For both in-universe and concept reasons for the name change, the name change makes sense. Also, given the fact that the original creator Butch Hartman has engaged in some blatantly anti-LGBTQ antics in the past, trying to patch things up with other people in the fandom via the name change would make sense. Still doesn’t excuse the fact Butch Hartman is an awful person though.
Dev is like late season Timmy in terms of personality, but has all the wealth similar to Remy Buxaplenty (at least Remy still cared about Juandissimo).
I actually think Dev is a Remy Buxaplenty’s variant. Rich kid Parents that don’t pay him attention to him A purple fairy godparent. And a weird friend-enemy relation with a kid with big tooth with less money than him.
I mean, in the original, Poof was a litteral baby. He was a side character for others and really had little character. Here, he's an adult, has a character, and can be explored.
Well what I want to say is that I think this show puts more effort into doing things with the character than the original show. I would say that the sixth season was the only one that used the character for impactful things like episodes with Poof learning to use your magic and powers,learning different things and also having episodes about Timmy learning to be a stronger and more responsible Godbrother.Like it wasn't super strong things at all,but it works pretty well. From season 7 onwards he started to be used less and less and kind of gives the impression that the writers forgot about the character existence and not to mention that there are a lot of episodes in this era where Poof didn't even say his name. (I think the reason this all happened would be the fact that the writers of this era kind of ignored him to make more episodes focused on Foop,Crocker and Mr.Turner.)
I genuinely adore that with Peri’s design, they made his rattle-wand instead into a cane-wand. So it still is very similar to his rattle, but it grew up with him and finishes up his distinguished looks

Honestly, Peri is what is currently pushing me over to watch this series. I was very attached to the original, and the last seasons and then reboot attempts kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. But they brought back Poof! As an adult! With a new name, new design and charming personality! That's the kind of reboot/continuation(?) I've been hoping for! They're treating the source material respectfully while still mixing it up.
Cosmo and Wanda traveled back and forth in time on their vacation so for them it's been so long, for Peri and everyone else only two decades. We don't know how long after the original series they went on holiday and therefore how much time has passed from Peri's point of view since the last time he saw his parents, perhaps only a year or even less (or 20 years if they immediately retired )

I love how, during his reveal, there was a lot of speculation about him being a potential antagonist or villain due to his cool and suave attitude, akin to Cosmo's personality in the OYC pilot. Yet, the very next time we see him, he's embarrassed because Dev made him parade around town as a horse! Talk about a contrast lol
