- Here in this video I fit the Shad rear rack for the top box which is compatible with the Kawasaki panniers at the end you will see the cost of the top box compared to what Kawasaki sell them for. It took roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour to fit and that’s with a couple of cups of brew.

Looks good stuff the SHAD luggage systems - make the bike very usable for not too much money - seriously considering the pannier kit for my bike now.

Nice touch Derek, I'm about to install a luggage system to the CB650R and the Bonneville. Both systems I'm fitting will need some modifications for what we need

Hi Nigel no the tail end just drops no disconnection at all if your going to use this Shad rack make you get the spacers the right way around not like me the 1st time they can be a little fiddly but nothing like a long nose pair of pliers to hold them in place while you fit the bolts back in. @@blackbike1979 the plate is what holds the flashers on its the tail tidy plate I bought the bike has a Z1000 Sx tourer I think that Kawasaki put this type on because of the pannier if you look a photos you can see the difference between the tourer and non tourer without panniers fitted it’s bigger and sticks out more further back away from the bike 👍🏻

I have the 2017 tourer and would want to use the Kawasaki panniers just like you. Thank you very much for your replies, it has been very helpful.
Hi Derek, great vid. Your z1000sx is a 16 plate as is mine. Are the ails you fitted for the 18 onwards. The part number you gave seems to be for the 18 on. But clearly they fit. Any advise appreciated.
Hi there the number is the one the shop said will fit my bike it fits perfectly has you can see but make sure you buy from a know seller has I’ve heard some say yes it fits and some say it doesn’t 👍

PLEASE TAKE NOTE THIS IS FOR THE RACK ARMS YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR BASE PLATE FOR YOUR TOP BOX WILL FIT LUCKY ENOUGH THE GENUINE KAWASAKI ONE DOES FIT.
ALSO TAKE NOTE THIS RACK IS FOR A 2016 Kawasaki Z1000 Sx they are slightly different shape.
All in all ordered from Shad took 3 days from ordering to having it delivered.

@@SOLOMOTOUK I know this is an old video now, but it's something I'm looking at. I have a 2015 Z1000sx and have the original side panels. So from what I can gather I need the following:
KOZS18ST - Rails
D1B591PA - Plate
Shad 58x or genuine Kawasaki top box.
Does this sound about right or do I not need the Plate?

I' ve done this on a 2019, and now the Kawasaki panniers are a bugger to get off. Did you have any problems with that ?

Hi Nick no problems when I done mine I checked between the panniers and the Shad rack roughly 4mm gap you could see Al the way down both sides without catching the rack or the panniers sorry I cannot help but I don’t think they changed to back end of the bike until the 2020 models come 👍🏻👍🏻

@@nicholasfathers9742 hi Nick have you got on the where the original panniers fit the clear how can I explain it looks like small tape oblong-ish looking if there missing it makes the panniers stiff to put on and off use some silicon lube sounds mad but it definitely easier to fit them mine were missing you cannot get replacements my Kawasaki dealership said this 👍🏻👍🏻

How did you release the and drop the tail? Is there a release clip? Mine when removing the four bolts doesn't drop
The bolts that hold the tail tidy on just drops down on its own when all 4 bolts are undone no clip 👍
Even though I have the same shad bracket and topbox, on my 2021 Ninja 1000sx the topbox shakes and causes an annoying chatter which I thought was the suspension. Going over bumps I put my left hand on the topbox and can feel it julting and moving, even though the shad rack is solid like yours. Makes the bike feel unsettled, how are you finding it when riding just with topbox then?
Hi there I don’t own the bike anymore but riding with the just top box no shaking you might need to get better rubbers on the plate how I know this cause my new bmw f850 Gs adventure was shaking and made an horrible noise so I took the rubbers that came with the plate and got new ones done the job no more shaking hope this helps you
If you put the top box on and try shaking it if there’s movement definitely needs them.
@@SOLOMOTOUK Thanks, its not the rubbers, the box is solid, but strangely does shake which goes through the bike. I think the Ninja 1000sx is very sensitive. I still experimenting.
Hi Derek. Just stumbled across this video which has given me some hope! Will this set up work on a 2015 z1000sx? I don't know if anything changed from 2015-2016?
Yes definitely will fit the 15 cause then run 14/16 mines going tomorrow sad day but to big for me I’ve got the top box I’m putting on eBay £350 nearly half price should get a buyer cheers for your comment stay safe.

I literally put a deposit on one the bike today, but was going to pull out due to being told by Kawasaki that it's not possible to put a top box with the Kawasaki panniers. Are you 100% sure the Kawasaki 47L top box and plate with the Shad bracket will definitely do the trick, and panniers will fit??
@@johnbrown7506 yes definitely I tour Lake District hawes all around there and never had any problems at all Kawasaki do say not to fit a top box with panniers cause of weight but if you dig deep on line a look 1000’s have done and nobody has ever reported anything bad but saying that on the way back down on the M6 I went well did not realise I was doing 120/130 and it slightly gives a little shake but no one should be doing that kind of speed with any luggage on at all but hand on my heart I never had any problems at all 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Hi there still going strong no problem having the panniers on to the only thing I have felt is when it’s windy you get buffed a bit but that’s the same on all bikes with top boxes it rock solid at 80/90 mph not done over 90 on it with all the luggage Kawasaki say 80 mph max thanks for your comment 👍👍👍

@@motorcyclewild5873 hi Cheers I was lucky the top box came with the Kawasaki plate lucky enough the holes on the Shad rack arm’s lined up with the gaps in the Kawasaki base plate 2 nuts & bolts facing down and 2 facing up has couldn’t not get a tool in to tighten them up hence 2 up 2 down but solid has a rock doesn’t move. If you get the base with a top box have a look to see if the holes in the base line up with the rack if not you will have get the Shad base plate then there top box other I seen people fit the Shad plate and fitted on top of that the base plate that comes with there box which is wrong not safe plus it looks no good I hope this has helped you thank you Derek 👍👍

Nice video, do you have the part number from Shad. When i ordered, what i thougt was the same, i got the older parts for 2011 and for newer bikes without panniers.
