Johnathan, I must say you have the most detailed easy to follow video's regarding the ninja 1000 I've seen anywhere on youtube. When I started watching I had just purchased a '19 model. But due to unforeseen circumstances I now have a '20. I tell ya cruise control is a god send. Anyway because of your in-depth video's I have ordered a set of paniers from kawi that should be arriving tomorrow and will be installing those myself. Thanks again!
Thank you! I read a bunch of reviews on the net on how people successfully combine RAM mount, quadlock and that 12mm stem mount, but no idea how they are all supposed to fit together. This video answers everything!
Your instructional videos are outstanding. One update: I ordered the same 12 mm hexagon steering stem mount as you did, from Amazon yesterday (BuyBits 12mm Motorcycle Stem Mount Base); apparently it ships from the UK. It cost $30.83 not including shipping and will take 19 to 33 days to arrive. They charged me $13 for shipping! Then, when Amazon sent me a confirmation it had been shipped, it included a link to an alternate piece, that's virtually identical, also available on Amazon, called the Mounts Lab MotoMount Ninja- Kawasaki Ninja Motorcycle for 12mm Hexagon Hole Mount/Fork stem Base Mount with 1inch(25mm) Ball. It's a bit cheaper ($28.99), and available to deliver to me in three or four days! My guess is it wasn't available when you made this video. But for Stateside Kawasaki owners, this latter option seems to be a better choice.
Yes, the link took me to a spanish only site, with a product that looks slightly different but was sold out anyway. Can't find this. Another option is a device by Telferizer out of UK but very pricey.
Nice install! I used your previous video to install the Ram-Mount but then replaced the 'claw' with the QuadLock ball adapter since I was already using the Quad Lock system on my bicycle. Will have to think about the charger & dampener!
Great video as always. I moved from the X Grip to the Quad Lock some months ago. It was such a great move and more secure than my prior mount. I went with the USB charger because I've had inconsistent wireless charging, but like the cleaner look of it. I may have to try it out.
I've been dithering on the decision to order these exact same parts as I've had other mounts and power in the past. The power connectors have failed me in the past while on trips which is annoying. Also having to unplug cables, or take phone out of it's case to take pictures etc is a pain. I've now ordered the same mount and wireless charger. You videos are great and I've inadvertantly installed almost all the same parts on my '18 Ninja 1000SX.
This assembly seems to be over-engineered for my taste. Parts from three different brands combined together just to hold a phone, which has to be put in a dedicated case. And you still have to use a USB cable to power it up.
Done, but that part that goes inside the hole keeps coming loose. It's not the the screw that is spinning back, but the black part that expands keep wearing off. Did you face it too?
Another great video from the Ninja 1k master but I have a question. I noticed you removed the blue release tab in order to install the wireless charger. Did doing so make it more difficult to release your phone from the mount?
Great video with guides! The whole assembly looks so neat. 12mm Hexagon Hole GPS Mount is no longer available though. Any alternative for my 2011 ninja1000?
As of June 12 it is available from Amazon via Jon's original link. But $45 including shipping for that little thing?! (no Prime free shipping either). Curious how much you paid, Jon: has Amazon jacked the price because it kept going out of stock?
Great info! Can you film a new review of the Ninja for day to day/ touring use? I’m shopping for a new (to me) bike to replace my GS. Something a little smaller in height and weight. Thanks!
Hi John, Its Vlad from Northern Ireland. I Have question here, where Would You please install battery charging point and what Would You use ? By the way, Your videos are Very needed, keep doing it. Thank You
Hi Vlad - Check out this video, where I show how I've installed my USB chargers. I have a 2 port socket installed in the OEM location, and a hidden USB port underneath the upper fairing. This is the one I use for phone charging. ruclips.net/video/QANYbCl0vnU/видео.html
Switched and constant power sources. That's what a power hub is for. I have a power hub from twistedthrottle.com. I'm running six accessories. TomTom 550 GPS, Oxford heated grips, Radar detector and the pigtail for Tourmaster heated vest and pants are all on switched power from the power hub. The Powerlet 12v plug socket and SAE plug for my battery tender are both on constant power, so that they can used without the engine running on my 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ABS. I've had this technology on the bike for about six years with no issues. Oh and Quadlock is the only way to go. Don't waste your time and money on RAM X-mount.
I haven’t installed a fender eliminator, but my video on rear fender removal will be very helpful for that. I know others have used it for their fender eliminator installations.
Hola que tal soy usuario de una ninja 1000sx año 2018 y necesito cambiar de millas por hora a kilómetros por hora el marcador tienes algún tutorial? O me podrías dar instrucciones porfavor
I have a question, is there a big difference before and after using the 12mm Hex Hole Ball Mount Adapter instead of your original ram mount? I have a ram mount and will install it the same way you did before but is the end result better with the hex hole adapter ( vibrations and wobbliness)?
I don't have any concern about the strength, even at triple digit speeds. On my bike, however, the phone mount is behind the windscreen, so it's well isolated from the pressure of the wind.
Great video, saved me a lot of headwork. Thanks! One quick question - have you tried to remove it to access the stem nut, as I've seen some difficulties other had with removing different solutions - at the end of the day, you need to get access to it eventually, was wondering if it's not a one time mount after it initially expands.
@@JonLong Great, will order one now, was overthinking too many aspects (as usual), then I found this solution, then your video.... Thank you for quick reply and again - for the video - I was going to go ahead with previous method fabricating something into the nut and using stem mount. Subscribed for more. Thanks!
Hi John. I have an off topic question. I actually have the same bike that you have and I was wondering if you was to replace the bike that you have what bike would you be looking at?
I can give you a good answer, because I recently sold the Ninja and ordered a new bike. I’m replacing it with a 2022 BMW R1250 GS. I was looking for something that was fun to ride, like the Ninja, but that was better suited to touring and had some more versatility for the occasional dirt or gravel road.
Hey, I’ve got a 1000SX and I’m trying to replace the headlights with LED units (h7’s) however the headlight unit seems to be quite different compared to the older models. Do you have any tips??
Retrofitting LED bulbs into a halogen housing can be tough. The reflectors are designed for a halogen bulb, and replacement led bulbs may not work well, even if they’re very bright. I replaced halogen bulbs with LEDs on my last bike, and I had to buy multiple bulbs to test out and see which worked best. Shine your headlight on a wall or garage door and make sure you are getting the same light cutoff as you do with your stock bulbs, so that you aren’t blinding oncoming drivers.
@@JonLong that’s a good one! I have 2 different sets of LED’s now to try out. However the headlight housing is quite different, there seem to be no traditional dustcaps anymore. I think I have to remove the entire headlight unit in order to replace the bulbs
Hey, I was looking at getting a N1k, but when i called my insurance company, they quoted me an astronomical rate. Which insurance company do you use? Do they understand that this is not a zx10r?
It's a common issue with this bike. Insurance rates vary widely and are based on many factors, so a company that has the best rates for me might have the worst rates for you. My advice is to get quotes with a bunch of companies until you find something you like. Check with riders in your area to see what insurance companies they have had the best luck with. I've gotten quotes from $600/yr to $3500/yr for full coverage in the US.
Hey Jon, thanks for sharing. There is also another option Martin Taylor (UK) is proposing on Facebook (Kawasaki Z1000sx and H2 sx owners group: facebook.com/groups/947416011991713/permalink/3239056482827643/ - feel free to join the group, we are having fun over there :D). This system allows you to keep eyes on the road while riding.
It’s kind of crazy how much money it all adds up to when you buy everything, but I can see why. No regrets. Thank you for the video it was so helpful!

Now we have the perfect item for quad lock
Thank you! I read a bunch of reviews on the net on how people successfully combine RAM mount, quadlock and that 12mm stem mount, but no idea how they are all supposed to fit together. This video answers everything!

Hey I'm picking up my new 2021 1000SX today. I've watched all your videos and really appreciate you. Thanks for putting these together
Grim, I picked up my '21 the other day. It's a fantastic bike
Thank you John for all your videos on the SX , got the same bike and your videos help me a lot .

I think you’ll like this solution. Let me know how it works out!
Nice install, but I wish they had something lower and more flush with the handlebars, less protrusion
Installed one of these last week. Very happy with it
perfect, i followed this setup minus the charger and damper
This assembly seems to be over-engineered for my taste. Parts from three different brands combined together just to hold a phone, which has to be put in a dedicated case. And you still have to use a USB cable to power it up.
All necessitated by Kawasaki's preference to use a different steering tube cover....
hey, will this work on a ninja 400? I don't care about the charger thing, just want the setup for my iphone
Very neat! Another great video, Jon. Many thanks.
great video thanks a lot. can you please tell where to buy the break pads 1000sx 2020 ? and video installing if you have one. Thank you...
Done, but that part that goes inside the hole keeps coming loose. It's not the the screw that is spinning back, but the black part that expands keep wearing off. Did you face it too?
I use the same setup but with the fork stem mount from quadlock
Hi sir, your video is well done my friend. Can you send me all the links to me to get the same set up on my Kawasawaki Ninja 1000SX 2023.
Love ur videos...very detailed...i live in the UAE. pls make a video suggesting tire wear and replacement options.
Another great video from the Ninja 1k master but I have a question. I noticed you removed the blue release tab in order to install the wireless charger. Did doing so make it more difficult to release your phone from the mount?
Not at all. The wireless charger has its own release tabs, which are easier to use than the blue one.
What's work around with the z1000 gen 4 2016 mounted on stem horizontal?
Hi John, have you installed a radar detectar to your SX
Thanks Fiona
Do you know how to change the coulor of the display
Hi, any idea for Ninja-ZX-10R Y2021-22?? The Quad Lock seems not fit... 🤔😏 thx

I still see it as available. Search for “12mm hexagon gps mount”. The manufacturer/seller is Buybits.
