I've driven trucks for a long, long, long time...everything from a Chevy 2500, to a Ram 3500, to a Ford F150. They all have the same ride IF you reference a frame on body. My wife recently bought a Ridgeline, and, I am in LOVE. I didn't know what smooth ride was until I sat in this TRUCK!!!

The vast majority of off road capable truck owners do not take them routinely off road, if I can generalize here, they buy for the rugged "tough guy" looks, and put up with the less than civilized ride and gas mileage short comings.
The Ridgeline is being called a "Gentleman's Truck", I think that is incorrect, it is more a "Thinking Man's Truck".
For those that know and realize that they don't need a full off road capable truck, but want something that will still get them down a snow covered street or highway, where ground clearance is not as important, but increased traction is. They want something that when needed, can be used to bring large/heavy oversized things home (from Home Depot), or haul stuff off to the dump, while at the same time, don't really need a heavy towing capacity. A 1500+ lbs (3/4 ton) bed load capacity is nothing to sneeze at, and how many "mid-size" trucks can accommodate laying flat a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood or drywall between the bed sides? They want ride comfort, where at the end of a long trip, they don't feel like they've been beat up. The Ridgeline line checks a lot of boxes. So what if it's uni-body construction.... I don't see the people that are rushing to buy/pre-order a Ford Maverick "truck" complaining much about it being on the same uni-body platform as the new Ford Bronco. I also prefer a normally aspirated (non-turbo) V-6 engine for my horsepower, instead of small displacement 4 cylinder that is being turbo'ed to death to ring out the horsepower figures.

I live where it snows a lot and I see practically everybody driving newish full-sized pickups. Not having driven one, I wonder how they handle the snow. Fairly often I see them mired in deep snow off the side of the road, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything; anybody can make a mistake. But: wanting a good snow vehicle, I do have cause to wonder what the best one would be. Something like a Subaru wagon or WRX? A big pickup? Or something more like a Ridgeline.

Ok, I just bought my 2023 Ridgeline a week ago. Damn, it's a smooth ride. Has great MPG. I got about 26 MPG at 73 MPH for a 60 mile trip.
The cabin room is great. Bigger than Tacoma and Colorado, I test drove both.

After spinning 350K miles on 1987 and 2000 Tacomas it was time for a new truck. I don’t go off road (dirt roads & snow yes) or tow a 5000 pound trailer so all the macho and off road stuff doesn’t impress me. I was disappointed by Toyota’s stuck in time Tacomas. I felt like a traitor but for a home DIY guy in need of truck bed I bought a 23 RTL-E. It’s civilized mid sized truck perfection. I never thought much about a trunk but I use it all the time. No more having to worry about my tool bag being seen and someone breaking in to steal it. Even use the in bed sound system the RTL-E has more than I ever thought. Honda Pilot with a bed… I’m just fine with that.

You have to decide your priorities about what you want your vehicle to do. You get your pickup truck, your SUV, and car in a package. It's a good multi-purpose multifunctional vehicle. Not a traditional workhorse or hard-core rock climber.
People complain it cost so much.
But that's compared to traditional pickup trucks. It's price falls in line with a Honda Pilot and Passport SUV. There are more of them made, so you get better deal.
It has basically same cabin interior, and features. You trade It's 3rd row seats on Pilot and interior cargo room. The Ridgeline gives you composite bed and deep watertight lockable in-bed trunk.
You get dual-action tailgate. Since last refresh the tailgate is lockable by door locks. It can be turned of in infotainment settings.
You also getting one of Honda top of the line Torque Vectorng AWD Systems.
Mechanically simular to ACURA Super Handling AWD System. But in Rigeline, Pilot,Passport they are tuned differently.
Redesign 2023 Pilot the system was updated again. Expect new redesign Ridgeline to get same.
Ridgeline is wider than it's mid-sized competition. So think carrying 5 passenger or children's car seats.
It's payload is on par with competition.
The bed is shallow, but it is wider than other midsized. It also doesn't have wheel hump intrusions in its bed.
It's lay- flat and the rear seats are 60-40 split with basically flat floor.
It's max towing capacity for all AWD models is 5,000lbs. This was same for original 1st Generation Ridgeline 2006-2014 it had 4WD System.
    So towing capacity is lower.
Has limited less off-road capability because of ground clearance.
New 2023 redesign Pilot TrailSport suspension I say was designed for next Rigeline or it will have something like.
    It's a Gentleman's Truck

I think it should be mentioned that the 2023 Pilot's new engine does not include Vtec. It's important to me especially when passing or going up a long stretch of mountain road. If the 2024 Ridgeline is modeled after the 2023 Pilot, then this important feature could be eliminated

Nice review! I’d be curious how easy it is to remove the OEM tonneau cover, does it require tools to remove. Sometimes you wanna quickly remove and leave at home for a run to the compost or big box store. I have a LoMax trifold on my Chevy Colorado and it comes on and off in seconds no tools required. Thats the bench mark for me on tri-folds. Always loved the Ridgeline, most practical choice out there.

I have always been a Toyota truck guy and a Honda for my wife. I recently sold my Toyota Tundra 5.7 engine which ran great at 13-15 miles per gallon. It was a great truck but how often did I use all of that power? Not enough to warrant keeping it. I bought a 2023 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E and could not be happier. Wow! It is so versatile and great on fuel economy. The ride is incredible but to answer the question about pulling, I have a dual axle trailer and a Kubota L2501 that I pull from time to time. This is about 5500 pounds and the Ridgeline pulls it great! I live in the mountains of VA at that. I would not pull this load across the country with my Ridgeline, but my normal use, the Ridgeline performs like a champ. The Ridgeline is the gentleman’s truck, the active gentleman’s truck and the working man’s truck! Ha

I'm in the market for a mid-size truck and one that can fit two car seats. The Ridgeline seems to be the one that fits that bill the best because it's almost a tweener ( size-wise it sits at the top end of the mid-size market, almost between a midsize and full size). I'm still holding out for the 2024 model, though. That interior really needs an update and I hope the interior from the new Pilot makes it into the Ridgeline next year. The new front end styling would be a nice bonus, and a Trailsport package would be amazing. There's still a few drawbacks with the Ridgeline in my eyes - you give up a lot of truck capability but you don't gain any gas mileage over a conventional body-on-frame truck. The bed is too shallow and hiding the spare tire under it really doesn't make sense. I would gladly trade the "hidden storage" and spare tire for a deeper bed. It still makes more sense for an urban dweller with a large yard than a "real" truck even with those gripes, though...

Also add a hybrid version for folks who have "extra cash". Toyota is already redesigned its 2024 Tacoma interior and exterior, it's now look really nice. I wanted to downsize without totally losing he abilities of a truck. I got the 2023 RTLE. I have hauled dirt, wood, furniture, a full load of trees from a plant nursery. No problem. One of the things that I wanted was to be able to pull a trailer. I have not attempted to pull a trailer yet however, I will soon. This truck can haul 5000 pounds worth of trailer. I decided that would be more than enough for me. I love this truck for its comfort, spaciousness, safety devices, stereo system, good looks, and just an all-around comfortable vehicle. Regrettably, the earlier second generation models of this chassis have ran off most folks who'd be interested in one of these newer ones.
I have a 2019 RTL-E... been one hassle after another. The tonneau-cover leaks... a lot; the rear-doors don't open all the way like the front to make storing stuff easier... there's an 'upgrade' for this... good luck getting the right part, because even though it's inventoried as an upgrade or parts-revision, it's really just getting the front door door-checkers and putting them on the the back ones... kept getting the stock ones in the mail; it didn't have a tailgate lock... 2019 RTL-E... dealership put one one, but had to have the lock-tumbler configured at a locksmith 20 mi. away, they couldn't do it; the Windows '98 infotainment is pretty much useless... have to use Carplay for everything to bypass nanny-controls; the camera was misaligned when they put the lock on.
Once you have the lock out on, you have to be careful not to open the gate while it's locked... or you'll break the gate again... some kind of cable-slippage. The gate will open sideways, but not open vertically, or vice-versa.
Ir doesn't cruise right between 1600-1800 RPMs, bi-i-i-ggg mystery; which means it's a defect of some sort, it seems to be the transmission. If you go to a real mechanic, they add an additive to the transmission-fluid which helps mitigate this; it'll void the warranty for sure, but if it's not going to be honored, what difference does it make.
We haven't towed with it... I don't think I would ever do so. My experience with this thing gives me flimsy-vibes.
The hood-cover flops around in high crosswinds... it hasn't flipped-up, but it's very unsettling. 'Oh, it's fine.'. This was after the recall-work was done.
Walk-away autolock works about... 70-80% of the time; it's buggy... it panic-beeps and you lock it with the fob.
The outlet in the trunk... it's a 2-prong... I have no power-tools or tire air-compressors which are 2-prong.
I learnt yesterday this thing has another recall, engine rod-bearing defect. Don't get me wrong, I think the recalls are a good thing, they prevent buyers from being lemon-bombed. But, I'm nigh certain that when I take this thing in... they'll do some make-shift fix like they did with the hood.
    It has 43k miles.
Just... don't... buy one of these things; the only other vehicle in my life with more issues was my mom's Chevy Citation.

I have a Chevy 3500 4x4 gasser for my camper and a 2023 Ridgeline. For my camper it’s the Chevy. For everything else in life from commuting to mud, off road, (not rock hopping) to snow, ice and highway it’s the Ridgeline every time. So much more comfortable to drive and plenty of capability for anyone not needing the payload and towing of my one ton. Had a Tacoma before the Chevy and other than looking bad ass it was way less enjoyable in every way than the Ridgeline. Put the running boards and a roof rack on it and if that’s not Macho enough looking pin photos of your kids on the back that show they look like you and that should be manly enough for most guys. Women are probably too logical to worry about such things and will just enjoy owning it because it’s a great truck:)

I had a 2022 RTL-E that got totaled, but I loved it. Hauled firewood no sweat and towed my boat around easily. Super fun vehicle to drive. I'm picking up a 2023 RTL-E tomorrow to replace it since my insurance covered the accident really well. Skip the running boards, they're really not necessary. I had them on my 2022 and I'm not getting them on my 2023. The roof rack looks really cool but I personally had no need for it so I'm skipping that too

I have test driven every mid-size truck in the market, and this is the most comfortable ride, by far. I plan on doing a lot of driving once I retire, and this vehicle will allow me to do it with ease.

My only complaint is about the stereo.
Screen isn't near as responsive as it should be in 2023, and the sound quality is not near as good as the 2013 Cadillac I traded for it...

I own a 22 black edition. Halogen high beam is shit. Non-folding mirrors are shit. Infotainment system constantly locks up and requires reset by powering off the car. Air conditioning blows as cold as a 1988 ford escort with a corroded receiver-dryer and a pound low on charge. The fake leather upholstery doesn’t recover to its original shape months after removing a child car seat. 21 mpg combined is a pipe dream- you’ll get 19 combined. The body panel fitment from the factory is shit.
Honda needs to pass this one off to Acura to alleviate the obvious material and workmanship shortcomings of this otherwise decent vehicle.

Ford Maverick much smaller pickup truck exterior and interior. It's not midsized pickup. The interior materials are cheap.
This is when you compare to Ridgeline that has same basic interior as Honda Pilot. Pay close attention to newly redesign 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport.
They didn't do that for Pilot it's more for next Ridgeline and Passport models.
