Ted Knight, a World War II Veteran, he served with the 1st Army Group's Combat Engineers, as a radio reconnaissance operator. He was among the first American troops to enter Berlin, in 1945.
Remember the episode when Henry and Muriel thought their new boarders were terrorists but they were JUST gun collectors. And Muriel ended up calling the SWAT team? LOL Poor deluded old fogies. To be so paranoid . . . --okay that episode has NOT aged well and the audience would totally not see the humor in it.
A very good video. Lydia Cornell is one of my closest friends and I am therefore very protective of her when I see videos about her. However, as she has explained her relationship with Ted to me, this seems pretty accurate. Lydia is the kind of person who genuinely does not harbor negative feelings toward anyone and I can say that she does very fondly remember Ted.
Thanks for sharing, Steven. I tried to do my research before doing this video because I didn't want to get anything wrong. Sadly, it seems that I might have goofed about Deborah leaving the show and Lydia being dropped. Apparently, according to Lydia (yep, she connected with me), they were both written out of the program.
I'm right there with you, Dave. I was a HUGE fan of Lydia back in the 80s, cause I was a little kid and she was stunning. I really enjoyed Too Close for Comfort, and I thought being a comic strip artist was the COOLEST job to have as an adult. Ted Knight was such a comedic legend, and I still enjoy watching him in Caddyshack often.
I love that you reminded us that Ted Knight did voicework on Superfriends. As well as his great performances in Too Close for Comfort and on the MTM Show, he was in a great episode of the Twilight Zone. And yes, Lydia Cornell was very impressive to a young teenager in the 80s.
I loved Too Close For Comfort. I never knew why the show changed in that last season. The show just wasn't the same when Deborah and Lydia left. They really should have kept Lydia on the show. Lydia and Ted's working relationship was confusing but I think normal for the very reasons you pointed out. Great video!
The sixth season was actually the first season of a spinoff series, called “The Ted Knight Show”. They wanted to do another five seasons/100 episodes and sell the spinoff series into reruns, separately from Too Close for Comfort, which had already reached the 5 season/100 episode mark. But when Ted Knight passed away, they rolled the first season of the spinoff into the TCFC syndication package.
I know we all have said this to ourselves before but Dave's voice is so mellow is part of the enjoyment of watching his videos. I literally can listen for hours of him talking about old school television shows and actors
Lydia herself has told me that Ted Knight was one of those guys that was very serious about Comedy and was a very demanding presence of camera. She has said that it was her television grandmother Audrey Meadows that occasionally told off Ted When he was getting too rough on Lydia!
I met her at UCLA while I was a student, working in a campus restaurant. Her hair was darker, almost red. I came out and offered her a fresh muffin from the back. I was so nervous that when she asked me to sit down I said no. Lol When I turned around to go back to work about ten of my fellow student workers had gathered to cheer me on. I rarely blush but I man it was too much. If you still see her ask her if she remembers me giving her that fresh muffin.
I liked Deborah Van Valkenburg better. I thought she was so pretty and funny. She jelled with Lydia and that was nice to see. Lydia held her own though with both her and Ted. One of my favorite shows growing up. Just loved it!
If you're interested, Deborah was in the 1979 movie The Warriors. It was about a gang war in New York. One gang from Coney Island was blamed for the murder of another gang leader trying to bring all the NY gangs together. They tried to get back to their home base with other gangs chasing them. Deborah played a girl who fell in with them, and of course in those days, she just had to fall for their leader. The movie has become a cult classic. Probably can still find it.
It was interesting to see this video because I just happened to watch Super Password on Buzzr last weekend and Lydia was one of the celebrity contestants. It was originally shown the summer after her last season on Too Close for Comfort. She passed off her leaving of the show as "it's time to move on" but the tone of her voice saying it definitely exuded an "It's complicated." feeling in her response.
I loved Lydia on Too Close For Comfort as the ditzy blonde. The last season after her character Sarah and sister Jackie were written out of the show TCFC wasn't the same you felt the absence of the daughters. The show centered around Ted working at a News paper. He and Monroe would get into shenanigans. It hit me especially hard when Ted Knight died because he and my grandfather died of Colon cancer the same year.😣
Lydia was one of my first crushes, she's still a babe nowadays. Also, until I started watching the Honeymooners in HS, I knew Audrey Meadows as Ted Knight's mother-in-law in TCFC. STILL waiting for the blu-ray of the complete series. Dave, as always, you rock! 🎸🤘

@@jdsundstrom Hi, Dave ! Not only was Ted narrator for 1973's "Super Friends", but he'd previously worked for Filmation in the 60's narrating and voicing many of the characters that appeared in the cartoons from 67 & 68 that featured the DC Comics heroes, performing sometimes up to 12-15 characters in a 8-10 minute animated feature ! I'm doing some time traveling here, Dave, thanks to the RUclips Time Machine sending me back a year or more. I really loved Too Close For Comfort in a way I never connected with the Mary Tyler Moore Show. But the casting of Jm J Bullock as Monroe shook up the chemistry a little, and although I liked the character it seemed like Lydia and Deborah suffered the most screen time loss, and Monroe became a second Fonzie for ABC. I stayed with the show but missed some episodes during the 5th season and don't think I saw any after the first one of the Ted Knight Show. Sometimes you just know when a show is done and you just can't watch it die. It was only later that I heard about Ted passing, and I was floored. I hadn't known about the cancer. So my message is appreciate your loved ones today, as well as those who entertain you. Because you never know when them or you will be gone. Thanks Dave, and I appreciate you for your work on this unique channel. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 🌲✌️
In one episode, Lydia is holding a stack of record albums. The album on top was a record that I was on. It came out in 1980. Half the name was blacked out but there was no mistaking the moon, the palm trees, and the tiny rhino running across the sand.
There was a great episode of the show where there was a question about whether Lydia's character was accidentally switched at birth and not the couple's daughter. The episode implied that Sara was probably not theirs, but after a lifetime of raising and loving her, Sara was still theirs in their hearts. I would hope Ted still had some care for his on screen daughters despite the producer's decision to write the girls off the show.
This is the only exact same episode that popped into my mind when thinking about the character of Sara during this video. It was a really good episode.
Ted Knight also had an uncredited role as a uniformed policeman guarding the door to the room Anthony Perkins ( Norman Bates ) was locked in at the end of Psycho . You only see him briefly , maybe five or ten seconds . He also once guest starred as a bad guy on an episode of the old Get Smart series with Don Adams .
Lydia Cornell also had a memorable guest role on an early episode of Full House. She played DJ Tanner's Spanish teacher that fell in love with Danny Tanner. She had changed her look and the first time I couldn't place where I had seen her before, but when I caught a rerun of it then it struck me that she had been on Too Close For Comfort.
Thanks for this much anticipated upload, Dave. I too was of the age to definitely be part of that intended audience and was sold on the show after seeing Lydia in a towel the first episode.
@Dave Sundstrom I sure did, Dave. Did you check any of her recent RUclips uploads during your research? She has an incredible personality and is still unbelievably gorgeous!

This is the first time I've watched this channel, really a great video. You got a great speaking voice, great enunciation with a touch of fun. I used to watch MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW and TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. Great memories!
I remember the show fondly! There's a RUclips interview of Moe Howard (last of the gods known as the three stooges) and Ted's face was like a kid on Christmas morning 😆he was in total awe! Moe must've been his idol growing up. The interview is on RUclips.
I was totally surprised when I seen Ted Knight on Combat and 12 O'clock High. I didn't know that he could do drama that well. I believe that I seen him on The Untouchables aswell.

In one episode, Lydia is holding a stack of record albums. The album on top was a record that I was on. It came out in 1980. Half the name was blacked out but there was no mistaking the moon, the palm trees, and the tiny rhino running across the sand.
I loved to close for comfort...I loved j.m. Bullock and Ted how they were always at odds hysterical.... loved Ted in Mary Tyler Moore
Debra also played in the movie
The Warriors.
I heard George Gaynes hated Soleil Moon Frye.
I don't remember that episode. Thanks for sharing, Mike D.!
This is the only exact same episode that popped into my mind when thinking about the character of Sara during this video. It was a really good episode.
Wasn't the other family the one from *Gimme a Break* ?
Ted Knight also had an uncredited role as a uniformed policeman guarding the door to the room Anthony Perkins ( Norman Bates ) was locked in at the end of Psycho . You only see him briefly , maybe five or ten seconds . He also once guest starred as a bad guy on an episode of the old Get Smart series with Don Adams .
He was in two episodes of Get Smart. One episode in season 1 and the other in season 2. And even in 1965 he had white hair.
Also on the original “Twilight Zone”. He was in the episode where Jack Warden was the convict on the planet with the female robot.
@@willieholmes1483 I didn't know that , I'll check that out . Thanks !!
Thanks for sharing, TheSignGuy77!
Learn-somethin'-new-every-dayDept: I did NOT know "Ted Baxter" was the voice-over for Superfriends!
Thanks for this much anticipated upload, Dave. I too was of the age to definitely be part of that intended audience and was sold on the show after seeing Lydia in a towel the first episode.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Norton.
@Dave Sundstrom
I sure did, Dave. Did you check any of her recent RUclips uploads during your research? She has an incredible personality and is still unbelievably gorgeous!
Great Channel , well presented in a nice relaxed homely manner !

Great video! I really only knew her from that show and no where else. And even at that it was not in major rotation in my home. I do have to agree that she is beautiful!

Thanks Glenn!

Glad you enjoy it, Lucky Orion!
The theme song for the show alone was epic...classic. Miss this show and don't forget Jim Bullock
Both young actresses were very pretty.
Ted Knight was one of my all time favourites. Loved him on the best comedy show of all time ...... The Mary Tyler Moore Show..
Touching story!
She was gorgeous and I regretted not getting her white bikini poster that one and only time I saw it at Walmart.
Use to love too close for comfort used to be a good show growing up in the 80s was awesome
The 80s definitely were a great time to grow up.

I was nine years old when this show came on. I definitely noticed Lydia. My hormones were just starting to turn on.
You're a few years younger than me, CB!
I was 11 and knew I liked what I saw even if I didn't know why
I used to love that show as a kid. She was very easy on the eyes.
I love that show. Another oldie but goodie.
@ 5:35 that's a Great shot of Lydia !!!
I can’t believe I never noticed that Ted was the narrator for Superfriends.
This is the first time I've watched this channel, really a great video. You got a great speaking voice, great enunciation with a touch of fun. I used to watch MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW and TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. Great memories!
I was five years old when this show aired and I still remember it. Lydia is dam beautiful. Was a good show.
I loved the show. Beautiful ladies and great show ❤
My brothers and sisters and I watch this show growing up. It was so funny and witty.
Damm i was 5 years old 1980 when this show started i like the theme song
I remember the show fondly! There's a RUclips interview of Moe Howard (last of the gods known as the three stooges) and Ted's face was like a kid on Christmas morning 😆he was in total awe! Moe must've been his idol growing up. The interview is on RUclips.
I Google Lydia Cornal. She turned 68 this year. She was 27 years old in 1980 when the 1st season of Too close for confront started.
I saw a recent photo of Lydia Cornell and she looked well preserved for 68 years of age. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
@@harperstacey9604 I know I saw recent picture of her too. She looks much younger than her age.
I was totally surprised when I seen Ted Knight on Combat and 12 O'clock High. I didn't know that he could do drama that well. I believe that I seen him on The Untouchables aswell.
92nd! Heyy Dave....Love that show..well anything Ted Knight was in....as a kid of the 60's-70's-teen years ....I loved that show too ....I had a crush On Monroe too - I knew he and I had something in common
