Plot your cutting path and clamp locations using your Haas CNC - Haas Automation Tip of the Day

  • Have you ever loaded a permanent marker into your spindle to mark a part? This works great, but you better have a box of pens handy, as those tips wear out quickly, and are easily crushed.
    In the latest Haas Tip-of-the-Day video, Mark demonstrates how to make your own spring-loaded pen adapter, so you’ll get perfect lines every time. You’ll be able to draw your cutting path on even the largest part, and check fixture clearances to make sure everything looks right before you start machining!
    And if you stick around until the end of the video, you’ll see what Mark does for fun, when he’s not programming Haas machines.

    I remember first watching this video years ago, before I even had access to a CNC mill. The company I work at just got a VF2 a couple months ago. Today I was setting up a part and checking clearances when I remembered this tip, so I made one of these tools and it worked great. The one thing I did different was I used the fingertip of a rubber glove rather than a party balloon, since those are more common around the shop. I’ve gone back and watched at least a dozen of these tip of the day videos since we got our machine. These tips are still very helpful all these years later.

      You are right Mr. Tomáš Krejčí ; I am a machinist of fifty years of experience. I was a manual machinist for last forty eight years. Due to CNC revolution I am now learning to run and program one of CNC machining Haas center. I am fascinated by possibilities and huge potential to combine my experience with this new machining miracle.

    nice video, now we know how to draft ourselves a house plan (A 0) without using a photocopier, just make a pen "tool" and use the mill in a cad/cam program, now we just have to put paper on the mill table, and we have a drafting machine!!, brilliant idea :))))

    this trick save me a whole week, I have to machine a part, inspect the part write the number on the part with a markpen and log the number on the inspection sheet, a good thing on my machine at work I got a renishaw prob and a marker pen to do most of my work

    We use our marker to mark vacuum passages.
    I use a 3D drilling operation to select the back side vacuum passages and "drill" from the top side.(Depth set at 0.0" to -0.03" Now I can easily find and hand drill the needed holes. Reference to a vacuum forming mold.

    I just use a drill chuck to hold the marker and don't spin the spindle while running it. Draw away lol
    I jog it to the table or part, creep down .001 at a time then jog x or y. When I see the marker line, I set that as my height offset 'n go from there.
    As long as you don't ram it into the table or part, there should be no issues with your lines.

    did you have to program a tool path for each of your clamps first? (and them remove them from the program before machining)? not sure how the machine knows where the clams are.

    I doubt that those who use metal cutting centres really need bom to build such holders.
    I wonder though if 30k rpm will shatter the marker . there going to be lots of paint on walls :)

    • @fireworm91
      @fireworm91 4 года назад

      What do you mean with fancy holder?

    • @codypenick6098
      @codypenick6098 4 года назад

      @@fireworm91 i mean you can simply put the sharpie in a 7/16 or 1/2 inch collet and touch it off. Theres no need to put together the pvp pipe and the balloon to run the sharpie.
