A few weeks ago I purchased this Kawasaki twin cylinder mower engine from a local scrapper @ScrappingwithGrandpa . Lets see if we can get this engine to run and see what could be wrong with it. I didn't have any history on this engine. I am able to use my engine test on this project to make sure that it works and will be a great tool for future use.
I would like to see what the problem is. Good idea on engine stand
Thank you. I’ll make a video on the tear down.
Definitely rebuild it.😊
Two days ago I made my first contact with a local scrapper just by accident while running errands. Saw a guy with an equipment trailer full of what looked like scrap with a couple mower handles peeking out above the other stuff. Pulled into the parking lot and had a look. Bought an old, very rough Honda HR194 push mower with a solid deck for $10. He’s going to keep an eye out for a portable air tank I could use as well as my first zero turn. Says he’s scrapping a local landscaper soon who has a huge amount of equipment.
His girlfriend is looking for a generator and I have one in my scrap yard which might be the right one!
Asked him to send me photos of anything he sees that I might want. I told him I’m really only looking for high end machines at this point since I already have too many mid-range equipment to restore.
I’m also a baker and he’s willing to trade! Win-win!
That is most certainly a win win. Keep building those relationships and the machines will keep coming.
Definitely an autopsy and that would determine if it’s worth repairing. If not you already have it apart to scavenge parts off of it
For sure. I’ll have to tear down and make a video on what we could be dealing with.
Last weekend me and my dad fixed a Kawasaki FR730V that was Blone up and we fixed it and got the lawn mower running
Heck yea that’s awesome!!! It would be great to see this one run again.
How long it take you and how much😊
Great video.
Well, I see three options here:
Option # 1
Two new connecting rods, valve guides and seals, rings kit, new spark plugs and honing the skirts should run you for about $500 on parts (tops), plus your labor time.
Option # 2
You can get a new FV-691 series @ 22 HP for about $1500.00, and use this one for spare parts (Heads, Block, Crank, Etc).
Option # 3
Go to your local H-Freight
Store and get a predator engine for about $950.
Although I don't know how reliable Predator Engines are.
Sometimes, when the damage is so extensive, is better to let "The Ghost" Go, and get a new motor
The cheap alternative to all of this is: Properly maintained equipment.
Oil is cheap.
Good, Thx. Do the autopsy & see if it's worthwhile for the $$
I would like to see you rebuild this engine. Rebuild jobs are always fun to watch. 😊👍🏿
I think your doing a great job of bringing us some good content. You at least have some good parts for other engines. The starter alone was well worth the $20. My experience with blown engines is that it usually breaks something in the block, but you wont know until you tear it apart. I dont know if you sell parts like Henry, but he makes good profit doing that. Goodluck Alex. I will be interested in how well the White zero turn mower turns out! ✌🇺🇸
Thank you Roger. Yes I talked with Henry the other day for a bit and he gave me some great tips and insight on things. He told me a bit about the eBay parts selling as well. Seems like there is good money to be made. I’m excited to finish the zero turn and show everyone part 2. I hope you are doing well my friend.
Great work Alex. I say rebuild it! Also, you got some good views on this engine-only video. Nice!
I’m hoping it’s not too bad inside but I’ve already looked on eBay for a couple parts just to see prices. I greatly appreciate you stopping by. I was just trying to get a weekly video out and this was my only option 🤣. Seems like the response was really good though.
I bet your glad you used old oil lol. I say lets find out what happen inside. Thanks for another great video Alex. I look forward to them every week.
Thank you so much!!! Yes I’m glad I didn’t waste new oil just to find out what we did. I would like to see and show everyone what happened inside. It would be great to rebuild but we will see what kind of damage we are looking at. I greatly appreciate the support :).
I want to buy one to learn more about the valves and how they work and to work on a new project love the engine and try new things great buy on one hope the other one work out
I think if you've done an autopsy check out what's going on with it and I can't wait for that video thank you for the video
Will do. Thank you 😎🇺🇸
That could be a good parts engine but I'm also curious if there is any other damage besides the connecting rod
I’m curious as well. I’ll be doing a tear down video on this one.
Hey parts never hurts especially Kawasaki I don't see a lot of those 👍
For sure. I’m going to tear it down and make a video. I’ll have to see if it’s worthy of repair.
If you ever need a coil, i know those are $75 a piece. Great for parts!
Alex if you want to rebuild it that would be cool. Haven’t seen one of these rebuilt before
Never done one before. I’ll have to see how extensive the damages are. Thank you.
Hopefully it can be rebuild
Would like to see you test out the vanguard you picked up also.
For sure. I’ll make a video on that one as well. They are good engines.
Sorry I didn’t get to this one before you posted the followup, Alex.
How did you bolt the engine to that frame since with pressure washers the engine and the pump bolt to each other? Would have liked to have seen that. I have a pressure washer frame I’ll be setting up for the same purpose.
Yes, I use old oil to test engines too. No need to waste money on fresh oil at that point.
I would have tested compression on the other cylinder just to have a better handle on overall condition, as long as you were there.
Great idea setting up a battery with leads to open the fuel solenoid. I was thinking that’s how you were going to shut the engine down as well! Oops! 😉
I should have shut it down with the fuel solenoid. I honestly didn’t even think about it in the moment. As for the mounting, I just figured out the spacing for the bolt holes and drilled a couple into the pressure washer plate.
Autopsy i second the motion. Alex i learn a lot from you brother Chris from OHIO gooooooo Buckeyes
Thank you so much. Comments like your make it all worth it and I enjoy sharing what I am learning or what I know already. I’m always trying to improve.
@@freedommowers420 Alex my brother. I'm looking a getting MY FIRST riding mower any suggestions on what to avoid Chris from OHIO
@@chriseisele9969 honestly if your looking for a machine that you can work on easily and are pretty tough. I would try and find a craftsman lt1000,2000 or another model similar. Also AYP made husqvarna mowers. Easy to work on and parts available. I would steer clear of anything with a plastic transmission, or a mower with the Chinese 420cc engine.
I’m curious if it sounds like the 730 on the bad boy. I started it yesterday without the muffler lol yes it does. Loud as crap! I got the rings for my rebuild. Just waiting on seals and gaskets.
Oh hell yea!! Can’t wait to see! Haha. Yea it was loud for sure. Certainly wasn’t expecting the smoke show 🤣🤣
@@freedommowers420 I’ll throw a short out with this one and no exhaust and a smoke show. Fortunately mine still moves both pistons
Great job on making a temporary way to get power to the anti after fire solenoid that engine was definitely a smoker
Thank you. I would like to make a stand with key switch for a little easier hook up, but this worked well.
@@freedommowers420 cool beans 🫘 there Alex maybe next time you can do the one with the key switch
I pulled plug and turned it over, just to make sure it clear of oil or water
Just being safe
WHERE IS YOUR FIRE EXTINGUISHER & GALLON OF WATER? WATER IS FOR EMERGENCY EYE FLUSH! COOL VIDEO
I have an extinguisher in the shop as well as a gallon of water. I’ve learned the hard way catching lawnmowers on fire. Thank you!! Safety gets overlooked a lot.
A rebuild would be nice probably good otherwise I would swap both pistons and rods if the working side has at least a minimum psi god luck
Dive into it i hope it's a easy fix
Thank you. I’ve got a lot of interest in the tear down so I’ll make sure to upload for everyone to see. I would really like to rebuild it.
Dang it. I wish it were better but either way neither one of us lost anything
It’s the nature of the beast. Regardless I’ll have some good parts or be able to rebuild. Thank you very much for the goodies!
Toss a Frag in spark plug Hole.
And say a prey this on e Parts .
If your lucky
It would be a good rebuild if all the parts are available and not crazy expensive or would be a great parts engine to keep a good mower going. It ran on one cylinder so it has heart and wants to live. It's just a little bit sick right now. My friend gasoline engines might not be around for much longer so might want to revive the ones that you can. You can do it. I know you can. Just what I would do.
I’m going to do my best to try and save this one unless the cost of parts is worth more than the engine fixed. Thank you so much for the kind words and confidence.
@@freedommowers420 your welcome my friend. When you get them goin they run powerfully and reliably. Got a 23 horse Kawasaki V twin on the turf tracer. That mower is truly unstoppable. They have a lot of heart and don't give up easily. It's worth it. Not to mention that they are pretty expensive to buy new. Oh and you can't beat that V twin rumble and roar.
@@shawndubay4050 I had a turf tracer last year. That Kawasaki v twin was buttery smooth. Unfortunately the wheel motor had given up on the hydro. Expensive fix!!!
Definitely do an autopsy. It will make a great engine for another tractor.
Right!! If it’s just a connecting rod it would be well worth a rebuild.
Do a rebuild
I would like to see an autopsy done on it to see what has failed
Awesome. I’ll make a video on it soon. Thank you.
Rebuild it
i would use it for parts
Thank you for the input brother. 🇺🇸😎
Parts
Give it to Tyrell Gas Rats Garage.
Boat Anchor
Deff a boat anchor on this one!!
them smokers keep the skeeters away.
That’s right!! 🤣💪💪
The autopsy would make for a good video…and perhaps you’d find out if a minor rebuild is in order.
Should would be nice if it just needed a connecting rod. I’ll make sure I get a tear down video.
Autopsy/rebuild if your please!!
Awesome. Seems like a lot of people want to see the autopsy.
16:10
I think you should do an autopsy on it for the educational purposes. Keep it for parts. Seems to me you got plenty of machines to work on. The parts off of that will pay for itself in no time. And it's just that much more YT content!
Yes. I would like to repair it if possible but I’ll film a tear down video and see where we are at. I have plenty of projects that could either use the parts or a whole new engine
Autopsy and then make it a parts motor!!
Parts machine more than likely
ill say fix it I would
Thank you.
Fix it
I would just throw a used connecting rod in
That’s what I was thinking. I’ll have to see what the damages are.
Autopsy it .😊
I’ll be working on that video this week. Thank you!
