Nick watching the Pirates of the Caribbean and seeing Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom and IMMEDIATELY googling bisexuality is actually just the bisexual experience. Pretty sure I did the same thing lol
Seriously, I had a conversation with a bi friend not 2 weeks before I watched the show where they told me Pirates was their bisexual awakening, tho for them it was Jack Sparrow and Keira Knightly. Yes, they are a disaster bisexual too.
When writing that scene (it wasn't in the graphic novel) Alice Oseman actually asked people on Twitter what movies made them realize they were bisexual. A bunch of people answered with Pirates of the Caribbean, that's why the scene plays out like that.
RE: Characters not just being their sexuality and being well-rounded people. I love that Tao as the 'token straight friend' is the single most extra drama queen of the show. It's such a small detail, but it fits in so nicely with how the show is subverting stereotypes and expectations left, right and centre.
My favorite little moment in this episode that I think flies under the radar is Nick's little smile at Darcy's "meddling gays" joke. Given his earlier gut discomfort at being publicly affectionate in the park, it would have been totally forgivable if he had himself another little panic at seeing himself called gay by another person, or tried to pipe up that he might actually be bi out of a knee-jerk avoidance of a label he's not comfortable with yet. But instead, he looks genuinely happy at being included and totally gets that Darcy is using "gay" as a catch-all term for their queer friend group. He's got a real team on his side that he can be totally himself with for probably the first time in his life, and the joy of that is so palpable. I just love it so much.
i’ve always thought that darcy was almost an example for nick, someone he seems to admire because she’s so unapologetically loud and proud about being queer, and you can tell that seeing her and tara means so much to him
@@cielxo Oh, totally! That look he has watching them have their first big public kiss at the party was so perfect and I think probably my overall fav moment from the show. Even Kit Connor has said that it was magical watching it happen on set and he didn't really have to act much, that was just his honest reaction to the lights and beauty and queer joy and knowing how much that scene will mean to so many kids. And Darcy herself is so fantastic. She has all the subtlety of a bulldozer, but I love that about her.
And seriously, as someone who was Bi, I also identify with the gay label. (Turns out I’m bisexual and am not bi romantic and so now identify as lesbian). I mean, as a catch all term among friends, that or Queer seems fine with me.
The art teacher said Charlie took ages to tell him he was being bullied and Charlie said he doesn't like to talk about things. Especially when they're hard converations to have. He'd also been seeing Ben for months but he didn't open up to the teacher about how his "boyfriend" was treating him til near the end of the "relationship". Even his sister didn't know anything about it until he broke up with Ben. So the more Tao made a fuss about Nick I think the harder it became for Charlie to tell him. It's hard to talk to people who've already made such a strong stance about their opinion of a person. Plus he mainly left it to Nick to tell people.
Well, I think Charlie left it to Nick to tell people because Nick is the one figuring himself out. Charlie would be outing Nick to Tao which, sure, is a trustworthy friend, but still is debatable if Charlie has the right to tell something so personal to someone else. That's why I think Charlie chose to give Nick the choice to tell people whenever he's ready.
I think part of it is also due to the fact that Charlie does value Tao and his opinion so very highly, and given how... _vocal_ Tao has been with his borderline hatred of Nick, it makes Charlie worry that he really is making a huge mistake even spending time with Nick. All that anxiety and negativity from the shitheads in his life telling him that he's stupid and worthless and all the rest, and the poor guy is clinging to happiness with all his might and he doesn't want to risk anything threatening that. He just doesn't yet know that his connection with Nick is so much stronger than all that bs.
The reason the representation feels so natural and authentic is because this show was made primarily by queer people, top to bottom (writer, director, most of the cast and crew, etc). The author of the original graphic novels wrote all the episodes too.
Charlie didn't leave Tao till last. Charlie didn't tell anyone. He's letting Nick tell the people he's comfortable telling. Nick told Tara, Darcy and Elle. Nick and Charlie have reason to be weary of Tao knowing.
@@ezequielmondada6427 yeah I found it cute but a little out of character that he told her. Maybe he caved because Nick came around a bunch and Tori was already super suspicious, likely to be supportive and unlikely to interact with Harry’s crowd. But Charlie’s def not at fault for keeping quiet on Nick’s (or his own) behalf, and I was surprised it was spun that way by multiple characters
@@kingfangs6693 it's a speculation/supposition by Aled , but it was never actually confirmed, and I think it is going to stay like that, for the rumor to be just that
I love the parallel with Ben and Nick highlighted in this episode. Ben was ashamed to be anywhere near him. Charlie just wanted someone who enjoyed his company. and now Nick talks about how he just likes being with him. It's just so great! I love these sweet boys!
I really like Ben character. I mean, he is a little shit but I also think that not accepting who you really are can get a toll on yourself and on the way you socialise. Ben is afraid people would reject him for who he is so he bullies and hurts other so that he himself can't get hurt. I never read the light novel but I hope that in future seasons they address this topic and get him some sort of redemption and acceptance. Yet again, he might just be a little shit
I love how this is so full circle. It's just what Charlie wished for in Episode 1 when asked by Tori what he wants. He says someone who just likes being with him.
@@PaiDiMat I don't think Ben, or even Harry, have much presence after this in the comic from what I've heard. But they're always adding new stuff for the series and Ben's role has already been expanded so I think we'll see more of them in the coming seasons. Maybe they will explore that aspect of him. Oh course, even if he does come to accept himself, Charlie's under no obligation to forgive what Ben put him through.
I like the little easter egg in this episode where all the characters run down te hall in the order of the LGBT acronym. Tao being the token cis, straight friend is last, of course xD
fun fact that i just... love - in order for them to use the pirates of the caribbean footage, they had to get approval from both keira knightley and orlando bloom. so like. i love the fact that they were asked "can we use footage of you for a queer show" and they went "YEP ABSOLUTELY APPROVAL FROM US"
I completely understand why Charlie finds it hard to tell Tao. I also wish that Tao would just look at Nick's face when he is watching Charlie at the concert because it's so obvious that Nick completely adores Charlie, no one would need to tell Tao anything!
The best moment would have been to just tell him "guess what!" When returning with the shakes. So he'd learn the same moment Elle would have. Then again, strictly taken, Charlie didn't tell anyone so far. It's all been Nick's initiative
@@ksal1 I know. Though the whole set up this time is different. Charlie and Nick never had this semi public moment during the sportsday in the comics. In the comics, Tao doesn't learn before Paris
@@82evene Yes, Tao, Elle, Tara and Darcy have all been given more prominent roles at an earlier point in the story in the TV adaptation. I think it generally works well (but we don't get the benefit of the backstory to fully understand Charlie's hesitance about telling Tao). I wonder how the double bed-sharing situation will be played out in the TV adaptation, seeing as Tao's lack of awareness of Charlie and Nick's relationship was the main reason of why they didn't get their preferred sleeping partner...
@@ksal1 yeah I'm curious about that too. But perhaps as its been semi public already the boys just feel uncomfortable with everyone to know or the teacher says something
I love the fact that a bi character is one of the most sympathetic in the show because the bi character is usually the least sympathetic in most stories,
"We found another one!" - I love Darcy. Gotta catch em all. And I absolutely love Charlie's happy dance. Tao's not so much, lol. Fantastic video. Great analysis and anecdotes and everything. ❤ 🏳️🌈
I saw something on Twitter that made me realise why Charlie didn't tell Tao about Nick and him before - and it makes perfect sense. Charlie doesn't tell him because it is not entirely his secret to tell. Meaning, yes, it's his relationship. However, by telling Tao he'd be also outing Nick, and that is something he can't do. Darcy and Tara know because Nick tells them, and Elle does because Nick mentions the triple date. Hence, in all instances it is Nick the one to come out, because it is his sexuality the one that is still being defined. From that perspective, it does make sense Tao doesn't know, as he hasn't been exactly friendly towards Nick and, well, he has a big mouth (and even when his intentions are pure, he can get into trouble). I do think Charlie should've talked with Nick about it, to get permission to tell Tao about them, but otherwise I get why Charlie didn't tell them, because ultimately he respected Nick and did not want to out him. Which, side note, (SMALL SPOILER) was why I disliked the scene where Elle tells Tao. I get why she does it, and I get she wants her group of friends to be okay, but it wasn't her secret to tell, and I didn't like she outed Nick, especially when he trusted her after knowing her for just a little bit.
@@kayisfish OMG, when he said it made him think of how much he wished his Nan had gotten to see it, and how he gets to be part of what he wishes he'd had at that age.....floods, just floods of tears.
I can't imagine my life without being gay. My best friend from kindergarten was gay. I've always been surrounded by gay or gay friendly people. My heart goes out to all of them who can't express themselves because of a religion, system or conviction that says that it's wrong to do so. Thank you for reviewing this lovely series. ❤️
Thank you for another great reaction and analysis of this fabulous series. Nick is also my favourite character and Kit Connor absolutely nails it. He is a fabulous actor and deserves some recognition. Joe Locke and him have a magical chemistry between them which makes their relationship so believable. Considering this is Joe's first professional acting role,he also deserves some kind of accolade too. I believe they have a good friendship off the screen . If you look at any of the interviews they give together there is a wonderful amount of mickey taking between them.. Can not wait for the next series!
13:35 your correction makes my little Bi/Pan heart so happy 🥰🏳️🌈✨ I also love that you explored how the experience to gay/lesbian versus bi/pan/poly/etc. people is very similar but there are layers that make it different in how much confusion there is when you like two or more genders. Within the lgbtqia+ community there can be a lotttt of erasure for our experience cause you’re not ‘gay/queer’ enough even though as you can see through Nick’s experience (as it mirrors a lot of our own) it’s really not. We are queer regardless and it’s something that took me a long time of people within the community telling me I’m not, to realize. Love Nick in this so much!!
as someone who strongly suppressed their "queerness" for over a decade, im so glad to see such open media. I have a friend who's 12 yr old son came out as BI recently and the fact that it was no big deal... was the BIGGEST deal to me. I hope that no one ever has to suppress themselves like i did. I'm so happy for every young person that can just be themselves.
Funny blooper that Kit Connors talked about. The first take on the "im definitely gay kissing you was the reason i found out i dont actually like kissing boys" Kit just like accidentally said "ouch" its really funny to think about
I'm really glad that Nick has finally found a group of friends who are good for him and who don't exist just to bully and torment people. He definitely needed this new friend group.
This episode was absolutely essential. Not only in Nick beginning to identify his sexuality but also, to establish the relationship dynamic (which is beautiful) between Darcy and Tara. Also the consequences of being completely "out" via social media to classmates. It isn't all rainbows and chocolate milkshakes. As for Tao, sigh, he is going to be so hurt... Lastly, once you are finished with the series, GET THE FIRST TWO BOOKS. They are amazing!
happy pride!! 🏳️🌈 also, thank you so much harry for reacting to this show. heartstopper has truly change my life, i have had such an incredibly easy time exploring myself after bingeing. now, i am not a member of the lgbtqia+ community, but as an ally, it’s great to be able to see these things casually announced on television. i’m so excited for the conformed season 2 and 3!! that’s all, have a great one!!
I actually love the show for showing straight ppl how weird some of their (surely meant nice) encouraging comments are. Like "I've never thought you to be lesbian." I mean, what makes her different now she is? What does a lesbian usually look like? Act like?
I love the fact that while Tara hadn't seen Nick in a while before coming out to him at Harry's birthday party, Nick feels enough trust to make her the first person other than Charlie that he comes out to. I think part of it is Nick being inspired by Tara telling him she's lesbian and then witnessing them kiss at Harry's party, it gives him that boost to work through his conflict regarding his sexuality and gives him confidence to tell them first, because he knows they'll get it and be understanding.
Also the fact it's easier for Nick to move away from his old friend group if he knows he has other friends like Tara and Darcy, and Elle that respect him for who he is. Apart from Tao being a bit combative still with Nick he still so smoothly integrated with Charlie's friend group during the bowling birthday party for Charlie.
Regarding how many minorities are represented, I read somewhere (so I could be wrong) that Isaac is aromantic and asexual, and Tori is asexual, and if that's the case, that covers SO MANY of the LGBTQ+ sexualities/identities
It can also be inferred by the information given in the show too. Cause in ep1 Charlie says his friends wouldn’t get it cause theyre not gay. And Tao describes himself as the ‘token straight friend’ - i personally took that to mean cishet. So that could make Isaac: bi, pan, ace or any other sexuality. But I think that since they Heartstopper is diverse in its characters I kinda came to the conclusion that Isaac was bi (and its canon in my head that Darcy is pan but idk)
It's so incredible how well they've managed to tell Nick's story in such a realistic way! It is so rare to see genuinely good bisexual representation, and this show truly made me feel so seen. Also, the fact that they included Pirates of the Caribbean is so funny to me cause I feel like it was the bisexual awakening for all the bi people of our generation 😂
19:55 God, I can relate. I came out 9 (NINE) years ago, I'm 23, and I still find it exhausting to admit that I'm gay. It's never ending, a continuous coming out to the next person you meet. And don't get me wrong, much like Tara I don't regret it at all, I'm very proud of what I did and why I did it, but there are days where I just want to hide underground and never talk to anyone again because my head decided that it wasn't ok being gay that day. I even cry about it, when the days are particularly hard (you know, very nice people saying very nice things and all that). It's so, so unfair, but I do find comfort in people like you, who I can relate to. And it's probably why I, as a grown ass man, develpoed such an attachment to this show, in particular to the cast. They're such brave, beautiful people, and even if they're so young they are not afraid to show their true colours on their own terms. They helped me for sure, but I know for a fact that they are going to save so many lives.
Also I really laughed watching your split-second delay in realizing what Nick was getting at with his "triple date" remark! hee hee I've been enjoying your thoughtful, engaged reactions to this show very much.
About Tao not knowing I just wanted to point out that CHARLIE HASN'T TOLD ANYONE. NICK told Tara and Darcy. Nick brought it up at the milkshakes with Elle. Isaac found out on his own. Tori found out on her own. Charlie never told anyone (except the teacher if you want to count that..) because he respects Nick not being sure. He would never tell anyone. Also, Tao already doesn't like Nick and he's SO dramatic and direct that could accidentally out Nick or whatever so obviously Charlie's not telling him even if they're best friend or whatever. That's all. Just wanted to point this out since no one (I've been watching reactions 24/7 thees past weeks) ever says that.
So many people make comments online without thinking about the damage that they're doing, and honestly, it seems like most of them wouldn't even care if they did know. The sense of entitlement to say whatever they want is truly astounding.
I've watched a few of these reaction videos and yours have been my absolute favourite, so thank you. You've reacted in the same way as me to most of the scenes and I really like your pauses and insights as well as the round ups at the end. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to eps 7 & 8.
It’s been so nice to get to know your channel through Heartstopper. Thank you for not only making me laugh and cheer along with you, but also so generously sharing about yourself + bits of wisdom. Your comments about your journey with certain words resonates so much and makes me feel a bit more normalized in my own experiences, while also hopeful. Just know that it has positive impact. Thanks again.
I was outed by my friend to the rest of our high school in my Sophomore year. She had convinced me it was for the best, even though I wasn't really sure, but I was afraid to really argue with her or make a bigger deal out of it after I had told her. The sorts of things I heard from other students afterwards, were sadly very much almost word for word the sort of remarks that Tara regrettably had to deal with in this episode. I hope that things have improved for queer youth these days, because its still a painful memory for me, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone else.
Addressing how well they represented diversity without it feeling forced: What I think this show does so well that I've only seen one or two reaction videos discuss in the vaguest way, is it shows the organic way that lasting friend groups are formed, especially among creatives and queer people. At a certain age, if you're mature enough, you start to find the group that has the most in common with you and it may not always be in school. And when you befriend one person within a group, you tend to befriend the whole group and then circles within circles start to form as you get older. It might just be because I'm from Rhode Island which has a very large per capita population of artists and other creatives, but since I was in my early 20's I've been part of a sort sort of radiating, yet branching, circle of friends. I'm not sure how to put it except as maybe a Venn diagram? And I suspect that this is something that is far more common among queer people/creatives then people with more conventional lifestyles. I think I'm meandering a bit now, but I hope I've sort of made my point.
Yours are easily the best reactions to Heartstopper out there, at least for me. ❤ Love, how deeply invested you are. Thanks for your genuine and heartfelt comments, your deep analyses, and above all for giving context to what is portrayed in the show. I really appreciate it and, being straight myself, find it very insightful (and heartbreaking). 🙏
18:55 that's so true. What helped me, kind of, was that since I live in a German speaking country I only heard the German words used that way growing up, not the English ones. So when I was first learning about the LGBTQ community and everything, which was on the internet (sadly not in school), it was all in English and I didn't really have those negative connotations for the English terms. And honestly that applies to anything regarding mental health too. To this day, "schwul" sounds worse to me than "gay", "Lesbe" worse than "lesbian", "Depression" worse than "depression" (yes I know they're spelled the same, they sound different though) etc. even though they literally mean the same thing. And funnily enough that works the other way around too. Curses and slurs sound worse to me in German, because I _did_ hear them used in a negative way growing up. There's just something about having the word "Schlampe" hurled at you before you even know what the word means that ingrains that word in your brain as something terrible, that reading the word "slut" in a textpost (and finally learning what the hell it means) just doesn't.
Thank you for your reactions and commentary, linking your experiences with the story and the characters. I also appreciate your commentary on the acting, particularly Kit Connor's. He is flawless, his facial expressions, and physical presence, makes it so real. He doesn't even need to speak. We all know what his Nick thinks and feels. That's why I love Heartstopper so much.
I do think its kind of interesting how gay people are drawn to each other, like my childhood best friend turned out to be bisexual and i turned out to be asexual/panromantic. Also when i went to a different school than her, she made a friend who also turned out being bisexual!
I mean that's what I love about this show, it's just teens going through life. Being part of a minority is a character trait not a personality, like Elle, she's just an amaizing friend, a fashionista and just so happens to be trans. Also hi from Mexico 🇲🇽 amaizing video.
My Year 9 tutor actually had a talk with us about this every subject about using the word “Gay” as a negative thing/ slur. She didn’t like it was being used in that way and basically it had to stop immediately
Harry! I just love your thoughtful reactions to these so much. Yours are definitely the most thoughtful ones I've seen around. Thank you for sharing them with us! 💖💜💙
I don't think that Tao is mainly insecure, I think he's immature. Most people are not as wise as Charlie and Nick. So having been in a perfect friend group, this would be his immediate response to something that may threaten the "balance". He also lived through Elle's changes, which he fully supported, also guided by Charlie's maturity. That struggle is over, and Tao was not ready to cope with another major change to their dynamics (maybe now on his own, without Charlie on his side). Changing is part of growing up, but not everyone is ready to deal with changes the best way. Mind that both his friends, Charlie and Elle, are incredibly mature, especially after having already learned so much about themselves. So sometimes people on social media accuse teens or even early 20s of being bad, for their decisions, which are bad, sure, but almost always due to immaturity... If we try to understand how someone thinks and where they come from, it's easier to understand... and maybe only call out their lack of experience or emotional maturity (a lot of people never get it without help). Accusations on the other hand, just cause more aggression and people to be even more defensive, to the point of just never growing up and becoming better people ...
I am 100% positive that there were people in high school that liked me that I had no idea about. For one thing, for a lot of the time, I either had a boyfriend (my future husband) or was pining for him (I'm Bi, btw but in a very long term relationship with a man so at this point it is mostly theoretical). I *know* my husband was oblivious to how many people liked him. He was bullied as a kid so didn't see himself as someone that would be pursued. I was so jealous of so many girls that liked him. I learned to stop being jealous by the time I graduated. But I feel bad for some boys I really liked that I was super friendly with that I may have accidentally friend-zoned (don't really like that term but I don't know how else to put it). Meanwhile, I had a really good girl friend that wound up coming out in her late 20's/early 30's, after we hadn't really seen her in a long time. She dated a *lot* of guys thru high school and after graduation. Anyway, this friend had some confused feelings around me and if she had expressed them I may have been open to exploration although I was really into my future husband. Funny thing is, i met this friend thru him because she was his *first* girlfriend. So there really can be drama in high school. :D
I think (and I will, if I remember, comment more about this in.... another episode for Reasons) Charlie couldn't fully feel confident telling Tao until he got Nick's blessing. That's why he didn't say Nick was his "boyfriend" in the last episode in the bathroom, though I think he clearly wanted to. He knows what it's like to be outed and until Nick told other people, I don't think Charlie was aware that Nick was okay with other people knowing. I also think that's why Nick hugs Charlie when he and Tao come out of the bathroom. He's grateful, imo, that Charlie kept his secret. (And, also, probably incredibly ashamed of making Charlie keep his secret and upset with himself for the whole Imogen thing to begin with.) I can't say what I hope/wish happens, since I've already watched, but I think you got Tao's character spot on about his insecurities.
I've been watching a ton of Heartstopper reaction videos (yeah I'm obsessed) and your reactions and very insightful observations are among the best I've seen here on RUclips. 👍
2 MORE SEASONS WOOOOOOOOOOO THIS IS MY 4TH COMMENT BECAUSE I HAVEN'T SEEN HEARTSTOPPER CONTENT IN A FEW DAYS AND ALL THE ENVY AND SEROTONIN AND DEPRESSION IS JUST PUSHING MY BRAIN OUT MY MOUTH OR HANDS IG
I'm not gonna lie you're really funny and everything you say is soooooooo accurate. You basically put words on everything I felt watching the show and it's so cool Thanks for making my last Thursday brighter with your account I discovered and this night even shinny because of your reactions : they are priceless
My bi awakening was Brendan and Rachel from the Mummy. I was in high school at the time and watched that movie like 100 times on VHS. My old time fave couple😍❤
Oh my god, The Mummy had so many beautiful main characters I can only imagine how that Movie could be responsible for someone's Bi awakening. For me, a gay man, Arnold Vosloo and Oded Fehr sealed the deal, one look at them and I was like YEP, men are it for me!
I don’t know if anyone has said this yet, but when Tori and Charlie are on the bus and Tori asked Charlie what his dream guy would be and he says someone who likes being with him and then cut this episode when Nick explicitly says he likes being with him. So cute they make me feel perpetually alone.
There are loads of reaction videos and I truly love watching yours. There's a thing that happens in the books with Tao and I think that's why they're are doing this arc with Tao and Charlie. I'm excited to see your finial two reactions.
I LOVE YOUR INSIGHTS AND REFLECTION 'BOUT THIS SHOW . I'VE SEEN A LOT OF REACTIONS FROM OTHER RUclipsRS SOME OF THEM ARE GOOD OTHERS A LITTLE BIT OVER THE SURFACE OR VICERAL. BUT YOUR REACTIONS ARE SORT OF MORE DEEP AND INTELIGENTS. I ENJOY IT SO MUCH THANK YOU
I'm sure someone said this a month ago but in the webcomic, it was Tao loudly talking in the hallway in Year 9 that originally outed Charlie, so that's part of what kept Charlie from telling him this news right away. It's not explored in the show, but that's okay I think, because Tao's outspoken opinions and volatile insecurities are enough to make it quite reasonable that Charlie would hesitate.
About the girls saying nasty stuff to Tara: "Who says that???" Girls at all girls school can be so vocal about this sometimes 🤣 I remember that at mine, 15 years ago, we had lgbt+ people come to our class and discuss issues with us. There was a questions period at the end, and… THIS GIRL. "Yeah I mean, I can understand gays. Men are pretty. But LESBIANS? They are so disgusting oh my god" My little bisexual heart will never forget this ever 😆
you just say ''girls at all girls school can be'' just coz of only ONE girl from ur school? ppl always generalize when it comes to women, women/girls are blah blah, too big subject🤮
*spoiler* in the books toa and elle do end up getting together. harry supports nick and charlie, it takes him awhile to get used to it but in the end he accepts them for who they are (in the nick and charlie book anyway)
I love this show, I wish it was about when I was 15/16, it certainly knows how to tug on the heartstrings and knows exactly the perfect moment for a hug or a kiss, I cannot wait for the second series.
I guess that girl wanted to say it was brave of Tara to come out but she sounded like she was telling her it was brave of her to be gay, which is way less cool.
Agreed. I think she was trying to be supportive, but she fumbled the delivery. Her expression and tone were much more positive and accepting than the other girls in that sequence. 🤔
In the same sense it’s nicks coming out and if Charlie told Tao it would literally out nick and Charlie knows what it’s like to be outed and he would never dream of outing nick unless Nick was ok about it
Love all your reactions so far. Re Charlie... another reactor pointed out that Charlie hasn't told anyone about him and Nick. Nick told Tara and Darcy, and then Elle at the milkshakes, and Isaac figured it out himself... so it's not as if Charlie told everyone except Tao. Still, having said that, if i was Tao, i would be heartbroken to be the last to know.
It's also important to note that Charlie would be hesitant to tell him, considering that Tao was the one who accidentally outed Charlie to the entire school.
@@bookswithike3256 He does, it's actually flipped in the series. The series doesn't exactly go in order, like Tao didn't find out about Nick and Charlie until the Paris trip. In the series he explains to Elle why he thinks Charlie was hesitant, basically confirming it.
Notice the room they are in when they say the door locks when it closes....the door is open outward from the room....in the later scene, the door is open into the room.
Thank you for talking about why using certain words as a pejorative and what that does to people who actually identify with that word. When my son was in high school, they would play ‘Smear the queer’. When I heard my son say that, I explained to him why it was so wrong to say that. And then I heard him playing outside with his friends and they want to play ‘Smear the queer’. I was so proud when I heard my son explain to his friends why they should change the name of the game. So for the rest of high school it became ‘attack the back’. Hopefully that’s why they still call it at that school.
22:49 YES! I agree completely that trope has been used so much that it's hard to watch. I'm so glad that the main character is already out and their sexuality isn't their only personality trait. It feels so natural like its just romance but the main cast is lgbtq
Listen. I stopped drawing my weirdcore creature thing to watch this. I NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER stop drawing to watch things. ONLY CERTAIN THINGS OR PEOPLE. So thats how you know that I would watch this video as many times as i feel like (thats alot)
I love so much this show, love your videos, reactions and feelings explainings 🥰 And really like your SLA sweatshirt 😊 So excited to see the next videos 😍
7:15 honestly I think that’s exactly what it’s about! When I was younger I was so disgusted with my own body that I found the idea of two women together absolutely revolting - however I would never say any of those thoughts aloud as I tried to keep an open mind and think each to their own but yes as a young teen my own body issues 100% reflected the way I viewed lesbians. This does not pardon their students behaviour in this scene in any way, but I just wanted to add this to the discussion as you’re perhaps the only reactor who has questioned where the attitudes come from. 19:00 also this is so important!! I worked as a substitute teacher at my old school few years back and once during a chilled crafts class the boys in the class (some ~14/15 year olds) were talking about something and throwing the word gay around as an insult, when I just randomly asked them what’s so wrong with being gay. They all looked at me really surprised because of this confrontation and went straight into the defensive mode saying there’s nothing wrong with being gay and how they had family members who are gay etc and then I questioned why they use gay as a negative term or an insult because if they continue to do that then the word will continue to have negative connotations. We actually had a really good conversation about the topic and if I managed to make even one of them double think their actions in the future then I’m super glad! At least in that moment it seemed that I really got through to them which may be sometimes difficult with teenage boys and it’s maybe one of my fondest memories from working as a substitute teacher. Anyways I love your reactions and how you take time to analyse and understand different character motivations, they’re always so on the nose!
A bunch of people answered with Pirates of the Caribbean, that's why the scene plays out like that.
can confirm
Yes! Me too! Orlando and Keira for me for sure.
Random person: "Why are you Bi?"
Me: * *Points at Keira and Orlando* *
RP: "Is that an example or a reason?"
Me: "Yes."
RE: Characters not just being their sexuality and being well-rounded people. I love that Tao as the 'token straight friend' is the single most extra drama queen of the show. It's such a small detail, but it fits in so nicely with how the show is subverting stereotypes and expectations left, right and centre.
Also, the deeply emotional nature of Charlie and Tao’s friendship that subverts the whole be cool around your male friends that you love as friends.
Oh that’s wonderful❤️ I haven’t thought about that before, thank you!!!🙏🏼😍
I thought the same the first time i saw it!
i’ve always thought that darcy was almost an example for nick, someone he seems to admire because she’s so unapologetically loud and proud about being queer, and you can tell that seeing her and tara means so much to him
@@cielxo Oh, totally!
@@GAleixo90 of course, but it can always be a mix of both for him.
@@GopherCakeStuff oh yeah, definitely
The author of the original graphic novels wrote all the episodes too.
and I love it
Nick: We thought it would be fun to go on a triple date.
Harry: Yeah... OH SHIT WAIT!
😅
That was such a cute moment
Loved that part!
Charlie didn't leave Tao till last. Charlie didn't tell anyone. He's letting Nick tell the people he's comfortable telling. Nick told Tara, Darcy and Elle. Nick and Charlie have reason to be weary of Tao knowing.
He kinda told Tori
@@ezequielmondada6427 yeah I found it cute but a little out of character that he told her. Maybe he caved because Nick came around a bunch and Tori was already super suspicious, likely to be supportive and unlikely to interact with Harry’s crowd. But Charlie’s def not at fault for keeping quiet on Nick’s (or his own) behalf, and I was surprised it was spun that way by multiple characters
Yeah, and in the comics it was Tao that accidently outed Charlie to the entire school.
@@kingfangs6693 it's a speculation/supposition by Aled , but it was never actually confirmed, and I think it is going to stay like that, for the rumor to be just that
@@ezequielmondada6427 The series literally confirms it though.
@@KnightRaymund absolutely agree with the last part of your comment. Charlie is free to forgive him or not forgive him
@@KnightRaymund Harry comes back at one point but yeah he's not the main cause for drama anymore
I like the little easter egg in this episode where all the characters run down te hall in the order of the LGBT acronym. Tao being the token cis, straight friend is last, of course xD
Omg yass
I just noticed that
fun fact that i just... love - in order for them to use the pirates of the caribbean footage, they had to get approval from both keira knightley and orlando bloom. so like. i love the fact that they were asked "can we use footage of you for a queer show" and they went "YEP ABSOLUTELY APPROVAL FROM US"
wow, that's cool :)
@@82evene In the comics, we learn that Tao was the one who inadvertently outed Charlie. Charlie doesn't want that to happen to Nick...
PoKeMoN gOtTa CaTcH eM AlLLlL.
Which, side note, (SMALL SPOILER)
was why I disliked the scene where Elle tells Tao. I get why she does it, and I get she wants her group of friends to be okay, but it wasn't her secret to tell, and I didn't like she outed Nick, especially when he trusted her after knowing her for just a little bit.
The RUclipsr in this episode is a real youtuber named Courtney-Jai and he is also reacting to this series.
watching him reacting to himself in the show was so special and emotional!
@@kayisfish OMG, when he said it made him think of how much he wished his Nan had gotten to see it, and how he gets to be part of what he wishes he'd had at that age.....floods, just floods of tears.
@@pratfallpratt8998 yes!!! I've watched his reaction a few times and every time...sobbing! How special!
As a Bisexual guy, it's absolutely amazing to have Nick as the most realistic Bisexual character I've ever seen on screen.
13:35 your correction makes my little Bi/Pan heart so happy 🥰🏳️🌈✨
I also love that you explored how the experience to gay/lesbian versus bi/pan/poly/etc. people is very similar but there are layers that make it different in how much confusion there is when you like two or more genders.
Love Nick in this so much!!
your shared realization of the date situation with Elle at 15:50 was so great, lmao
Not me waiting an entire week for this reaction. You're one of the best, Harry. Hugs from New York.
The gay scream and intense jealousy were appropriate reactions. Also, thanks for sharing your feeling/experience about the word "gay".
as someone who strongly suppressed their "queerness" for over a decade, im so glad to see such open media.
They are amazing!
i hate the fact that i KNOW you are gonna cry the next episode. it always makes me cry and i cant handle it well
happy pride!! 🏳️🌈
also, thank you so much harry for reacting to this show. heartstopper has truly change my life, i have had such an incredibly easy time exploring myself after bingeing. now, i am not a member of the lgbtqia+ community, but as an ally, it’s great to be able to see these things casually announced on television. i’m so excited for the conformed season 2 and 3!! that’s all, have a great one!!
Yes, those two scenes were so crucial to his own development and key to his seeking to work through his confusion at pace.
Regarding how many minorities are represented, I read somewhere (so I could be wrong) that Isaac is aromantic and asexual, and Tori is asexual, and if that's the case, that covers SO MANY of the LGBTQ+ sexualities/identities
Love your reviews! Your comments are always so well thought out and you are amazingly well-spoken. Also, Isaac is Ace/Aro (confirmed by the author).
19:55
God, I can relate.
Have to agree Kit Connor is such a great actor
When Tara said that she didn’t expect people to see her as a total different person since she came out, THAT HIT ME HARD
That is horrible. Hope you are doing well now.
The gay scream is everything. Loved it.
Harry where are episodes 7 and 8??
2:24 we also have aroace representation(Isaac) and ace representation(Tori)
i love the way nick smiles at charlie
There is ACE rep too!!! It’s been confirmed that Isaac is ace :3
You analyze the show so well and you pick up on a lot of things that other reactors don’t. It’s been so fun to watch your videos on this show!
Nick's search was foreshadowed in the first episode, in the smilely face scene, when he said, if you do my math problem, how will I learn?
i love that your reacting to this! this is such a cute series and i always get jealous watching it haah
Also because Tao was the one who accidentally outed Charlie to the entire school, so I can definitely understand Charlie's hesitancy.
I don’t think, however, that Nick knows Charlie’s waiting for his go ahead.
I've been watching a ton of Heartstopper reaction videos (yeah I'm obsessed) and your reactions and very insightful observations are among the best I've seen here on RUclips. 👍

I'm not gonna lie you're really funny and everything you say is soooooooo accurate. You basically put words on everything I felt watching the show and it's so cool

My bi awakening was Brendan and Rachel from the Mummy. I was in high school at the time and watched that movie like 100 times on VHS. My old time fave couple😍❤
Me too! I used to rewatch Rachel say, “I am a LIBRARIAN!” So many times and thought she was so cute! Haha.
Oh my god, The Mummy had so many beautiful main characters I can only imagine how that Movie could be responsible for someone's Bi awakening. For me, a gay man, Arnold Vosloo and Oded Fehr sealed the deal, one look at them and I was like YEP, men are it for me!
Please, I need your reactions to the next ones.
wait nooooo I wasn't ready to not have the two last episodes' reactionssss I was binging them noooo I dont wanna waittt😭
Love your reactions to Heartstopper lol. Funny, insightful, and adorable :)
About the girls saying nasty stuff to Tara: "Who says that???"
Girls at all girls school can be so vocal about this sometimes 🤣 I remember that at mine, 15 years ago, we had lgbt+ people come to our class and discuss issues with us. There was a questions period at the end, and… THIS GIRL.
"Yeah I mean, I can understand gays. Men are pretty. But LESBIANS? They are so disgusting oh my god"
My little bisexual heart will never forget this ever 😆
Wow that's crazy.
you just say ''girls at all girls school can be'' just coz of only ONE girl from ur school? ppl always generalize when it comes to women, women/girls are blah blah, too big subject🤮
@@nekoneko5777 ? Because I talked about this one time doesn't mean it only happened that one time, but ok. I hope you find peace sis, you seem angry
I just love your commentary. You seem so thoughtful and sweet. 😊
*spoiler* in the books toa and elle do end up getting together. harry supports nick and charlie, it takes him awhile to get used to it but in the end he accepts them for who they are (in the nick and charlie book anyway)
I love watching your reactions, Harry! You seem so intelligent and bring a great perspective :)
Never apologize for fanboy screams 😁
I love this show, I wish it was about when I was 15/16, it certainly knows how to tug on the heartstrings and knows exactly the perfect moment for a hug or a kiss, I cannot wait for the second series.
I dont think it was possible for Charlie to tell Tao before he became the last to know because he would have needed to out Nick to do it.
In the same sense it’s nicks coming out and if Charlie told Tao it would literally out nick and Charlie knows what it’s like to be outed and he would never dream of outing nick unless Nick was ok about it
I have seen this scene (10:55 ) so many times, yet I realized i was sitting here grinning like a dummy. It's such a perfect scene.
Been really enjoying your videos - looking forward to you doing Ep 7 and 8 :)
I'm bi and i understand all that he (Nick) feeling and all that shit the people talk to him, i understand too.
@@kingfangs6693 But Charlie doesn't know that. People need to stop saying this in reactors' comment sections because it's a spoiler for season 2.
@@bookswithike3256 He does, it's actually flipped in the series. The series doesn't exactly go in order, like Tao didn't find out about Nick and Charlie until the Paris trip. In the series he explains to Elle why he thinks Charlie was hesitant, basically confirming it.
@@kingfangs6693 No, he only implies it. It's intended as set-up for future storylines.
@@bookswithike3256 My point still stands, Charlie already knew in the series at this point, otherwise Tao wouldn't bring it up.
I stand by the fact Charlie and nick should’ve told Tao at the milkshake date
i disagree! “should’ve” is definitely not the word to use here plus people should come out when they are ready
@@curlyxcoco pretty much this, Charlie respected Nick's wishes. Nick only told the people he was comfortable telling
Notice the room they are in when they say the door locks when it closes....the door is open outward from the room....in the later scene, the door is open into the room.
15:51 and forward is probably one of my favorite reaction ever!
I love so much this show, love your videos, reactions and feelings explainings 🥰 And really like your SLA sweatshirt 😊
So excited to see the next videos 😍
Harry, you are such a lovely person ❤
I absolutely love your reactions
