In this video I used a mixture of aluminum oxide and glass bead to get more "cut" and clean the oxidation from the aluminum in the DIY vapor blaster.

awesome video!! I've been watching you since you helped me huge to build my homemade cabinet. I figured out that buying one was not worth it since you have to put loads of work after buying it anyway... I just wanted to let you know we need more videos like yours and that I might build a vapor blast since I'm enjoying this blasting a lot.
Add a teaspoon of Cascade dishwasher detergent per gallon of water.
Sheeting action, no water spots, slurry has more lubricity, and
it's anti-fungal, no smell or algae.
Cool I'll have to try that. Does not foam at all?
Fully featured is the only way to go after having both types of systems bare bones and fully featured
What size aluminium oxside to mixing with glass beads on this video?
FYI. An S.O.S soap pad with water pad will clean up bare aluminum to a nice shine too.It just takes forever and non flat surfaces are a PITA. Also works on plastic chrome I hear, but have never tried it.
I think to save time its better to sand with orbital or rotory sander on large accessible areas first. Also sand or grind down damaged area around bolt hole prior any other work.
You should have your media in different containers and just change your whole container out and leave the media in the container (some kind of air tight container to prevent mold if possible) and just put a lid on it. that's how i'm going to do mine when i build it.
I use a drywall mud scoop and transfer media from pit to 5gal bucket. I still need to find a good way to dry media out. May just have to spread it out on a tarp for quicker drying.

A+ Once vapor blasted and shined to your liking, do you coat with a clear? Wax? How does one maintain the shine? I had some parts polished a few months back and I can see oxidation starting already.
Vapor blasting peens the surface pores closed, so it is less likely to corrode. People also use ACF-50 anti corrosion spray.

It's safe to clean engine heads and engine blocks? i know it's very hard to clean when sandblast engineheads/blocks, and could damage if it's not clean good, i was wondering if vaporblasting using bead glass, would be cleaner easier or really it would be same than sandblasting..
Cleaning is easier, but you still have to be very thorough and make sure all the media is out. I pressure wash and blow with compressed air with critical components.
How long does the glass beads last and how much is needed to fill the cabinet before use?
15-20lbs to fill. Media lasts a long time since I do this as a hobby. Cost is $1/lb roughly.
My blast cabinet was someones curb junk!, it just needed a new gun,
a little tip bro never hit the sealing surfaces with the blaster

No. Cost of cabinet is 100 or so used on Clist, or 180 new. I will be coming out with a "bare bones" part list which will reduce cost to 550 or so. Some nice to have features are really not needed and I found cheaper parts that accomplish the same thing (plastic vs brass fittings).

this is a hobby machine , the real vapor blasters i work with, like vapormatt and vixen aquablast they have a very special polyurethane pump and impeller

@@UltralydvaskingLillehammer Yes those machines have 5hp slurry pumps and cost 15-25k. You also need a compressor to handle 25cfm continuous. You are in the 10hp compressor range for that amount of cfm, including some duty cycle.

i do a lot of complete engines wheels and frames, and therefore i am using a hefty cabinet with a 6 hp pump 6mm(1/4 inch) air nozzle it takes 40cfm(at40psi) so i use a 15hp screw compressor , the force it takes to hold the gun is intimidating check it out > search for "vannpolering " thats norwegian for waterpolishing a more correct name imho.

good grief, just buy a VHT weekend warrior for 2650.00 and be done....you do the 1st pass in the dry cabinet then move to the vapor cabinet....who in the hell has the time to constantly swap media!
I contacted VHT about a machine and they said they start at 4k. So I decided to build my own. I only have room for one cabinet. I can have multiple pits and swap media very fast.
This seems too complicated.
I'm afraid you make it sound too easy there, mate. Changing the media is far from pleasant if it is to be done properly. This two-stage method is only acceptable with two machines or if you split your work to do a bunch of parts with the mix first for a few days and THEN change the media and do the finishing work.
Please explain your reasoning? I was able to rinse cabinet and change media within 20-30 minutes. Are you concerned about contaminating the finish media? I mentioned in the video this only makes sense for a large batch of parts (especially corroded parts). For a single part, this 2 step would take too long.
@@HTMR I'm sorry, must have missed the moment in the video. 20-30 minutes sounds about right. The contamination would have to be quite substantial to actually make a difference. I just thought people deserve to know how much time and effort it really takes to rinse and change the media. Thank you for the elaborate demonstration of two different finishes. You might want to add the mix ratio if you don't mind. To me, this looks like 20/80 or 30/70 alu-ox/glass bead. How far off am I?

@@HTMR Out of curiosity, what compressor are you running?
@@vitjakes5531 2 stage, 5hp, 80gal, 18cfm. However, my old pump is tired and only puts out 9-15cfm (intermittent bad valve issue). I have a new pump on order and should be back at 17-19 cfm in the next few weeks. Looking forward to increases air jet and nozzle size.
