This is actually my dad's Miata, his daily driver in the summer. My personal car is a White 2010 VW GTI. It was featured in the "Volkswagen GTI Stock vs. Magnaflow Exhaust" video a while back. I'll be uploading a POV Test Drive or possibly a track video on it soon! -Chris
This is just perfect. Easily the best POV Test Drive video you've done! I love that the car is dirty, it's not overly modified, and it just looks happy that it's being driven. I'd love to open my garage each morning and see this car happily awaiting me and our drive to work. (Not that I don't love my current Miata, it's just not daily driver material.) In any case, excellent video! And does anyone have any idea what kind of exhaust is on this car? It sounds fantastic, but not stock...
Thanks, we love Miatas at Winding Road! This is easily one of the most fun to drive cars I've been in. I believe the exhaust is stock. The rear window was unzipped while the top was up, that may have made it sound more aggressive from inside the car. -Chris
Love it guys! What a fun little car, this long weekend I will be driving my 2003 Honda S2000. This has to be my favorite video to come from you guys. Awesome!
It's pretty sad that to this day Mazda refuses to put roll bars on the Miata. So it's nice to see this vehicle owner had them put in. Many people have died in this car due to a lack of them..but nobody thinks or cares about that until it's too late. =(
Benjamin Didone Sorry..I should have made my comment more clear. The "roll-bars" on the current Miata's are not real roll-bars. They are cosmetic additions simply to make the car look safer and more in line with European convertibles that do take safety seriously. I was told this by a Mazda salesperson..but to make sure I contacted Mazda by telephone..and they confirmed that the "roll-bars" on current Miata's are purely cosmetic..both by phone and email..and that they serve no function nor could they offer any protection at all in a roll-over. If you know this and still buy the car..then fine. But many people like yourself don't know this because Mazda doesn't advertise this info..and people just assume they are real roll-bars..which is exactly what Mazda wants you to think. Deception is never a good trait for any company to have. =(
Benjamin Didone For the safety tests..they never roll the car over..so that's how Mazda probably get's away with it. Plus..I believe it's legal to make/sell a convertible in the USA without a roll-bar..because the Ford Mustand & Chevy Camaro don't have roll-bars as far as I know.
I believe the windshield is designed to act as the roll bar on convertibles. It needs to be able to support the weight of the car in the event of roll over
I love Mariner Blue on the early Miatas. Of all the cars I have ever driven, my friend's two Miatas (a 1995 and 2002) have been the most fun of anything I have ever driven. I love the balance, that awesome engine note, the great shifter and the low seating position that makes you feel like you are in a go-cart for big kids. I hope to buy a Miata for a fun car one day, preferably a 1st gen model.
22 years old, and that model still seems like just as much fun as the 2013 would be, I don't know this as fact, but it sure looked like it to me. Amazing little cars. Think I need one of these NA Miatas... affordable too!
Fun video. I have a 2001 second gen that is completely stock, with 146hp. Here in Switzerland, we have winding roads all over the place. We just don't the straight roads in your video. I have driven Porsche 924. 944, 944 turbo, Boxster, Audi RS4', VW Golf R, Lotus Turbo Élan, Jaguar E-type, Maserati Ghibli, Corvette, Mustang, and by far the most fun car to drive is the MX-5. Yes, the powerful cars are a giggle, but for pure raw simple fun, the MX-5 just delivers so much fun.
I have not driven a new one myself but I am sure it is still quite fun. It does look to be a bit heavier than the 1st and 2nd gen models though. One of the things that I thought gave the first two generations so much charm was their simplicity- they were very basic and only had what you needed for a great driving experience and a connected feeling to the car. My friend that owned a 1st and 2nd Gen model has driven a new one and I think he was pretty impressed with it.
I can't wait to get this as my first car!!!!!!!! My stepdad's family members only like American made cars, but I LOVE Japanese cars!! I also heard insurance for the miata is really cheap, and i have found many stick shift Miatas for sale for under 5,000!!! Yesterday i setup my checkings account and have a savings account, and i am going to put half of my money i earn in the savings account, until i save the money to buy a Mazda Miata First Generation! It is going to be awesome!
This is a great video! My blue 91 Miata is identical to yours. I can't get enough time in it... puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. For sheer driving fun there is no better car. What's your VIN?
Mine is a 1990 Canadian model, has no airbags or AC and wind up windows therefore is lighter. Still quick on the slalom track has taken me to Yellowstone, Alaska and Texas over the last few years
Headlights go up, headlights go down Headlights go up, headlights go down Again, again! Headlights go up, headlights go down Up, down, up, down, up, down! Updownupdownupdown!
I cant believe that a stock Miata sounds like this- very nice. I really see no need to change to an aftermarket option, unless there is something to make it sound DEEPER?
Woah I can even hear the wind whistle at the beginning of the video with my earphones as if I heard it with my own ears! :D What kind of microphone do you have there?
It is one of the best. $3k in your pocket will still net a stock 1.6L miata. $1k-$2k can piece together a turbokit and wind it out to 230WHP effectively putting it on par with a C5 corvette. In stock form, with the right maintenance(oil pumps every 150k...Do not make my mistake), they're 400k mile cars.
Hey I'm looking into buying a miata but I'm really excited. I have a couple of questions like What are some good websites ,how do I know there is no bad modification on it ? What services will I have to do when I get it ? Where under the car do I look for rust exactly ? Do you think I should by one as my first car ?is it safe to drive ?is it good for a college kid ?
***** hey man thanks for the information I'm sold into buying one . one more question ,so for the pre purchase inspection do I give them them the location of the car and they will tell me whether to buy or not ? but what if I buy it from craigslist how will that work ? will they go with me ? .
Quick question: would the MX-5 be good as a first daily driver? I'm looking at second-hand (used) cars now, and I'm looking at either a roadster, hatchback or wagon.
The cars are still inexpensive and fun, so it partly depends on how much the insurance would be for a 1st driver. Also, if you think there is a chance you'd be giving more than one friend a lift at a time, then this car isn't the best unless you live in India haha. I'd just recommend having a little bit of causion with the RWD too since a lot of people learn FWD. It's nothing to be scared of by any means, but you just have to consider it before you power out of a corner at first. It becomes natural quickly.
I´ve been offered a Red 1990 one for $3,000 but I think I can get it for $3,000...Good deal? The car is in good condition, including the paint. Videos like this make me want to get it :)
I have dreams of owning this car in this exact color. I would be extremely lucky to own this car in my lifetime. Automatic or manual I don't care, as long as its an NA and its bone stock, or at least only cosmetically modded or modded for quality of life improvements, which sadly these are being all souped up now.
+David Van Puijenbroek yes, this is sound with stock exhaust. Exhaust from factory is already sound enhanced. It is not overhelming fartcan, but pretty nice tone IMO.
im about to buy one this week but im not so sure cuz the engine have 200 000 km on it so im not sure ... do you think the car have no problem with 200 000 km ?
Ive owned this car fpr 3 months and probably the greatest purchase I have ever done :) cheap to run, agile and a whole lot of fun 10/10
I've owned mine for over 3 months and I'm finally getting it on the road after 3 months of trying to fix it lol
Best part is the no talking! I watched this vid twice and wished for Spring to come to MN.
ive watched this vid 5 times wishing i could get a Miata smh, people in Minnesota tryna get 10k for the 90s over 150k mile Miata

This has been my favorite RUclips video for years!

And does anyone have any idea what kind of exhaust is on this car? It sounds fantastic, but not stock...
I just bought a 1993 miata with 71k miles in perfect condition! for only 2800!
Josue Garcia I'll buy it for 3000 lol
SLarson lmao! after registering it and getting tags its like 3400
Josue Garcia thats a steal!
Zack Lewine Yea I know! It's been good to me so far. Hit 125mph today, I may start building it up to be a track car.
nice! :D
This was the very first video i watched of this channel and still been watching to this day
Thanks, we love Miatas at Winding Road! This is easily one of the most fun to drive cars I've been in. I believe the exhaust is stock. The rear window was unzipped while the top was up, that may have made it sound more aggressive from inside the car.

how is your honda
It's pretty sad that to this day Mazda refuses to put roll bars on the Miata. So it's nice to see this vehicle owner had them put in. Many people have died in this car due to a lack of them..but nobody thinks or cares about that until it's too late. =(
The new ones do, unless your referring to the NA and NB Miata.
Benjamin Didone Sorry..I should have made my comment more clear. The "roll-bars" on the current Miata's are not real roll-bars. They are cosmetic additions simply to make the car look safer and more in line with European convertibles that do take safety seriously. Nightbird Oh wow that is very unfortunate, i do not know how the car past safety standards

Damn, this sound quality is just amazing with earphones/headphones!
Yes.
Te amo Mazda MX-5 Miata
I love Mariner Blue on the early Miatas.

So much goodness in an NA6. This one is so fresh, crisp and original, and sounds so damn good! I want.
22 years old, and that model still seems like just as much fun as the 2013 would be, I don't know this as fact, but it sure looked like it to me. Amazing little cars. Think I need one of these NA Miatas... affordable too!
It's hard to believe that that car is 22 years old- Wow I feel old all of the sudden.
That little Miata is in great shape! I wish that I owned it!
Fun video. I have a 2001 second gen that is completely stock, with 146hp. Here in Switzerland, we have winding roads all over the place. We just don't the straight roads in your video. I have a '92 Smurf (love the Mariner) and clearly need to fix my exhaust leak because this sounds great.
Just when I thought your channel can't get any better, binaural microphones. Damn. I would subscribe twice if I could.
I come back in here every day to listen to that unique engine note ;)
Love that! And I loved the little oversteer moment you had too!
Nice Driving! I miss my Miata
This is the best one yet. It's so much more raw than all of those boring, automatic SUVs.
I'm heading into town this weekend to go look at a 1991 MX5 with 80,000 km on it, I'm so excited to see what they're like
Been there, done that. Search through our videos, there's a POV drive of a 2003 M3.
gosh darn love this car. just wish it was alittle bigger
I love that engine sound!
I love the POV driving videos! Nice NA! I have a NC my self, and I love it. I'm totally tossing the idea around of adding an NA to my stock!
pure pleasure to drive this one!
I can't wait to get this as my first car!!!!!!!! My stepdad's family members only like American made cars, but I LOVE Japanese cars!! Gj listening to feedback! I love the old car videos! Are you able to find my favourite car, a w124 e500/e60 Mercedes-Benz? The best car ever built! :D
Please could do another video in this car but on more interesting roads
Mine is a 1990 Canadian model, has no airbags or AC and wind up windows therefore is lighter.

I cant believe that a stock Miata sounds like this- very nice. I really see no need to change to an aftermarket option, unless there is something to make it sound DEEPER?
It even has the side striker latches! Great drive! :-)
What is the other car in the garage? I like your detached garage.....nice
Beautiful car ... and video ! Thanks !
I love Miata's. Used to have a 93 1.8l. Loved it.
Did your back end kick out at 2:29?
Like I was there amazing!
Woah I can even hear the wind whistle at the beginning of the video with my earphones as if I heard it with my own ears! :D
What kind of microphone do you have there?
I must ask, how did you get such a perfect camera placement? how is it placed relative to your eyes? Would a Gopro work for this?
Damn! I want this in my life as. And i would love an e30/e34 video too.
An 08 Pontiac G6 btw this makes me want to have a miata so bad now!
sounds nice. is it stock?
e36 or e30 POV? Also a fun classic
is the new Miata's handling worse than on the old models? or it's just the same fun to drive but with more tech inside?
Great car great sound jus gotta change those rims
Im after a 2007 one, I really can't wait. Dunno if I should get a 2.0 engine tho
For best experience, get AKG earphones. Those sound awesome.
Is this a good first car I'm just learning to drive stick
Civic Si is best, but this is also an option!
It is one of the best.
$3k in your pocket will still net a stock 1.6L miata. $1k-$2k can piece together a turbokit and wind it out to 230WHP effectively putting it on par with a C5 corvette.

How many miles on the miata
Plz make review for the 2014 mazda 6 ..
How tall are you?
I´ve been offered a Red 1990 one for $3,000 but I think I can get it for $3,000...Good deal? The car is in good condition, including the paint. Videos like this make me want to get it :)

What differential does it have?
Miata, for racer on the track or hill, awesome handling tho
Either a MX-5 or a MGF for 3.000€:
Your thoughts???
MX-5. Wouldn't count on the MGF's reliability and the MX-5 is pretty much indestructable.
thee Mitchi
Thank you!
+thee Mitchi No car is indestructible except Toyota.
Get the reference?
Hilux is love. Hilux is life.
Does it have a stock exhaust?
+David Van Puijenbroek yes, this is sound with stock exhaust. Exhaust from factory is already sound enhanced. It is not overhelming fartcan, but pretty nice tone IMO.
This sounds like a stock exhaust, my 1991 NA sounded identical..
im about to buy one this week but im not so sure cuz the engine have 200 000 km on it so im not sure ... do you think the car have no problem with 200 000 km ?

how many miles are on this
I think around 45,000 miles. -CA
1.6 or 1.8?
1.6
It goes well! I'm looking at getting one in a month or so, hopefully one comes up that needs a bit of TLC.
Good deal. Enjoy!
I'm sure I will!
Its pretty nippy. i thought it was a 1.8
