I was thinking about instead of removing the plate mount, cutting it half way and then mounting the plate on to the stub with some drilling screws and attaching a small LED plate light. I am keen on mounting the plate on the side in a vertical position, but havent found any kits for that.. what do you think?

I’m in the UK and fitted an Evotech tail tidy in late 2022, which is very similar in its fitment.
Just like the Mustard kit, I think it makes the back end look SO much better.
For anyone considering fitting either make, it’s a lot easier to do if you have stand to allow you to remove the back wheel.

I forgot to specify which light. The license plate light is the one I was asking about. Sorry. I just got the same bike Tues.,2023 model. Thanks for the videos. I am trying to get some ideas on what I want to do.
Ended up getting one from J+Tech for $50. Looks just like the one from Mustard. No instructions. Came with a single piece of paper that had links to two install vids. One was dead. The other was for the Puig version. I think the CB in that vid was in Europe because the orange and blue connectors under the seat also had a white connector with each one. Mine doesn't and didn't matter. No talking, only music. I switched between your vid and the Puig vid. Yours was more helpful. The one good thing about the J+Tech model was that there's not cutting and splicing wire. You pull the whole original wiring out from the fender to the source. You just have to remove a plastic cover and small air intake tube to disconnect and connect the extensions they give you to run to the blinker wires. Also didn't need to use the black bar that came in the kit, just like yours. Overall, way cleaner and don't have to look at that ugly fender.

can we install the cb1000r's default tail kit to cb650r ? I am going to get cb650r but dont like to long tail. I liked to plate is in the back tire.

The light for the license plate or the turning signal? The license plate light is fixed, but you can theoretically remove the turning signals if you wanted to.
I got everything done but the wiring. The dash doesn't come on and turn signals don't illuminate. When I connect the power directly to the battery it all lights up.
Did your bolts for your plate line up without issue? I just received my tail tidy from Mustard and only ordered bc of your videos but it seems like the plate holes don’t line up for TN tag. Keep up the work man enjoy your content.
I think that it was a little tight, pushed up against the lamp, but it fit for me.

Does the mustard mount bring the turn signals close together so they don’t stick out as much?
No, not really. But I’ve installed an integrated tail light that removes the turning signals.
