Nostalgia is good, I always listen to this set when I need to recover my energy and strength. This mix brings me peace and tranquility. It's like my mental reset button... - This is essential.
Trance is the reason I started listening to Electronic music . I was 16 now 34 almost 20 years ago. The emotion the Euphoric the uplifting feelings you get you can only feel it with trance. Back then it was the golden era. I we live it. This new generation only knows about the drop. Too bad we are only influence by money and have to adjust to the new trends. But Above & Beyond still captures and brings out the Emotion nowdays. But Progressive and Deep house are very good to me they are a slow version of trance
completely agree, grew up with trance and indie and in that period of the mid 2000s both were lively scenes, now though i only listen to Deep house . i feel it’s the closest thing to the feeling of trance from back then

I come back to this set every once in a while because it has a special place in my heart. It's just blows my mind every time how music can help us remember certain periods of our lives so that we can kinda relive them. I used to listen to this at that time when I was met my first girlfriend. That very first kiss in the snowfall in that cold night, the butterflies in our bellies and all that jazz. Things didn't work out, it was a long time ago and I was just a kid but that sensation I felt and which I can recall with this masterpiece was truly Above & Beyond.

Agreed... When I first found out they were doing another essential mix, I thought "They'll never top 2004...". After listening to it a few times it grew on me. Although its still not better than 2004, the 2011 one shows how trance moved on, but it still has the old trance feeling embedded... It was like going from Anjunabeats volume 1, to Anjunabeats volume 2... Talking of which, thats next up :)

Then went back home with my international friends for our summer vacations to Greece celebrating Euro Championship and having even more wicked time... This mix was the soundtrack of the best time of my life...

It is a soul searching, heart breaking, rethinking your purpose on this earth, heart healing, and is a straight up life altering fucking masterpiece. I wish music still had feeling and soul and meaning like it did back then. I wish I could make young kids who think they are into “edc” music sit down and listen to this and I would bet you almost anything it would have a similar effect on them. Unless they are just empty and soulless and in that case carry on listening to your shitty music .. your loss my friends.
