These people forget that 5 implies you’re an average looking person. Assuming each number rating is 1 standard deviation away from the mean, being an 8 would make you more attractive than over 98% of humanity. But there were “8s” in this video that are a 3 at best.

I think a lot of people feel obligated to rate people who they perceive as being a lower number, as a higher number because they feel guilty telling the truth-- leading to overinflated score numbers for people who are not as widely accepted as very attractive.
Granted, we all have different things that we find more or less attractive, so it's not always the case, but it no doubt plays a part. Some people also feel obligated to lift up others they relate to. So, there's a good chance that guys and girls who may find themselves less attractive might vote higher to lift others up who they see themselves in.
