its like an year late, but this is the only any% guide I can find and this set up just does not stay consistent. Does holding W matter, or is it that Geysers just have RNG? Or maybe it's the little sway your signalscope does while aiming that causes it or something.

There are many things that could be giving you issues. If you are on console, the setup is slightly different. It has to be the 31 second eruption. Plus The QM can cause it to fail which is just rng. If you want more specific guidance I suggest joining the discord

I can reach to the top of the launch tower but I die every time. What should I do?

I got it, when jumping rng god have to smile to you and make you land on the railing aroumd the platform. That 5 cm height difference makes you survive the fall

@@filip380PL actually, it's not the height difference it's the fact that you land on a slight slope that makes you survive

It's been a year but I have the same problem, I tried it 15 times and got some really good landings but I've died every single time :c

it's probably that you have to take the first geyser that erupts

why cant i jump up the wall ive been slamming my head into the ridge for like 15 minutes and i even died to the campfire because i slipped off of slate more times than i can count
