I had the same model from 1969, and it had a wick and tray reservoir that I filled with alcohol and lit.
    Thanks for posting.

Nice relaxing video. Your helping me too decide which engine to go for.

Great video Jim. I've not seen one of those modern Mamod Traction Engines with the piston valve before. I like your vertical transmission unit 👍👍 Cheers, Alan.

Thanks Alan, they are nice improvement that Mamod came out with and that transmission is very handy. I also made a horizontal. Nice to be able to run accessories at realistic speeds. Take care mate with Covid.

Great setup. :) There are more than on/off with the regulator. ;) How slow could you run the engine and still have it hammer away? :)

Yes the regulator is very good on these, just needed fully on for going through that transmission as it really gears it down a lot on the smallest setting.

I am curious how slow you could have the engine go and still have the hammers at a good speed. With the transmission, better gearing could be found.

@@c55427 They are very small engines and the flywheels don't have a lot of weight. The slower they go, the power they have drops dramatically.

is the flywheel press fitted to the crankshaft and is it possible to replace it with one that normally fitted to the standard traction engines.
does they engines spitt oil out of the steam pipe?

Man oh man, what a nice transmission you have. I bet you built it. Fantastic set up! Also it looks like you were able to join that green belting. Maybe share how you did it? Thanks!

Hi David, yes I built this vertical transmission and also a horizontal transmission. They are great to be able to run accessories at a more realistic speed. The belting is a new batch, one I bought was faulty and couldn't be joined. I have joined this for years and its a simple procedure. Just hold each end over a small flame for a few seconds and then hold each end together for about a minute and then leave it alone for about 5 minutes and then use a nail clipper to clean up the excess and make it smooth and it will be a virtually unbreakable join.

Where did you get that oiler?
