I love this Movie and still watch it today.. I had to have it on DVD, Beautiful.. For a young kid in the 80's into D&D this Movie Was EVERYTHING.. I seen it at least 5 times at the Movies.. And had to have it on VHS..
James Horner's score for "Krull" is extremely impressive-at the time of it's initial release and today. Peter Suschitzky's camera work is beautifully executed. Thank you for work on this video.
My husband and I were miles apart on the subject of _Krull_ ---I never liked it because it never seemed logical to me, but my husband liked it very much, and on the subject of illogic he said: "What do you want? It's not a documentary!" So that brought us to a truce. He enjoyed the adventure and the derring-do, and we still don't necessarily see eye to eye on every entertainment, but that's perfectly all right.
Yep, that's my problem with the film too. It makes no sense. For me I just couldn't get into the 'suspension of belief' they were asking of me. Others it obviously worked with. Good you worked out a truce :) Like any art, if we all enjoyed the same thing it would be a pretty boring world.
Hi Jonny I and mates watched Krull at the pics when it came out back in the 80's we loved it, fitted the time perfectly in the UK and I still make time to watch it now..
A wonderful and greatly under- rated fantasy. Every bit as entertaining and deserved of praise as any that I've ever seen. An 'EPIC' placed within two hr's.
This, Dragonslayer, Excalibur, Conan, Beastmaster, Hawk the Slayer, and the Sword and the Sorcerer were the ultimate foundation of us 80's kids Dungeons and Dragons world view. It's a shame this style of making movies no longer exists. The industry would thrive if it got away from the over the top super impossible moves, and enormous explosions, and got back to the more down to earth special effects, and realism of stop motion. Marvel, Disney Star SJwars, and CBS JJ Trek have become to reliant on massive, outlandish, and completely unrealistic stunts, and CGI. Writing at this levels a lost art :(
James Horner writes such great movie scores. His use of descending arpeggios is really effective in his writings. Makes his music really stand out and I find myself singing back his scores.
I saw this movie as a kid and loved it. I was surprised at having mistakenly associated Kurt Russell at having played the part of Colwyn. I also remember how much I loved playing the arcade game.
This movie is one of my fav B movies of all time! Amazing all around! The Slayers still give me chills to this day. And the Glaive is more iconic to me than a lightsaber! If given the chance for the Glaive or a lightsaber, I'd take the former any day! ^.^ Good video! 😸
This is my FAVORITE 1980's fantasy movie. There's nothing else quite like it. Perhaps one day, we could get a prequel revealing who made the Glaive, and how Ynyr knew of it. Or a sequel of an adventure with Colwyn and Alyssa's son. One would hope that the Glaive returned from space, to Colwyn after the Beast's defeat, so that it can be used for a sequel.
I enjoyed the arcade game, even though it strayed from the story of the movie. There was an Atari 2600 cartridge also, but it was very different from the arcade.
Wow another great video, and another of my faves, you’re cranking these out lately. I love Krull, but it has issues, it’s a bit rough around the edges, some parts feel unfinished, some of the effects don’t work, and the ending is just a bit too surreal, I never really feel like we connect to the Big Bad. Plus it’s clearly censored every time there’s gory action, which doesn’t help.
The lead actor looks so much like Chris Pratt it's not even funny. The back up cast was really top notch and it was the very first movie I ever rented on VCR tape, along with Mr. Mom. A moment I will never forget. Oh the days of mom and pop video rental stores and video game arcades. Ah the 80s had some wonder elements to it. We loved the 80s in the 80s we didn't have to wait to love it like so many other decades did.
I agree with you Jonathan. I really liked Krull on its release. I'd actually like to see a remake now that we've all had enough of Star Wars. Horners scores were good but he had a tendency to reuse elements. For me, his best work was the Wrath of Khan.
Watched this movie when it came out, i was 17 at the time. The prettyboy main character and his princess girlfriend were boring but the others were memorable. Thufir from Dune IN 1984, young Liam Neeson, Alun Armstrong and Robby Coltrane ( Hagrid, from the Harry Potter films) . Also, the cyclops character and his comic relief little buddy, Ergo The Magnificent :)
Star Trek First Contact will get a lot of Views for sure Jonathan, for non Space movies do you like the Original Swamp Thing or the Mad Max Franchise, Escape from New York and Excape from La, Conan the Barbarian and Destroyer, The Beast Master, DragonSlayer, Clash of the Titans Original 1981film, Gremlins and Gremlins 2 the New Batch , well i could go on and on sorry about that, Have a Great Weekend Jonny! 😉👌
Jacen Starhunter Will get to First Contact very soon, I love Mad Max, love anything John Carpenter does especially Escape from NY! Swamp Thing I actually haven’t seen.
I learned the movie apparently sucked. I loved it when I saw it in the theater with my dad. And I liked watching it as a kid over and over again on HBO. Haven't seen it since then.
Great video.. I really can't say I've ever liked this film, and I've tried. Saw it when it was released and found it dark, murkey and confusing as hell. Over the decades i've rewatched it with the same results. The SFX seem to be there simply as SFX, prosthetics looked like prosthetics and what the story is about by the end, I have no freaking clue.
@@omniexistus Art is subjective. Lots of films I love has many scratching their heads.. I do recognize the enormous amount of talent and work that went into the film.
Saw this with my mom in the theater when it came out. When the flaming hoof horses took flight the whole crowd started laughing. It was good fun. I miss you, mom.
One of the worst fantasy films ever made... A studio vanity project gone wrong with appalling acting, terrible special effects, poor production design and a drab script. A real waste of some great talent and a huge pot of money.
Loved this movie growing up and still love it now.
Loved this film as a kid. Great stuff.
They put out a beautiful film version of this a few years ago. It really restored the film.
My favorite part is the Widow of the Web.
I was born in 1974, so yes it was a lovely time to grow up.
I have strong memories of this film, & it left an impression.
I love this Movie and still watch it today.. I had to have it on DVD, Beautiful.. For a young kid in the 80's into D&D this Movie Was EVERYTHING.. I seen it at least 5 times at the Movies.. And had to have it on VHS..
Love this film. I love it so much I managed to find a glaive that looks like it came right out of the movie.
James Horner's score for "Krull" is extremely impressive-at the time of it's initial release and today. Peter Suschitzky's camera work is beautifully executed. Thank you for work on this video.
Thanks for mentioning Peter Suschitzky! I love his work.
@@skrugen Actually Horner and Sushchitzky should have gotten Oscar nominations for KRULL.
I remember this was on TV so much when I was a kid. I watched it so many times.
Must have watched this 100 times growing up on Pay TV, great video!
Thank you so much! :-)

I saw it on video on Beta, at a kids birthday party, I remember loving it! Love that era of films!
Would love a "everything you need to know" on 1984's "Dune"
I really did like this movie 🎥 the cast and special effects were great
Saw this in the theaters (In 3-d) with my cousins during a family trip. Great memories!
A wonderful and greatly under-
rated fantasy.
Every bit as entertaining and

I've ever seen.
An 'EPIC' placed within two hr's.
One of my favourites.Best scene, when he rolls up his sleeve to stick his arm into molten lava.Funny as flick.
Looking forward to your take on The Neverending Story.
This and Hawk the Slayer were my favorites when younger
One of my favorites as a kid, mate.
I remember watching this movie when I was a kid. I absolutely love it. Very good movie!!!!
There was a reference to the Krull weapon in Ready Player One I was so excited but none of my friends knew what it was
Their loss not yours!
This movie brings back some memories. You should review the movie Legend with Tom Cruise and Tim Curry.
Apparently Speilberg was also a fan. The Glaive made an appearance in Ready Player One as a major weapon. It was not in the book.
OMG I had completly forgotten about that.. Another good excuse to watch 'Ready Player One' again.. It's a great film.
I freaked out when i saw it in READY PLAYER ONE. Despite all those references i didn't expect that.
a really good movie with unique style. those slayers are really good design. the weapon also it´s iconic. it´s one of my fav fantasy movies.
I been marathoning your channel and have been really enjoying your videos. Great stuff.
Thanks so much!
Excellent movie, remember going to see this in the theater as a kid.

We know man, you aren't alone in thinking this!
Criterion should put Krull and The Beastmaster on blu !

Love this Interstellar Channel, it is Totally Out of this World! 👽👾🤖🚀
This movie deserves a remake
I loved Krull. . . even introduce the Glaive of Krull as a weapon in my AD&D campaign back in the day.
I saw this movie as a kid and loved it. I was surprised at having mistakenly associated Kurt Russell at having played the part of Colwyn. I also remember how much I loved playing the arcade game.

The movie and sound track were fantastic then and now!

Sir, I love this movie and grew up with it! Could you please do Sword and the Sorceror?
I enjoyed this..saw it at the movies and many times on HBO....
Loved this movie. Why are good films like this never appreciated in their time?
Pay attention, people. There's going to be a test later.
This needs to be faithfully remade.
It's definitely a decent film for me. I did like the weapon, the glave?
I was highly pleased when it made a special appearance in READY PLAYER ONE.
Not the worst film. I liked it a lot as a kid. Watching it again and it has a whimsical feel that is refreshing compared to what is made today.
This is one of my top 5 favorites of all-time! This movie NEEDS a sequel or reboot (as much as I hate modern remakes/reboots...)
Another excellent post
Gottlieb developed a pinball machine for the film but never went into production. The prototypes are insanely rare with only 10 made.
but the video game was released by them and had fantastic sound and good replay value..
I enjoyed the arcade game, even though it strayed from the story of the movie. There was an Atari 2600 cartridge also, but it was very different from the arcade.

How can you tell the gory scenes are censored? It's not like the movie has all these deleted scenes of gore so what exactly does your comment mean?
I love that film, great round up. I have tried to talk people in to watching the film, I might be able to do a better job after watching this 😁
I loved this movie and I like to watch it every once in a while.

Perfect amount of cheesy mixed with taking itself seriously. It’s unfair to equate it to Star Wars. It’s its own standalone universe.
I just saw it in blu ray at Walmart and bought it.. One of my favorite as a kid.
Great Job as usual, Jonny. Voice is great. Do you add any effects to it?
Thanks so much, I have improved my sound, I had a lot of viewers complaining about my microphone so I fixed it.
I was born in 82 so I am surprised I haven't seen this film yet. Is it worth buying?
Yes its worth owning
Krull is a great movie.
As a kid this movie reminded me of a early He-man adventure. With it’s cool mixture of Swords and Laser guns
I first watched this last February, really fun!!!
One of my fave movies.
Great video Sir I love Krull always have always will.
Best wishes,
Daniel.
Grew up watching it on encore in the 90s and own the DVD
I agree with you Jonathan. I really liked Krull on its release. I'd actually like to see a remake now that we've all had enough of Star Wars. Horners scores were good but he had a tendency to reuse elements. For me, his best work was the Wrath of Khan.
Love the early Horner!
Yeah, the movie had a great 'feel' and the only things wrong with it were the male and female leads. Just not good enough actors.
@@JonnyBaak yeh they tsked anut remke of krull kver the year
I remember most of KRULL is with the Pinball machine and Arcade Machine that came out at the time of the movie

Krull is badass
Loved Krull! Star Wars Shmar Wars. Any and all fantasy movies!
The beautiful Francesca Annis is also iconic :o).
Yes, absolutely!
:-)
:o)
One of my favorite film scores is Horner's Krull!
Why is this movie so much hated? I simply love it.
I love this film. It had good ideas, something about Yates not making a complete film.
Its a pure epic
Oh i always thought it was Peter Mayhew who played the Cyclops/Giant
johnny Please consider doing both tron movies
Thanx
Also one of the best soundtracks ever made by james horner.
krull is on comet tv this month.

I tried to like it. The special effects were good etc. I always felt it was missing something.
Please consider reviewing dune , the movie and the series
Thankyou for yr nostalgic episodes
Let’s give Krull a try.
Thumbs up if you think the lightsaber is more iconic than the glaive.
I learned the movie apparently sucked. I loved it when I saw it in the theater with my dad. And I liked watching it as a kid over and over again on HBO. Haven't seen it since then.
You can tell this is mashup of Star Wars and D&D.

For a challenge try to review Highlander 2 without laughing 😂😂😂
I made a krull throwing star out of a sheet of tin when I was 12
It sounds like you are mispronouncing Princess Lyssa as Lisa. But aside from that, nice video for a great 80's movie.
Still got my glave
I cant believe they hired an orangutan to write the script on Krull. 1:34 He did an amazing job though, its a great movie.
Lissa….not Lisa.
Ok this was better than pans labrenth but nowhere as great as The Neverending Story
First🍌
Today a new cult movie😀😀😀
Yay First! :)
this film gave evil henchmen clutzy robots a bad name.

Yes, I love the Glave...but more iconic than the lightsaber for the title 'most iconic weapon in film history'?
I think not...;)
Thumbs up if you think the glaive is more iconic than the lightsaber.
