    I love apple season! My husband and I work together to get it all done. We start out like you but cover the apples with more water. Then pour off water and it is like juice/cider! then run it through strainer (we cheat and use kitchen aid attachment) to make apple sauce or butter. Then all those peels and cores get put in a fermenting bucket and covered with water and a little sugar to speed up the process. Add an airlock and allow to ferment. After it gets good and boozy we strain out pulp and add a splash of Brags ACV and cover securely with a fly proof breathable material. Then wait patiently...soon we have lots of homemade vinegar!

    I didn’t know the Apple peeler/corer with clamp existed. I actually have the one with a suction cup and use it on a stainless steel island top. I’ve never had it release until I let it. Maybe it’s new hope for anyone who has the kind I do. Otherwise it is made like yours. I liked the other tool that separates the peel and seeds. That’s really a timesaver too!
    Great work! I’ve never done as many as you have at one time. Wow!
    I happened upon this older vlog on the tail of yesterday’s vlog about your holding pattern while waiting for the new baby boy. You’d think I was waiting for my grandson! I can’t wait to meet him. I am praying for a safe delivery for you and baby.

  • @PokerHillFarm

    I have an apple peeler/corer like that but mine has the suction cup- you wet the bottom of the cup and then stick it on the counter- I've had it 25 years and it works great. I use a steam juicer and get apple juice then run the pulp through my Squeezo. That way you get juice and delicious apple sauce :) Your applesauce looks wonderful

      @Brifromscratch  8 лет назад +1

      Another person commented that their counter top is granite and it works great on their counter as well. We have always used it on wood. I wonder if that is the difference? What is your counter made of ?

    I have yet one more excellent way to put up apples that also makes a great gift idea. Apple pies in a jar. Simply mix the sliced apples with the spices you use for pies, put them in your jars, seal, hot water bathe the correct time. When you wish to use them, line a pie pan with your crust, put the quart of apples in crust, place a crust or lattice crust on top and bake. Really makes great gifts.

    Art & Bri - You know how you say "happy heart" when one of your kids is grouchy? I tried this on my 4 year old and couldn't believe it. I asked him when he was getting grouchy yesterday, "do you want a happy heart or a sad heart?" and he said "happy heart" and his mood completely changed. Crazy. :)

    • @Brifromscratch
      @Brifromscratch  8 лет назад +10

      Yes! This in giving your kid a skill that he can use for his whole life! We fail at doing this perfectly consistently but strongly believe in it. Even if they choose to be grouchy, they know it was there choice and learn to not blame their situation or other people.

    Hi Bri, I wanted to comment on the Apple peeler. I bought mine twenty year's ago and it looks like yours except mine has the suction cup. I love mine it sticks to my counter top like it's superglued there. I never have a problem with my suction cup working properly. I use mine at least once a week starting from the first of October until my Apple's run out and that's usually about March,, I make an Apple pie once a week, usually on Saturday morning for Sunday's desert. Gotta have Apple pie a piece of sharp cheddar cheese and a cup of perked coffee. My favorite. Anyway back to the peeler, I think it may depend on the surface you were going to use it on. Thanks and take care.

    • @Brifromscratch

    I haven't read all the comments. But you might want to invest in a steam juicer. I just wash the apples, quarter and put in the top. You get apple juice out the bottom. Put the apples from top through my kitchenaid mill or you can use your hand one. Then I process my applesauce and juice at the same time. You can make jelly with this, do meat in the top and stock out the bottom. I love mine.

    When you want to sanitize your jars, instead of having the jars clanging around in the boiling water risking chipping...Use the canning rack that should have came with your canner. Put the jars upside down on the rack with a few inches of water to boil in the bottom of the canner, a shot of vinegar to keep the jars clean...put the cover on & in 20 minutes or so..Sterile jars! Also, after you cook the apples, dump or scoop them into a colander to drain before you foodmill them..That way you won't end up with soupy/watery applesauce. ;)

    When our twins were born we made all their baby food for them till they could eat real food. I had a family friend that was a peach farmer and one year we had so much rain that he was not able to tend the peaches the way they should have been so he let us come and get all the peaches we wanted. We are in SC btw so peaches are abundant here. Then my father in law has a few pear trees so we got a few 5 gal buckets of them too. We bought squash from the farmers market and a family member gave us green beans. We used a peeler just like the one you have to peel those pears and it worked perfect. Mine is the one with the suction cup though and I have never had an issue with it. Used it hundreds of times and I have had it going on 4 years now.

    Dehydrating apples: lay one old, clean sheet across the hood of a really old, red pickup truck; spread your cored apple slices all across, top with cheesecloth or another sheet, hold down in several places with medium sized rocks. wait. wait awhile longer. nope, Chuck Testa, wait some more. ok, they're done, bag 'em up and freeze 'em.

    Can I ask just one more thing? I haven’t watch all you videos so I don’t know if you do already but I’m a non experienced farmer looking for knowledge - could you please have more teaching type videos - thing to watch out for what to feed certain animals and how to care for them - and anything else farming -- thank you!!

    I think you might like a Victoria strainer. I love to do my apple sauce with that.
