Tipp: What helped me the most: Every monday morning i draw a chart at a whiteboard next to my my desk with three chart colums: "learn," "game," and "sport" where i mark all the time, that is spend there. By sunday evening the "game" part needs to be smaller then the "learn" and "sport." This also helps against playing boring farming games where you just waste your time grinding, because you realise how valuable your free gaming time is and you play fun games instead. :)
Hello! I am a high school student now, and I do something like that - I only play on weekends, and after I've done everything I planned to do on a particular day :) But your tips may be helpful when i graduate :D Also, I have to study for my exams now, so im going to play only 1 day / week and only few hours. But yeah, it needs some willpower to study or do other, creative stuff alone when knowing that your friends play LoL or WoW ( I am really into online gaming ). Anyway, thanks for a great video and have a nice day! :D
I made a dedicated desk in my living room for gaming and entertainment, the one in my bedroom I use for everything that I consider productive, that made me have the most productive day of my life lol
Tip number one and I think this is probably the most important tip in the entire video , which is why it's going first. It's to simply set up an environment for studying that is only for studying. Tip number two is to increase the friction involved into getting into a video game. Tip third is to simply game after you're done working for the day. I started playing video games again recently after a few years of not playing that much... and it sucks... I always had an unhealthy relationship with gaming, I'd used to play so much and now I relapsing into that habit (one factor is the pandemic) and I became lazy. However, I set myself to only play after I did my university work... but then I really play for HOURS. After I wake up tomorrow I'll try to limit my access to just 1h per day. Thanks for suggesting apps like StayFocused, I'll try it out tomorrow!
How am I supposed to play my daily 5 hours a day if I'm failing my classes and I come home at 5 pm and have to study for 3 hours and wake up at 6:30 am?
You know how random encounter events happen in games? Happened to randomly encounter this video which has greatly helped me for my main quest line in life! Guess all that side tracking lead me somewhere I suppose.
Before going to college, I was playing video game but not daily. But since I began my studies at college I spent more time playing video game rather than studying or writing assignments. On top of that my mom pays the college fees. I have lost control over my life from being addicted to video games, even I uninstall the games, I cant even finish a week without re-installing them and download the new ones (games). what worries me is that, this is my opportunity to make my life better but I keep ruining it due to my addiction in video games. This issue makes me to hate my life and my existence in general. the worst part I'm on my third year in college, even though I do manage to pass my grades are always around 60%. since I become a college student, I cant even do good with my grades in every semester at times when writing or studying for my upcoming tests/examination I sometimes thinking of ceasing myself from living. i have failed once when I was younger
My problem is I dont WANT to QUIT video games but I dont want to become LAZY after playing. So I will go to the gym, read a book and meditate after all that I will play a little.
I migrated to MOBA...its pretty time saving cause you basically don't want to play it too often because if you play it too often you might find yourself in a low rank and one match is pretty long gameplay and with just one match i found it very satisfying and after that i can get back to my homeworks
Problem is i only love 120hour jrpgs, but my schedule is gonna be tight. 2 hrs in those games feel like nothing most of the time. Talking bout you, zelda botw!
Haha, I have the same issue you do! I never play games during the semester since I'm always doing work. I also tend to stop myself from playing them because I think I'll waste time. I could save gaming for when I take a break, but who can actually play just a half hour of Fallout? (Not me!) ...so I just end up watching Let's Plays.
Tori Sinanan that's pretty much me! Though I tend to watch review-style channels like Caddicarus, PBG, etc instead of Let's Plays. But lately I've been making an effort to actually play games, which is actually working pretty well! I just make plans to play them, which makes me work faster during the day.
A new thing I do is reward myself for things I get done. for example, when I come home from work, I game for twenty minutes and then do school for hours. A good twenty minutes of witcher helps me get through four hours of studying.
I use to play games always after doing my work, now when I play games after working my parents say: “HEY, YOURE GONNA FORGET WHAT YOU JUST LEARNED IF YOU PLAY VIDEO GAMES AFTER” and then I can’t play video games from Monday-Saturday ;~; unless it’s summer holidays but I have 5 minutes everyday
Wow I did not think such a video would exist on you tube, rare nowadays. Very informational video my friend, make more please, subbed. I am a gamer too^^
Great videos! you made me subscribe to your channel. I also play games in the same computer where I use for study but the problem is, I really get sleepy whenever I study for exams. To counter this, I play games to counter my sleepiness and then study after a...let's say maybe a 45 min. match in DOTA 2. Now the problem is I don't get to study for the exams either because I accidentally fall asleep or because I waste my time playing games staying awake. Any tips to counter this sleepiness problem? I would also love if you could make a videos regarding all-nighter or countering sleepiness when studying. Thank you so much for the videos!
I am now leaving all gaming. It wasn't something I did before, and I recently started playing them when I built my PC in March 2017. Rainbow six and Battlefield 1 took most of my time i.e 970 hours on r6 and about 307 hours on battlefield 1. My friends keep suggesting games to me, however, every game I play is very boring to me. Now the games that I do play have gotten boring and every time I play them I feel like a shit person for not being productive. So as of tonight before Fall semester starts on the 20th I shall not be playing games. Unfortunately, in CS and my program I.T. pretty much everyone plays games. So I will have to find another topic to relate to people on. Besides common field of study that is.
This is about balancing both, not leaving. Well, that's your problem if the games you play are boring, not the games themselves..literally, games are meant to be fun. Also, no, playing games don't automatically make you unproductive person, idk why do you think they aren't productive when that's not true, actually, if you keep things balanced, games can give you numerous positive benefits. Wdym unfortunately in CS and I.T. everyone plays games? That's not a problem, it's their ways to have fun & relax time
thanks for the video man! very helpful as always. Gonna be playing some street fighter or Pokemon emerald on my phone! That habitRPG thing reminded me of Pokemon somehow lol, it's awesome though started using it a few days ago.
Dreadkicks1 awesome! Yeah, HabitRPG does have a couple pokemon elements, though I'd compare it more to a traditional, party-based RPG like Golden Sun or Dragon Warrior.
I'm in grade 8, and I'm learning a lot from your videos. If you have the time, can you give us students in middle school or high school advice on how to be prepared for high school or college. Making a video would be great, thanks man!
I really like games, it makes me feel good. But I can't find a balance of time: for example, sometimes I can work too hard almost without games, but then I feel that I am too much focused at "useful" things, and forget about useless but fun. Otherwise, sometimes I can play too much and do just a few work. So how correspond in your schedule useful things (work, useful hobbies) and useless but relaxing (chatting with a friends, games, etc.) Maybe you have an approximate percentage division?
I'm a student studying electrical and electronic engineering. I've started my year recently and before that, i deleted all the games on my pc. Now if i have the urge to game (after i finish working), then i just play around with my arduino and make electronics projects
How to get things that you want as a child: Lets just say you dont have a phone and you really wanted it but your parents wouldnt allow you to get. So you need to use their phone as long and as much as possible so either they think buying you a phone is a good idea or being punished or even worse by thinking phones are bad for you
It’s crazy on the fact that nearly 210 THOUSAND ppl have watched this because they can control themself I am sadly one of them, but I earn money so I ain’t complaining….besides my grade…
How can I not listen to your advice after using a battlefront 2 clip? In all seriousness though, this is some good advice and seeing as I spent 12 hours gaming instead of studying for a test, (that I failed) I'll defiantly have to give these tips a try.

Would love chatting with you you seem soo interesting, I have chatted with fellow students (physics to be precise) about you in our university dining room we love you! x
Hey any tips on controlling mobile gaming. I’ve kinda have indulged in hardcore gaming on my iPad. For example Shadowverse, Granblue Fantasy, Fate Grand Order, and more. PLEASE HELP ME. They seem to interfere with college.
How about the opposite? I am so inclined towards work that I barely have any play. Besides, I even have a problem defining "play". Could studying drawing and/or music be considered play? During my free time I end up just studying more. Is that healthy?
I share my room with my brother so there's no much space and I just can't study in another room because my parents are split in remaining rooms, so I can't stay focused if I am not in my room in which I do everything.
Great tips! I'm definitely gonna use some of these! Though I wonder if you can spell out what the app (that you mentioned before habitRPG) is called. I can't really hear what you say there... (I guess I'm not that good at english)

I'm a student studying electrical and electronic engineering. I've started my year recently and before that, i deleted all the games on my pc. Now if i have the urge to game (after i finish working), then i just play around with my arduino and make electronics projects
How to get things that you want as a child:
Lets just say you dont have a phone and you really wanted it but your parents wouldnt allow you to get. So you need to use their phone as long and as much as possible so either they think buying you a phone is a good idea or being punished or even worse by thinking phones are bad for you
Nice video!
imevano21 glad you enjoyed it!
You saved my life Thomas Frank B-)
Tired of listening:
"FOOD COMPANIES COMMIT ONE OF THE BIGGEST SINS IN THE WORLD TODAY...."
Connor Riley I do love me some BF2. Hopefully you'll be able to balance the studying and gaming better for the next test! :)
Hey Thomas I am currently studying Plato, I am wondering, would you consider him to be the first philosopher? What are your thoughts on these old-school philosophers? My name is Andrea (dad's account), I am a Spanish 23 year old neuroscience graduate (uni of manchester, really great) currently studying a neuroscience masters in UMH in Spain while studying a humanities degree. Would love chatting with you you seem soo interesting, I have chatted with fellow students (physics to be precise) about you in our university dining room we love you! x
Im just trying to know how to balance my soon to be gaming channel n school work this vid helped ig
Wow i have a limited amount of time to play games and alot of studying but parents think i am addicted to playing games

Thanks man
I really like the “gaming as reward” tip
If you’re in the school: 100% SUCK
If your in house: *100% FREEDOM*
Hey any tips on controlling mobile gaming. I’ve kinda have indulged in hardcore gaming on my iPad. For example Shadowverse, Granblue Fantasy, Fate Grand Order, and more. PLEASE HELP ME. They seem to interfere with college.
How about the opposite? I am so inclined towards work that I barely have any play. Besides, I even have a problem defining "play". Could studying drawing and/or music be considered play? During my free time I end up just studying more. Is that healthy?
My main problem is that I just don't find being able to play games as a reward when I do my work
I share my room with my brother so there's no much space and I just can't study in another room because my parents are split in remaining rooms, so I can't stay focused if I am not in my room in which I do everything.
nice vid and nice advices to take
I like survival and historic military games!
Great tips! I'm definitely gonna use some of these! Though I wonder if you can spell out what the app (that you mentioned before habitRPG) is called. I can't really hear what you say there... (I guess I'm not that good at english)
reklem2 Fitocracy! I used to use it all the time; it's awesome for gaining motivation to work out. Also, I try to link to all the resources I mention in each video's companion blog post - here's the one for this video: collegeinfogeek.com/balance-video-games-and-studying/
