Thanks so much for this. I'm very very new to collecting and I just started my very first mod with this. The video allowed me to remove the flag from the top of an ertl general lee without ruining the paint underneath. It worked like a charm. I even followed the link you provided to Amazon to get the buffing wheels. Now I have to successfully apply a waterslide decal I got off of ebay to make the general lee into a general grant! Thanks again for the great and informative video!
My sister turned me on to this channel. She use to play with my cars and trucks so often. But she also liked her dolls. So she had the best of both worlds. I got use to her taking everything out side or stuffing her pockets with cars and dragging a doll with her every time she left the house. If I couldn't find some cars I would go looking in her purses/ pocket books or what ever else she had to carry them.
According to my experiences the easier way is to use a normal deodorant spray (non black & white deo - which contains deo-dust or smoething like this) + paper towel. This won't harm the clear coat. Cheers :)
Well here’s a ha ha lol 😂 for you So as a retired teacher 👩🏫 I’m deciding to go thru and fancy up my collection of hot wheels as I’m a big kid at heart ❤️ nevertheless as a girl an old one at that I thought it said how to remove TAMPONS from your cars 😂😆 as I didn’t know that’s the proper name for DECALS lol Great video
Thanks for the tips, I don't have acetone or nail polish but I have a kit rubbing compound and I don't wanna dull out the paint under. I also use toothpick to scrape of the tampo in the recesses.
Great but only really works with a gloss finish. It will polish a satin or matt finish background. For these it is probably best to use a glass fibre brush.
A couple of local diecast customizer in my country uses cajuput oil to get rid of tampos, it will not damage the paint, though it will muddy the clear plastic on the windshield..
EXCELLENT method! i use acetone. but maybe i will use this method more now ;) i dont like using acetone so much ;( and i was wondering about pop culture paint... thats some durable clear coat on those castings! I add your channel to my Thanksgiving list of things im grateful for ;)
I have discovered a few years ago that 'dry erase board cleaner' will dissolve the ink of the tampo without harming the underlying paint. The shine of the paint is preserved and you won't risk having ghost images left behind from polishing through the tampo.
You should silver flake the roof on that Lincoln and put it on more tradional looking wheel. The paneling job that you left on the car looks very early 1970s but the god awful late model getto wheels just kill the look. I will always have a fondness for old diecast cars from the 1960s to 1980s, I came across your channel a few months ago looking to restore a few of my Matchbox cars from my youth that some how didn't die out in the back yard. Anyways another Great video, I am always excited to see your next one. Do you have a video showing your collection displayed? I would get a kick out of seeing it one day.
What brand of rubbing compound brand you using? I'm new to this and I don't know what to buy... also I made the mistake you mentioned... I used mail polish remover and now the paint is damaged. Do you know how I can fix it? Thanks!
trying to figure out how to remove tampos on a 1/18 scale ford crown vic because motormax doesn’t make the crown vics anymore and you can’t find white unmarked ones very easily anymore. being so large, and having so much to remove, what’s the best suggestion? i also don’t want to mess up the paint. and i could try and repaint a black and white to be all white, however i really don’t want to have to strip a cars paint, re paint and then apply waterslide decals. especially because i’m going to be adding lights and other things to the cars. fortunately body lines are fairly easy as all the doors open, hood and trunk.
Great video, If there is a tampo on a plastic body/part of the car can it be removed this way? For example the cargo area of a semi truck. Or is this only for metal body cars?
it will work but it is unnecessary... use a product called ELO or lighter fluid to remove the TAMPO without harming the plastic.. I have a video on this if you would like to see it. ruclips.net/video/NhIbiY7y-y0/видео.html
Will this method work on diecast aircraft as well? For instance, I have an airliner that has a clear coated polished aluminum base with tampo livery on top. I wish to customize it by removing the livery without damaging the clear coat underneath. I have not seen any videos on this topic, but since you are the diecast master, I trust your advice.
Question, I used to use spray paint for metallic colors and also metal spec paint. What is the best way to clear coat these so they still have the shine?
Kevin A Creedon unfortunately there is no way.... almost all the metal paints dull if you clear coat over them.. the best you can hope for is an acrylic metal flake...
Back when i was a kid i always "painted" my cars black with an Edding (i know stupid right?) My question now is: Can i remove the Edding from the car with this method and if yes can i also get the plastic windshield back to original? I once tried nail polish remover to get rid of the Edding but unfortunately it totally ruined the windshield, it got foggy and also kinda melted (maybe because of acid?) I hope i can get my cars back to the original color, the tampos are not that important, the windshields are the most critical point. Ps. Nice video as always :) Edit: I found your video on this topic, but i doubt i will find elo here in Germany :/
Kristopher B in essence it is a mixture of chemicals (as all things are), however it is an abrasive, it doesn't remove it by dissolving or reacting with the paint
Usually tampons have strings on them. Just reach in and pull it out. It won't hurt. Its natural. Make sure your then throw the used tampon down a drain pipe so a pretty dolphin chokes on it and becomes a super dolphin.
A QUICK Glance at the Title Under the Thumbnail on your Video Page, I Read "How to remove Tampons without using".............. My head filled in "the String." xD xD xD
Baremetal pls make this: watch na na na by my chemical romance and try to replicate the car they are driving in. You can also google it by googling: my chemical romance killjoy car.
The best tampo and chrome remover is a kid's hand sweat 😁
Right on!
Greasy potato chips on your fingers works even better.
exactly
I thought it was the String that's attached to them.
Kids' tears work better
My last video was a bit short... so enjoy this bonus video!! Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!

thank you so much for poping them out! it might seem strange, but i love watching your videos right before bed! im glad you have 130k subs already!
I don't customize or restore cars but I find your videos oddly addicting

Very sweet job. Does this work the same on the plastic bodied cars with tempos on them? Or is there a better way to do them?

The continental is probably one of my favorite hot wheels
Well here’s a ha ha lol 😂 for you

This is a much better technique than the dry erase markers, that chemical can be harsh on some colors I've noticed.

Another super helpful video. Thank you Sir. Happy thanksgiving
Two videos in two days!!! I must be dreaming!!
Good tip. I buy those innumerable hot rods to reconvert them to vintage cars for my toy train layout. Greetings from Ulm, Germany
Excellent video. I wonder why Mattel keeps putting these goofy tampos on cars....do they not realize that collectors want them removed ASAP?
Baremetal you are awesome. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Would love to see a video of your collection and how you have them displayed.
Happy Thanksgiving sir. Nice to take a break from cooking to watch a couple BMHW videos.
Great tip. Gonna try this. Thanks
Thank you for all your tips & instruction on how to's. Happy Thanksgiving 🍗🍗
I didn’t even know what a tampo was before watching this video
What model Dremel do you use, the bits do not fit mine
Thank you for your channel. You are very helpful.
thanks for the info you do nice work keep it up!!! i look forward to your videos
Looks good. I will have to give it a try. Thanks for the tip
Great “how to video” thanks for sharing

I will give that a try.
Wow! Thanks! Looks a good way to remove those pesky white 50th Anniversary decals.

Baremetal can you do a video about if you can remove hot wheels paint with nail polish remover please. And also happy thanksgiving
Robert Flores nail polish is acetone, which will dull the paint or in some cases remove it conpletely
Lil Rocket Man oh wait. I meant nail polish remover. I will edit the comment.
Robert Flores i meant remover as well, the polish itself doesn't but the remover is mostly acetone
Lil Rocket Man so it will just dull the paint?
Robert Flores most definitely but sometimes it can take off the paint as well
Great video. You should start a Patreron to fund your paints and other equipment. Everyone else is doing it, so why not?
Great video, If there is a tampo on a plastic body/part of the car can it be removed this way? For example the cargo area of a semi truck. Or is this only for metal body cars?

Can’t wait to see what color the Dodge Charger will be. Well can’t wait till Christmas

Yes it will work as long as the clear coat isn't on top of the tempo
Do you use a wireless or wired dremel? I've been trying to decide which kind to get for cosplay.
Naomi Nekomimi I've gone completely wireless now... I hardly ever use the wired ones
excellent!
Great video! 👍🏻
You can do this by hand rubbing Nu Finish polish on the model.
i cant find the pledge type you mention, is there a alternative, or can you show the ingredients
So nice 👍🏻 so nice 👍🏻
Hey where'd you get your cars
Will this work on plastic parts? I have a truck I am playing with... the truck is metal, but the "box" is tamped plastic.
Mark Glover no... watch my other video on removing tampos from plastic..
can you use a eraser wheel, or will that remove paint also?
make a vid on replacing the wheels on 90s metal bases
Question, I used to use spray paint for metallic colors and also metal spec paint. What is the best way to clear coat these so they still have the shine?
Kevin A Creedon unfortunately there is no way.... almost all the metal paints dull if you clear coat over them.. the best you can hope for is an acrylic metal flake...
Do a custom rocket bunny kit for a Subaru BRZ
Or any car, would be awesome.

Have you ever used a Caramel wheel? I find it doesn't bother the paint much at all.
Does anyone know if T-cut will do the same job as "buffing compound" mentioned in this video?
Do we have to pay u if we want a car to be fixed
My phone the Nexus 5x has a matte finish on the back. Do you know how to remove it? So I can get a shiny back.
Feroz Ahmad This is a hot wheels channel, not phone repair.
Spray it with glossy clearcoat. Make sure that the clear will not react negatively with the matte finish before spraying the whole back!
What about polishing a regular car without damaging tampos? Is that possible with any methods you know?
clear coat it first then polish the clear coat ;)
Can you make a new hopper car video?
I love your videos but does the video title not say "without using chemicals"? The compound is a chemical... or am I mistaken?
Kristopher B in essence it is a mixture of chemicals (as all things are), however it is an abrasive, it doesn't remove it by dissolving or reacting with the paint
some of the guys were talking about this the other day and I was like hey what we had like a laser pointer that would just burn the tempos off
Great tip, can you send me the link to the "Buffing wheels" on ebay......Thanks...
You Can use sand blower
Usually tampons have strings on them. Just reach in and pull it out. It won't hurt. Its natural. Make sure your then throw the used tampon down a drain pipe so a pretty dolphin chokes on it and becomes a super dolphin.
Tampos, not tampons.
A QUICK Glance at the Title Under the Thumbnail on your Video Page, I Read "How to remove Tampons without using".............. My head filled in "the String." xD xD xD
How about removing them on windshields
+Vintage_Polaris_Blaser 70s works the same...
+Vintage_Polaris_Blaser 70s works on windshields just fine
Oh thank you!!!
Does anyone know of there's a way to strip the paint from a car but keep the tampos?
I have that same car
Never knew transfers or decals were called tempos in America.
Stephen Cresswell
Apparently Tampo is a paint stamp not a decal..
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pad_printing
So did you abandon ELO. The easy lift off.
Jimmy Mitchell247 i still use it for plastic...
Just thinking itd be really cool if you did rocket league builds like the mad max ones
what us a tampo ?
I found the Continental on the floor yesterday lol
How can I contact you to send you a few cars to restore and have fun with
baremetalhw@gmail.com
Buffing compound is a chemical. Water is a chemical. ;)
XXCoder Thanks Dr Pedantic...lol
:D
Bro you don't even need to buff the car, just use an expo marker like the ones teachers use, it takes the decals right off.
Hey I have that car
Okay now come polish my Expedition with your Dremel.
Hey there I was wondering if you do your restorations for customers? I messaged you on Instagram!
it depends... I get so many people wanting work done that I could spend all my time doing that instead of making videos...
baremetalHW I messaged you on Instagram
I actually have the car that’s in the opening shot
TLDR
"Don't use chemicals, use abrasives"
facebook.. Chucks Diecast Garage..
Easier way, throw the car everywhere
Just use nail polish remover, thats what I use
Rampager 101 he addressed the problems with using acetone at the very beginning. You realize that's what nail polish remover is, right?
That's why I could never remove the tampos on that bus...
Oh god. You don't wanna know what tampos gets auto corrected to
RC HAZARD 87 - tampons...
Oz Ma Rar yup
Baremetal pls make this: watch na na na by my chemical romance and try to replicate the car they are driving in. You can also google it by googling: my chemical romance killjoy car.
It's a crime remove Tampos of the Mistery Machine!!
suct
Whoa, I thought you were removing TAMPONS. lmao
Buffing wheel the tampon slayer.
