We had a Briggs deprived of oil at the crank due to metal shavings in the oil jet. Warranty covered it but it blew the rod. The metal transfer was ridiculous.

Well, the Kooler fail is due to owner neglect. No fault of the Koler Engine. Kawi modified their engine oil to eliminate the valve problem. Think I'll use Kawi oil in my new Bad Boy 25hp zero turn. Good vid. Thanks.

I may have some info pertaining to Kohler Confidants overheating. I have a Confidant (EZT750) in my mower, and it developed a leak last season. Made a mess, so I decided to pull the engine, clean up the engine & mower, and determine where the leak was. The leak was the oil filter. It had loosened about 2/3 of the way through the season. I check the oil every use, and just kept topping it off. So it never ran low on oil. I took it outside, sprayed it down with degreaser, and went to cleaning it. I sprayed water on the cylinders, and the water did not drain. Meaning... air wasn't flowing well either. I'm lucky my engine didn't self destruct. I don't know if this is a common problem with the Confidants, but it's something to look out for. It has shrouds around the cylinders to direct the air, and those have gotten clogged with dirt and oil. They look like a pain to remove, as there are things mounted to them, but I have to get those passages cleared.

Why the hell would Kohler put an oil pump in a plastic housing with plastic drive gears? I have personally seen two Kohler's ruined from oil starvation when the plastic oil pump drive gear cracked. This seems under engineered but the maintenance was a cause on one for sure. I have learned a few trick on increasing oil pump pressure to ensure the flywheel side case bearing doesn't starve. I have also seen vids of three big v-twin manufacturers having valve guides walk out because of overheating. I recommend removing the head tins periodically to blow grass and debris outta the cooling fins for assured air flow.

Got a question. When you change a motors , can you replace with a larger HP motor , will the mounting holes match up . I have a Scag Tiger cat ll with a Kaw FX 691 V 22 HP . I'm not happy with the lack of power when mowing thick & tall grass. I would like to replace with a bigger motor like the FX 801 V or the next larger . Is that doable ? I have an old John Deere Z445 with a 25hp Kaw FS 721V . It is only a slightly bigger motor and a residenttal model at that but it mows tall grass so much better than my newer Scag . My mower deck is worn out on the Deere but that Kaw motor just keeps getting it ! I blow my air filters out at the end of every day and keep sharp blades . Change oil every 50 hrs. Which is better , straight 30w or 10w30 ? I use the latter , is that good ? Thanks , enjoyed the video !

Love my Kawasaki FR651V 6 years in never an issue. I run Mobil 1 10w-30w and change the oil on a regular basis. Only gripe I have with my Kawasaki is sometimes after I shut it down and go to re-start it sometimes floods when re-starting. Only Kohler engine worth owning is the Kohler Command IMO:P

I do maintainance on my kawasaki engine religiously. One time I took of the air filter to blow it off with compressed air then put it back on, but I got distracted and didn't tighten the key on the clamp. The next time I checked it (after a couple mowings) I noticed what I had done. I looked into the air intake and saw a large sweeping dust pattern going into the engine. I was sick to my stomach. After all the attention I give to my engine, one distracted moment and my kawasaki will probably fail soon like this one☹.

Run it full throttle when doing work. 3600rpm is full throttle and everything in this engine is designed to handle it. From the piston rings to the exterior cooling fins.

    Question Jeremy,
I got a SCAG Tiger Cat II with the Kawasaki FX691V rated at 22 hp. Got about 95 hrs on it now and only use if for my residential yard about an acre. This is my first Kawasaki, ran a Grasshopper 616 with a V-Twin Briggs for about 20 years until I bought this SCAG. I run the Kawasaki 20W-50 oil and changed it at 25 hrs as recommended by the manual and I'll change it again at 100 hrs. Occasionally when I start it up, it bellows out blue smoke (oil smoke) not black smoke like flooding gas. I first thought the rings would seat and this would go away but it still does it on occasion. Is this a common thing with this motor? My V-Twin was a vertical cylinder engine and this Kawasaki is Horizontal which may contribute to some oil collecting in the cylinders if things stop in a certain place when you shut it off. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

Totally normal to have a plume of smoke at start up on an engine that isn’t broken in yet. My brand new fr691 does it. Haven’t met one yet that didn’t. The main cause is overfilling the oil. I keep my oil level between the marks in the dipstick
