DuskMourn opening?!? Straight to the top of the queue! I was SO excited to be wrong about this set! Like most I thought it was just gonna be a return to Innistrad, but the Horror Movie theme is so amazing for us horror-heads! So much fun and some really cool cards. Obviously we have no idea how it's all gonna shake out, and what is gonna be the big hits, but I'm so happy to see a set like this! I realize Magic has changed a *LOT* in the last few years and many are not happy with the themes, but I think that ship has sailed for the foreseeable future. Thanks for the first opening, looking forward to seeing what happens with this set for sure!
I’m right there with you. Originally, I was very “ehhhhhh” on the set but the modern horror with the classic horror tropes and cool artwork really brought me around.
I always appreciate your commentary when you crack packs. I'm personally not a fan of this set, so I like hearing a different perspective from someone who has some expertise opening so many boxes. All the best!
Thanks, I sincerely appreciate that! I’m much higher on this set now than I was originally. Flavor/theme aside, I think there are some constructed winners in here.
It’s certainly interesting. I think it’s exceedingly good in commander. Unsure if it will see constructed play. It’ll either turn out to be super good or stone unplayable.
@@WildcatMTG my vote is probably unplayable. But for a commander deck where I’m already looting a bunch and chucking whatever in the bin already? Sign me up. And the manifest dread helps me bin more. Seems good. I think we’re done power creeping and it’s power throttle mode at this point. There are so many new toys in here that will make commander and definitely standard better
This is the second set this year that feels a little... out of place to me. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good set within itself, and there's nothing out of the set which feels out of place, it's just the whole set doesn't feel.... magicky (to me, at least). In saying that - the art work is fantastic, and the cards themselves are great, but horror is just not my thing.
The first being OTJ? If so, I'll say I thought the same initially, but the set ended up being a lot of fun with a lot of great cards. And honestly because of OTJ, I'm waiting to judge DSK. Because I could very easily feel like DSK would be a pass. But we'll see
@@JCLA5 Yep - First being OTJ. I just think that they should both be "stand alone" sets, and not rolled into the main lore (although, that's got a bit broken over the last couple of years!) - I give NEO a pass because it does still feel fundamentally connected to the rest. OTJ and this set feel like someone just took the classic characters and almost.... fanfic'd them into a new setting, if that makes sense.....
@@SylvesterTemple lol hadn't heard the fanfic take yet, but I can see that with OTJ. If it didn't have have the playability and fun pack opening experience, I think I'd be there too. I will say, one of the things taking me further from DSK is the Japanese alt arts. I'm normally a fan of a lot of those alts, like from strixhaven, but man these look like Pokemon cards and I'm not a fan. And when I can't really be bothered with the chase in the set.. 🤷♂️
Thematically, OTJ was weird…. So the near apocalypse happened with March of the Machine and the result was that every major character in the MTGverse decided to club med for a vacation on a Cowboy plane? Weird… but the set itself was very playable and I enjoyed it. What’s weird is if anything I think Duskmourn feels a little more MTG than MKM. I still don’t understand how a murder mystery is somehow an event in a universe where they can commune with the dead. “Who killed you?” “It was Bob.” Mystery solved! Then they jammed it on Ravnica and were like “Look continuity!”
😂😂😂 I’m definitely not trying to change your mind. I wasn’t initially excited but I really like the homage to classic movie tropes. Understanding that there limitations to what art they are going to put on a magic card, I still think they have really pushed the boundaries of what we would normally see.
Hell yeah dude

The first booster he opens has the two cards I want!!!
Oh? Which two cards were you excited about?
That was a good preview! Thanks for that. Now I'll have to go see what cards I'll have to buy.
Absolutely! I was pumped to get one of the two hits I was hoping to pull!
Sweet set. Looking forward to cracking packs at pre-release
Same. I am really curious about the limited experience and what impact this will have on the constructed meta.
I’m a bit concerned mono red aggro will be even more obnoxious in Standard. It does not need more support! 😮
@@Pottering12 pyroclasm is back! I actually think this might really slow down mono red aggro.
Hope you are right Wildcat. Have been grinding with an orzhov bat deck. Not too bad. The Leyline of Hope looks like a potentual upgrade
Abhorrent oculus looks like a really good card. Probably gonna put it in my Vohar reanimator deck

I’ll be interested to see how good/popular the mechanic is in game play!
This was going to be a pass for me as well, but it looks like there are a ton of playables and the art is great.
I really was not excited when the set names were released last year but seeing the theme, art, and actual cards I am much more enthusiastic about it.

This set is pretty lame. It's like asking a sixth grader what they think horror is, but that sixth grader has never seen horror.
