      Every country though this thing in the 90s, when north korea was struck by one of the greatest famines in korean history(aka the Arduous March). But it didn't. Many people had this illusion when Kim Jong-il died and politcally less stable Kim Jongun came to power but it didn't.

    I'm no expert in geopolitics but I've heard that a reunification between both Koreas is possible and that South Korean are totally supportive of this idea. To be honest, that's a scenario I like a lot more.

    • @Will-yu9ck
      @Will-yu9ck 6 лет назад +59

      No it is not possible, the world doesn't work that way just like how there is still poverty in the world. Millions of brainwashed North Koreans are not going to change overnight and stop putting words into the South Koreans, you are not their spokesperson.

    • @katrielsigala3684
      @katrielsigala3684 6 лет назад +29

      Both Koreas want a unified Peninsula, though with them being the one who dictates how the unified country is run. However, neither China nor Japan would be thrilled with the prospect, seeing as a strong Korea is a potential threat to either of them, and it would upend the power dynamic of East Asia.

      Dr. Zoidberg well, this one would be a quick and easy war. Most of North Korea's military technology is decades behind that of the rest of the world, as well as the US and South Korea severely outnumbering the North Koreans, they wouldn't stand a chance, unless China steps in like last time.

  • @Aipe97

    After hearing so much about the consequences of a NK collapse, I still wonder, what are the solutions? Let it collapse eventually? Build a better infrastructure to support the refugees? Somehow help NK stay afloat while convincing it to stop the nuke thing? Let another country invade it quickly before they can respond to bring order to the land? I really want to hear solutions because so far it seems like it's only doom and gloom.

      Red army it would go bankrupt over night. Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Turkey would isolate them. They would close the boards and all traffic of any kind would be stopped.
      Since the Kurds don't control any coastal areas there would be a landlocked country that would be at the mercy of it's neighbors.
      So basically overnight it would be the most remote and isolated country in the world. It would probably have all air traffic and land traffic closed permanently. It would possibly lose all telecommunications services as well as phone and internet access.
      There would be no way for anything to get in or out of the country. So it would either become very poor and self sufficient. Or just failed state that will act as a Recuirting group and hide out for Islamist groups.
      It won't last very long as it would have all hostile countries surrounding it. They would fund any groups that are based in it that would destabilize the country and allow for it to be taken apart again into the other countries that it was once apart of

      North Korea launching nukes would be suicide. They've just gotten their program off the ground, and the US has 1400 warheads ready to launch at a minutes notice, with 2800 more sitting on the shelves. That's not counting the ones marked for decommissioning.
      North Korea has 27 cities. 27 American warheads, and there's be nothing left but the next Fallout game. That's what would happen if they lanuch a nuke at the US. The only reason the US hasn't made a strike first is because they'd then be fired upon by China, and maybe Russia, if they made that first strike.

      The difference is that North Korea is a Regime with a Pre-1950's mentality. Should they do something foolish, millions would die real fast, and the global economy would get wrecked.
      Also, Israel is an Ally of the US. Israel is dependent on US support

      As far as i know israel didn't start any of those wars. You can argue that the mere existance of israel is unfair and that started all the rukkus, but that is not really israels fault.

    As US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, the US’ top “diplomat” and his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong-ho headed for the annual Ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Manila on 5th August, a State Department spokesperson said of Tillerson:
    “The Secretary has no plans to meet the North Korean Foreign Minister in Manila, and I don’t expect to see that happen”
    Pathetic. In April, approaching his hundredth day in office, Trump said of North Korea:
    “We’d love to solve things diplomatically but it’s very difficult.”
    No it is not. Talk, walk in the other’s psychological shoes. Then, there they were at the same venue but the Trump Administration clearly does not alone live in a land of missed opportunities, but of opportunities deliberately buried in landfill miles deep. This in spite of his having said in the same statement:
    “There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea. Absolutely.”
    A bit of perspective: 27th July 2017 marked sixty four years since the armistice agreement that ended the devastating three year Korean war, however there has never been a peace treaty, thus technically the Korean war has never ended. Given that and American’s penchant for wiping out countries with small populations which pose them no threat (think most recently, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya) no wonder North Korea wishes to look as if it has some heavy protective gear behind the front door, so to speak.
    Tiny North Korea has a population of just 25.37 million and landmass of 120,540 km² (square kilometres.) The US has a population of 323.1 million and a landmass of 9.834 MILLION km² (square kilometres.) Further, since 1945, the US is believed to have produced some 70,000 nuclear weapons - though now down to a “mere” near 7,000 - but North Korea is a threat?

    One way i think another conflict in the Korean peninsula could ignite would be if an Extremist faction (one that truly believes in North Korean superiority) within the Regime successfully conducts a Coup d'etat and mobilizes troops against the South.

    "America has fifteen military bases in South Korea - down from a staggering fifty four - bristling with every kind of weapons of mass destruction. Two bases are right on the North Korean border and another nearly as close. See full details of each, with map at (1.)"
    "North Korea also has the collective memory of the horror wrought by the US in the three year conflict on a country then with a population of just 9.6 million souls. US General Curtis Lemay in the aftermath stated: “After destroying North Korea’s seventy eight cities and thousands of her villages, and killing countless numbers of her civilians … Over a period of three years or so we killed off - what - twenty percent of the population.”
    “It is now believed that the population north of the imposed 38th Parallel lost nearly a third its population of 8 - 9 million people during the 37-month long ‘hot’ war, 1950 - 1953, perhaps an unprecedented percentage of mortality suffered by one nation due to the belligerence of another.” (2)"
