Beautiful model my Dad was a navigator on the real aircraft befour transferring to the B-52. Use to watch them for hours in my youth they had an unforgettable sound. Thanks!
My dad was a mechanic on the wasp major engines for this plane in the Air Force from 1953-1957. He would probably get very emotional just to see a model of it fly. Too bad he can't travel far enough to come see it fly! Regardless, I will share your video with him.
I flew on these magnificent Birds and still have my Form-5 showing 400+ hours. That was at Carswell AFB Fort Worth,TX. From 1956 until 58 when the last one lift for the Bone Yard. I was a tail Gunner in the 9th Bomb SQ/ 7 Bomb Wing, Convair was across the Runway. In 58 I upgraded to B-52's.
It's a B-36 Peacemaker built by Convair. They were the backbone of the USAF's Strategic Air Command intercontinental bomber fleet from 1949 - 1959, when they were supplanted by the Boeing B-52. A real one in action can be seen here on RUclips (clip title: Now that's a BOMBER). The B-36 was truly one of the most impressive aircraft ever to fly.
WOW ! _ I remember the B-36 well. I was in the first grade in school. They used to fly over where I lived. I'll never forget the sound it made. You could feel it as well as hear it. When I heard one coming, I'd run in the house and hide under my bed. - REALLY !
Beautiful RC Model. I'm old enough to remember seeing the real B-36 peacemakers fly over Brooklyn, New York during the mid 1950s, their sound was fantastic. This was the and last time I saw them in flight, as they we're soon replaced by the B-47 Strato-Fortress.
The normal flight path out of San Diego is west toward the ocean. Shortly after take-off, planes usually do a wide turn and head east. My dad said that there was one colonel who would make the turn particularly dramatically shortly after takeoff and you could read "USAF" across the top of the wings as he turned.
Hey guess what? I met a Capt, Moorhead in about 1958 or 59, he built a B 36 and toured throughout the AF,, I ran a film library at Biggs AFB, El Paso Texas, and he came in to see a news reel the AF made of his plane.. But this B36 is much neater, and of course that was a long time ago. Thanks for posting it.
the jet assist pods and I believe the last update on that aircraft was Boogie type landing gear not sure it was made here in San Diego my kindergarten sandbox was 1 of the surplus tires you could fit in Jacuzzi inside that tire . beautiful model thank you for sharing
Its years since I made model planes when digital proportional first came in It was all balsa and nylon in those days and a BIG model was six feet span ,.....What are these beautiful modern machines made of ? SCALE METAL IN WEIGHT ?? Someone please answer.
Only difference between a man and a boy, is the price of their toys. LOL I remember seeing these monsters flying over my house when I was a kid. It was unmistakable what it was when you heard it coming. I always went outside to watch them go over at about 30000 feet
sorry for the stupid question , but to slow down on landing do you reverse the pitch of the propellers or does the plane have some sort of braking on the wheels ?
Awesome. I have read the Air Force banned anyone from ever restoring any of the few remaining b36's in existence for the purpose of actual flight because of the complexities of the aircraft. Nice to see someone flying a model at least.
Six very reliable engines, and even the landing gear retracts and comes down slowly like the real thing ! it is unbelievable to find 77 thumbs down, what is wrong ???
@tubernation1 I dont know if you travel for RC at all but we have a huge show comming up in aug. you might get to see it fly live he has had it there the last 2 years that I have been there. we have had people come up all the way from Oklahoma ...
This is an early model B-36b which was not fitted with jet engines. Later models were. The "b" models were retrofitted with jet engines well after the Air Force began using the Peacemaker.
Woww, amazing! I have color slides of B-36s at Biggs AFB, El Paso, TX when my late retired colonel dad was "next door" at Ft. Bliss, El Paso, TX in 1950's. Are you planning to add 2-jet engine pods on each wing like they had on later versions of B-36 to keep up with higher speeds of jet tankers?
Nice landing and looks like a nice quick slip there... or was it the cross wind.... or both? How is the CG? seems a bit squirley, but really cool. The weight on the wings must make it tough. Good work.
That is an amazing aircraft! Even the landing gear retract. I wouldn't be surprised if it also had opening turret doors and bomb bay doors. Nice job!!!!
Beautiful model. Very scale on takeoff and in the turns. It looks a bit light in straight and level on flying. Maybe needs some expo to make it smoother?
@carlbachh I know you probley have people asking alot but if you are ever intrested in doing a set of interviews about your planes and some of the work that goes into those big builds I would love to do the film work... no cost to you of course... if not I totally understand.. have a good one carl look forward to seeing you at the show this year. I hope to see some thing new.
One thing wrong is it's not the one air force used regular because its missing the 4 jet engines at wingtips, put there when discovered it need more thrust, the prototype didn't have or the passenger variant
@maezland I am not sure if its missing the engines or if there were 2 different versions... knowing the builder it is prob 2 versions because he is big on doing things exactly to scale...
How much did it cost to build this puppy and how many man hours to build it? who ever build it done a very outstanding job on it. it climb rate is better then the real one.
Mike Mac interesting the poster I have of the B-36 in my garage there for 35 years does have them with the props and the Jets so that's what I thought.
People will dislike a video even though it has amazing content, just because it was done on a handheld camera ora phone something and bitch about the "videography", or some other technicality they couldn't even do themselves anyway. Everyone's a frikkin expert huh.
is the skin aluminum, and where in the world do you store something that big? not in the wives parking space in the garage? very cool video, is that as wide as the landing fields are? you know the concrete one, asking because that baby barely fits it? again very cool video
This was really cool!! I cant wait,. but maybe I will have to,.. to see a replica of the soviet Tupolev .. complete with the counter rotational blades... Possible in a model?????
I'm old enough to remember these flying overhead. No sound in the world like them. The ones I remember would have been based out of Fairchild AFB, near Spokane
What is the balance point on these B-36 models? On my regular models I go with 25% from the leading adge at the root, but being this is swept wing, I don't know where to put it. Lost a B-29 for the same reason.
That. Is. MIND BLOWING. All I can say to you is that you are a GIFTED PERSON building and flying this gorgeous machine. I know people have commented on the four J-47s that this one doesn't have. I was just wondering if you had considered upgrading and adding four actual turbines to this? I will tell you off the bat that I have never built, nor flown, R/C aircraft so I don't know how it would all work. Would the model turbines be too much for the props to keep up with? I'll tell you what, this aircraft is a MASTERPIECE of workmanship, but I cannot help but think of how much more impressive (if it's even possible to be more impressed than I already am, lol) it would be to add the four outrigger turbines to this beauty! Oh, how I wish I had the cabbage and the skill to be able to do this. My hatS are OFF to you, my man!
Well, certainly electric ducted fans have been considered. There are a couple of reasons why they were rejected. One, was that the length mounting pylons would make it very difficult to fly off of grass. They would have been ripped off in several previous flights. Two, is that it would have to become a B-36d which were all silver no red. These old eyes need the red to contrast when flying. Three, I'm way too cheap to install turbines even if it were doable.
Yeah, I hear you. I used to have 20/15 in one eye and 20/20 in the other. Now, I'd be lucky if I had 20/200 in both of them, lol! It stinks getting old, I tell ya! Still, this is absolutely beautiful and thank you for sharing!
Lucky is the guy who could build this, and also get the runway ! Awesome flying and build.
Beautiful model! I have always admired the skill, patience and time it takes to conceive, build and fly these planes. Kudos to you! Wonderful bird!
Jimmy Stewart would be proud. Nice B 36 model.
As awesome as this model is in every conceivable detail, the retractable landing gear blew my mind!
r
Beautiful model my Dad was a navigator on the real aircraft befour transferring to the B-52. Use to watch them for hours in my youth they had an unforgettable sound. Thanks!
I remember seeing and hearing the real B-36's flying over our house when I was growing up. I'll never forget the deep wail of their engines.
So do I from Loring AFB….
Congratulations on flying that airplane and what a superb model .
My dad was a mechanic on the wasp major engines for this plane in the Air Force from 1953-1957. He would probably get very emotional just to see a model of it fly. Too bad he can't travel far enough to come see it fly! Regardless, I will share your video with him.
Wonderful, an absolute gem, and brilliantly flown. A well earned congrats.
Justin Case Agreed! ... and that apoplectic kid in your image here thinks so too.
Liche Christ Thank you, he's a sad little begger, but I love him.
Wow, that is massive, excellent work, aviation history at its finest, beautiful indeed.
That is a quite magnificent model !!
Beautiful; model, tons of guts flying is such windy weather.. makes me want to get back into flying again.. thanks
Carl, awesome aircraft! She's lovely and it's flown superbly. Sincere thanks for posting this video.
Very picturesque. Congrats on a nice safe flight and a totally awesome build. Watch out for overstress on the airframe tho. Thanks, Paul Vne, a pilot.
I was impressed. That was beautiful! Very realistic ground-handling. Loved the landing gear action. Well flown too.
Vic M.
flies like a dream, great model looks superb
Thanks for building this plane and posting this video.
That is one gorgeous aircraft ...and in the proper hands looks like a million bucks in the air
That is a thing of beauty. Magnificent!

When I heard one coming, I'd run in the house and hide under my bed. - REALLY !
The only other airplane than a Russian Bear that you heard a long time before it got to you.
RC at it's finest.
A thing of true beauty. Lotta love & brains put into this.
awesome build, didnt even know this plane existed till i was deep in wiki one night, great build hats off. Dont stop building please
If you watch the move "Strategic Air Command" with Jimmy Stewart they have some nice footage of the B-36 in flight
That's gorgeous. You, sir, are an artist!
Beautiful RC Model. I'm old enough to remember seeing the real B-36 peacemakers fly over Brooklyn, New York during the mid 1950s, their sound was fantastic. This was the and last time I saw them in flight, as they we're soon replaced by the B-47 Strato-Fortress.
actually the b-47 was the stratojet the b-52 is the stratofortress

Magnesium Overcast....... This is the finest model plane i have ever seen.

Holly molley thats a monster of a model must of taken months to build if not years. love it.
It is a Convair B-36 Peacemaker. B designation is usually given to US Bombers.
the jet assist pods and I believe the last update on that aircraft was Boogie type landing gear not sure it was made here in San Diego my kindergarten sandbox was 1 of the surplus tires you could fit in Jacuzzi inside that tire . beautiful model thank you for sharing
Superb craftsmanship and superb airmanship.
If I had facilities like that, and funding, man I'd build planes like that all the time :D looks like a ton of fun! Fantastic model
Its years since I made model planes when digital proportional first came in It was all balsa and nylon in those days and a BIG model was six feet span ,.....What are these beautiful modern machines made of ? SCALE METAL IN WEIGHT ?? Someone please answer.
Excellent! Fantastic job!
Only difference between a man and a boy, is the price of their toys. LOL

Beautiful bird and great flying in those winds.
I liked the audio at the end of the video. You could almost hear a radial rumble.
Awesome. I have read the Air Force banned anyone from ever restoring any of the few remaining b36's in existence for the purpose of actual flight because of the complexities of the aircraft. Nice to see someone flying a model at least.
Man I know it's an earlier model and all but I wish this thing had jets! It would have made the cool factor go off the charts!
A magnificent model!
Wow. Beautiful plane. Was it real windy? The plane doesn't appear very stable. Awesome plane and nice landing.
Congratulations - what a piece of art !
An ideal plane for a FPV cam. Thanks for sharing, loved it.
Very nice and unusual,a lot of time and effort must have went into building such a monster.Nice fling all the best David.
Six very reliable engines, and even the landing gear retracts and comes down slowly like the real thing ! it is unbelievable to find 77 thumbs down, what is wrong ???

@carlbachh hey thanks carl.. you going to be at the SMMAC show again this year??
Nice landing and looks like a nice quick slip there... or was it the cross wind.... or both? How is the CG? seems a bit squirley, but really cool. The weight on the wings must make it tough. Good work.
That is an amazing aircraft! Even the landing gear retract. I wouldn't be surprised if it also had opening turret doors and bomb bay doors. Nice job!!!!
It's an American B-36. You're right that it was an early cold war bomber. Later versions had 4 jet engines in addition to the 6 piston engines.
Sounds lovely even on the pc...great project to build..Its from scratch?
What Squadron Patch is on the plane is it from the 42nd Bombardment Wing (Heavy) at Loring Air Force Base in Maine??
Wow that was the best RC landing I think I've ever seen!!
How long can it stay up? Mr. Kim of North Corea is most interested in your recent technological breakthrough.
Beautiful model. Very scale on takeoff and in the turns. It looks a bit light in straight and level on flying. Maybe needs some expo to make it smoother?
Great job all around!
I have often wondered ... on multi engine planes is it hard to synchronize all those motors ???
You're welcome. I love talking about history and these old warbirds.
THAT is really neat, what would all the parts cost to build it from scratch. great video and great plane. RH DSD
Looks great. Do the engines run cool enough? A hobby shop in San Diego had a control line B-36 powered by six .19 engines.
@carlbachh I know you probley have people asking alot but if you are ever intrested in doing a set of interviews about your planes and some of the work that goes into those big builds I would love to do the film work... no cost to you of course... if not I totally understand.. have a good one carl look forward to seeing you at the show this year. Beautiful plane, Great job.
Thanks Brian. See ya soon.
@jakebeer91 It's simple rudder yaw. It does not need "gyros" in the tail.
How much did it cost to build this puppy and how many man hours to build it? who ever build it done a very outstanding job on it.
it climb rate is better then the real one.
THAT'S A GREAT MODEL, FANTASTIC
Gorgeous aircraft.
67 DISLIKES? IS 19 FT TOO JUST NOT LARGE ENOUGH? Nice job on the plane, very impressive!
LARRY L probably because the jet engines are missing like on a real 36
Firemanfood 1998 - Early planes didn't have them. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5c/B-36aarrivalcarswell1948.jpg
Mike Mac interesting the poster I have of the B-36 in my garage there for 35 years does have them with the props and the Jets so that's what I thought.
First ones were just 6 turnin. Then came the 6 turnin and 4 burnin. Unless they had an inflight fire which these planes were known for.
People will dislike a video even though it has amazing content, just because it was done on a handheld camera ora phone something and bitch about the "videography", or some other technicality they couldn't even do themselves anyway. Everyone's a frikkin expert huh.
JUST ABSOL. BEAUTIFUL !!!
@DavidRossThompson that would be cool to see .. thanks for watching
Rough take-off, but nice flight pattern. How long did it take to build?
Mega! Perfect landing!
All the B-36 Peacemakers were pushers without jet engines. The Jet pods were later retrofitted to the wings to increase range and take off capacity :)
VERY impressive!
is the skin aluminum, and where in the world do you store something that big? not in the wives parking space in the garage? very cool video, is that as wide as the landing fields are? you know the concrete one, asking because that baby barely fits it? again very cool video
This was really cool!! I cant wait,. but maybe I will have to,.. to see a replica of the soviet Tupolev .. complete with the counter rotational blades... Possible in a model?????
Is there a plan on making this available to a company like precision cut kits so that others can purchase a kit and plans for it?
Lovely plane and beautiful to look at. Sounds like a swarm of bees in a jar. Good job. 5*.
This particular early series model "b" did not have jets added.
Beyond fantastic...Well done...!
I'm old enough to remember these flying overhead. No sound in the world like them. The ones I remember would have been based out of Fairchild AFB, near Spokane
Badass! So. Cool. Love the retractable LG!
WOW - Stunning, gorgeous BIG airplane! LOVE IT. Nice smooth landing, too. Though it looked like he had to force it down a bit.
Love this plane! ty!
So pretty much a bad ass plane that looks terrific.
What is the balance point on these B-36 models? On my regular models I go with 25% from the leading adge at the root, but being this is swept wing, I don't know where to put it. Lost a B-29 for the same reason.
It has a lot more power than the original full scale aircraft!
Beautiful all around.

Beautiful job Carl.
the B-36 is a Korean era bomber, and is the last prop bomber we flew. JATO though (which seems to be missing on this model)
Very Nice! Smooth landing
I fly at this airfield & I see a lot of videos on it! I just didn't think it was this popular
You went whole hog with that beauty ! You know you want to add the two double jets on the wing ends . Do it ! lol
