Splenomegaly perhaps isnt a risk factor of pneumococcal meningitis, rather it is Splenectomy, because the spleen is responsible for removing encapsulated bacteria like S. Pneumoniae, H. Influenza and N. Meningitidis. Removing it will predispose the patient to these infections
