Unfortunately, I've found this tutorial to be wrong. You actually want to use the largest tooth grip washer that will fit inside of your fork hole. If you use a smaller one as is shown here the washer digs into the rubber, the mount will spin freely even though you've torqued it down to the point of almost tripping the hex socket, and you will have ruined the whole thing. I followed this video exactly, on the identical bike, and had to trash the mount because I followed these directions. But hey, I've got to give RAM credit, they forced me to have to buy another mount (and ignore their instructions) so I could use the X-Grip I had bought for the bike. A great way to sell more mounts, give bad instructions so people ruin the first one and have to replace it. A friend with a new R1 ruined his first one too following these instructions.
This is sound logical advice. We know the rubber is going to compress and become fatter so why not use the biggest that fits to get the most bite. Will obviously reduce chance of pull through also. 10/10 advice. Thank you good sir
Crap, I used the one suggested in the video and now the mount spins, it’s well secured as in it won’t come out, but it spins 🤦🏻♂️... you guys think it’s the plastic grip?
Thanks for taking the time to post an installation video. Wish every Company did the same, rather than supplying pictorial instructions with half the steps omitted.
Make sure you use the SECOND to the smallest - not the smallest - black plastic bottom nut retainer with the teeth in it for the ZX-14R. The smallest one pulled up inside the rubber part and created a potentially messy/complicated situation.
Great directions. As described, I had to trim the top and tighten the lock nut more. Took a few tries to get it right, and a couple of taps with a rubber mallet to get it all the way in and sitting flush. Works perfectly. Rock solid and no movement.
FINALLY!! The perfect mount for my 2006 ZX-14. I've spent $$$'s on bullshit applications for my phone to be used as GPS and music while riding. Anyone with bike like mine will know there isnt room on handle bars and you dont wanna use reservoir bolts mounts cause it messes up the "go fast" aka laying down on tank position. THANK YOU DEAR BABY JESUS!!
thank you for this video - i had a problem where my ram mount would constantly rotate, i learned to live with it, but with a 1000 mie rally coming up, wanted to put a stop to it, this video helped as I noticed I hadn't actually inserted my stem mount all the way into the stem ! I left out a small upper portion between the ball and bolt.Might seem obvious, but this video shows really nicely how the whole stem-mount goes into right upto the ball. I adjusted the size of my washer to fit, and now its a tight as anything with no rotation !! thank you again !
Use the biggest allowable tooth nut. If you destroyed your first rubber wedge like I fid before reading the comments. Then just cut a small sliver of rubber from the orginal from each end and the upsize the tooth nut. You can still salvage it.
It's been 2 months since you've replied, but if anyone is still struggling, the process is very simple. For most bikes, you take something thin and flat, like a flat head screw driver and just simply lodge it between the cap and the stem and pry. Also, most bikes stems are hollow and you can access it from the bottom (wheel side). You can take a long stick and push up on the cap and it should pop right off.
Had to play with it for a bit to make it fit my 2015 gsxr 750..I had to keep taking it out and hold the bottom where the bolt goes in with some pliers and tighten it quite a bit than push it all the way in than tighten it up again..it’s pretty tight in there now.
I have used this but Ive tightened it as much as I can and the teeth have pushed the rubber and it won't come out the only problem is that the Ball mount can still spin if I push it round and is not solid. What do I do??? I thought it was the washer that you put between the top and the rubber tube. Help??
I flipped by nut in the opposite direction since it kept spinning when I was tightening it and now that solved the problem. Hope this helps anyone with issues if it still spins when tightening.
Got my kit and everything worked fine. Except the plastik nob sticks out a little bit on my honda cbr 650 r, so that i cant get it in perfectly aligned. Dont know how to better explain it, since im not a native speaker. It fits kinda but that top portion of the "egg" where the ball is cant be screwed down completely. hope it wont turn out to be an issue while riding in the future.
question I have the 2017 zx10r cant I take off my ohms steering damper to install my fork stem mount for my motorcycle or would I have to put it on in a different spot on the bike? Any help would be appreciated
It was a bit difficult to install... i ended up putting the rubber piece upside down because the rubber kept coming out of the hole when tightened ... but i went over 100 mph yesterday and i still have my phone...
Help, 2015 Honda VFR 800 Interceptor... what do you do if the expansion plug bottoms out on the skinny end & the fat end can't even be forced into the hole?
What is the real difference between this and the finger grip stem mount? I got the finger grip one but it seems to come with a much longer attachment arm. I want the stubby ....🙄
You probably should show the tether. There are some people, even here on RUclips, claiming this mount doesn't work because they go riding with it and not use the tether. O_o
I wonder if I could chuck this on my EBR. There's a bloody steering dampner right in the way of the for stem hole. could probably remove it to do the initial mounting
Went through two of these following instructions. Both are torn to pieces and didn’t work. I’m going to stick with my quad lock. 10x easier and feels so much more secure at high speeds
I have a pulsar 220f Doesn't have handle bars so i decided to get a fork stem mount, but I noticed that my fork has a bolt or a stud insted of a nut and cap lile i saw in all videos for fork stem mounts. Are there any mounts that fit my description? Any help is appreciated.
How do you install this on a Panigale fork stem? Opening is small but inner side of the fork stem is too big for any expansion plug to fill in to be tightened.
So... The expansion plug is too small for my vfr.. it just slides in all the way to the top thick part and I can just pull it out. Do they make a thicker one?
followed ALL the steps exactly as you said. The mount wouldnt go all the way in so since you said the top would have to be cut a little more, I tried pulling it out and now the rubber part its stuck in the hole!! the only thing that came up was the ball and base, the screw and the nut (which slid all the way thru the rubber part up). HOW do I take the rubber thing out? its completely stuck in there :( FML
had the issue of the expansion plug never grabbing and would continue to spin in my hand. may be a common issue with bikes with smaller fork stems like my 2017 Ninja 650. i was able to get it to work by just inserting in the fork stem anyways, even though it still freely spun. once the plug was supported by the walls it was able to grab and i could tighten it down with 15-25 turns. hope this helps someone, very frustrating for me lol.
The smallest tooth washer is the only one that fits in my fork stem. I can’t get it to tighten after I get it in and it just spins freely. I’m thinking about just applying glue to the bushing and putting it in. Anyone done that or have any other recommendations? (As a side note they did have a bottle of glue with all the parts in the kit so maybe that’s what’s needed)
Ok I’m back with a solution. I took the next largest size tooth washer and took a box cutter and shaved off of the sides until it would fit into my fork stem. With that washer in it no longer spun freely and I was able to lock it down into place and finish mounting everything else
Yes it will fit 👍 I have just installed it on my 2017 CBR500R, you need to cut the rubber at the very top where it goes really fat and use the biggest washers and plastic gripper nuts. Fits absolutely perfectly also I had to tap it with a mallet to get it to fit into the fork hole then I tightened it with an Allen key, it’s solid as a rock now with no movement.
Do not purshcase for the ‘16-‘18 Ducati 959 Panigale, this will not work. There is a large void in the fork, just past the hole in the fork. The mounting piece will simply rattle around completely loose in there. Now I can’t return this bc it’s been opened/cut. :/
I cant access the stem hole. Does every motorcycle have it? I have a nut with a round top that wont come off. Can anyone help? Since I saw this video I’ve been searching on how to remove it but found nothing lol.
This video makes it look easy. I can assure you its not! You will wind of grinding, sanding, cutting, cursing, etc. over several hours to make this inherently flawed piece of equipment work. Even then it never quite seats right and was one of the most unsatisfying pieces of equipment Ive ever installed on a bike. Huge PITA.
I spent 2 hours trying to get this in and I figured out that the nut was the problem. It was restricted so I just found one in my house laying around. I don’t recommend using the nut it comes with

DO NOT USE THE SMALLEST TOOTH WASHER! if you tighten harden enough you will ruin the rubber or you end up stripping the allen bolt, use the black washer that just fits in your fork hole
It's rare that this has to be done but you may have to use the bigger side, and shave it down by little bits at a time until it can just barely fit inside. It's ok if you cut a little too much when doing this because the rubber on the expansion plug is very flexible when tightning; it will still easily fill in the gap when you are tightening it down. the fork stem mount is complete bs for a honda blackbird. i installed it according to the instructions and all it does is spin around inside the stem. it will not tighten down. they included glue in my box with no explanation for it. the inside of the fork stem is not round on the blackbird. it is hexagonal. it will not work for the blackbird. the locknut grabs the plug and just spins it round and round. i pre tightened it to the point that i had to force it in the hole and it still just spins inside the stem. dont waste your money on it for the blackbird. it might work for others bikes, just not this one. also the rep at cycle gear where i bought it said the x grip would work for my galaxy s8+. not so much. i have to force it in at its widest grip opening to make it work as well. so far im not impressed for 60 dollars. im thinking about trying the tank mount but have some serious doubts about the product now. im not even sure if i can get the damn stem mount out now without the rubber coming off inside the thing. after a lot of manipulating i got it to tighten some but nothing like it should be. it is still loose in the stem. no go for honda blackbird.
I had the same issue with my ninja 650 and the hexagonal shape. My mount kept spinning until it just fell out. Revzilla has a ram gopro mount that I'm planning on buying and mounting to my tank. Then I have a choice of putting my gopro or my phone on the tank
Found this too late. I used the instructions that came with the mount and the instructions included are wrong. Made me cut the fucking stem too high. Now I have to order a new stem from eBay. God fuckin damnit. LoL how am I suppose to make calls on my bike during the Coronavirus apocalypse, now?????
This is a waste of money for zx6r 2019 When you tighten it the nut spins too the plastic does not grip in the rubber. Rubber is too soft. You should change the locking system of this product.
moto doom. I had the same issue on a 2018 R1, but I took it out and tightened the locknut more, then re-installed it. Took a few tries to get the tension right on locknut, but once it was good, a few twists and it works great.
This guy doesnt even know what hes does. He cut the rubber where its to skinny. That why when he was tightening it on the triple tree. It kept spinning. Funny how it was snug when that portion of the video was cut.
This product is absolutely garbage horrible directions no matter how many times I've tried will not get tight destroys the rubber piece then you have to buy another one and destroy that one too
I bought 2 of these, worst shit ever. You guys should redesign how it expands inside. The rubber piece is to hard and it always swings around inside the stem no matter how you tighten. Rather have a expandable metal anchor like other brands
Yeah it's a rubbish design, literally followed this vid and it dont work, the gripper just spins and doesn't tighten properly, it's sort of slightly hooked in but spins all over the place, I'm going to need to use some adhesive to stop it moving! Shame really 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
the cone system is ram mounts biggest bull shitt, it's slip out. would be a lot easier and helpful if they add cylinder form rubber with different diameters.
So this vid is garbage, I did everything and the thing just swung freely, if you have have kept the remaining parts use some of the rubber as a washer and it will not swing, make it very tight.
Unfortunately, I've found this tutorial to be wrong. You actually want to use the largest tooth grip washer that will fit inside of your fork hole. Everyone starts their tutorial with the fork cap already off. How useful are the instructions without that step?
The bike I'm going to mount it to doesn't have a cap on there... so fine by me ;)
If you can't figure that out yourself, return the bike to the dealership - NOW!
The cap is litterally the only thing keeping me from knowing where i am
It's been 2 months since you've replied, but if anyone is still struggling, the process is very simple.

Guess I should of bought the handle bar mount this is just stupid. This nut is so tight aint no way it can screw down properly.
This is a waste of money for zx6r 2019
When you tighten it the nut spins too the plastic does not grip in the rubber. Rubber is too soft. You should change the locking system of this product.
moto doom. I had the same issue on a 2018 R1, but I took it out and tightened the locknut more, then re-installed it. Took a few tries to get the tension right on locknut, but once it was good, a few twists and it works great.
My screw stripped

$80 and don’t provide the 10 cent Allen key.
the cone system is ram mounts biggest bull shitt, it's slip out. would be a lot easier and helpful if they add cylinder form rubber with different diameters.
I'm surprised no one has asked the obvious question: why don't they sell that little piece of rubber for $3 for all you dummies who messed it up?
ill just pay someone to do this …….this is ridiculous
Just flip the nut inside the plastic casing - helped tremendously.
So this vid is garbage, I did everything and the thing just swung freely, if you have have kept the remaining parts use some of the rubber as a washer and it will not swing, make it very tight.
I've messed up 2 of these I'm not buying a third fuck you guys
What an absolute garbage design, most RAM products are great but this won’t tighten down, just spins because the teeth on the nut wont catch.
your instructions that come with the mounts is absolute garbage. if your going to manufacture and sell items you should tell people how to use it.
If i dont use the washer, will it prevent the base from rotating once its installed
