It looks like we have one pumpkin. I picked one courgette yesterday...probably the last. Its tempting to polytunnel the whole veg garden...honestly! So much does so much better under cover here.
Looking fantastic Steve I have pruned and pruned my tomatoes 🍅 so hopefully they will be less unruly. Zephyr is my favourite and I grow lots. Have a fab weekend, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
Blight finally hit my outdoor tomatoes so we have a big bowl of green tomatoes. I disinfected them in the hope the blight might not have penetrated. Now I have no idea if they will ripen. I still have a lot in the polytunnel thank goodness. Probably give up on outdoor toms as this happened three years ago too. We do get wetter summers now.
Lots looking good steve, my results are pretty much in line with yours. My sarpo mira have that fungal disese too. They got it last year and i panicked and thought it was blight and cut the tops off, which affected the yield. Ive left them this year. Ill grow sarpo axona next year. I also have one or two crown prince per plant. Should i be pinching out the growing tips now? Sorry i didnt make the open day. Had too much on here. Maybe next year! All the best- Alison.
I'm pleased your squash finally set fruit Alison! It's strange how sarpo mira seem to susceptible to disease, given their reputation, but I've found them to get worse each year, I suppose the diseases are out-competing them now. I'm a bit lazy with pruning Alison, I rarely pinch out tips, I figure the plants know what they are doing and I've never experimented. I only prune mine when they are causing problems by growing into other crops.
i love your apple trees so small but packed with fruit can you please tell me which variety this is , its definately something id like to add to my garden
Are the Lemon Dream a chilli Steve? I grow a Lemon Drop which is hot enough for us. I did try those multi colour mini snacking sweet peppers but had no joy for two years.
To save me going back through your growing journal, what variety of peppers do you grow? I've said it before and will say it again, you just amaze me with how much you grow! I've done Barry's Crazy Cherry tomatoe for the first year, just made the other half do a taste test, he turned his nose up because it was yellow but I made him try it regardless, there was lots of oooh's and ahhhh's safe to say he liked it and i will be growing them again next year! i have seeds if you would like to try! 🙂
New Ace, Akron, Lemon Dream and Bright Star, thanks for the offer of the tomatoes! I've actually got some of those for next year, have you tried growing them early? : All the best - Steve
8 years of working on slug control, see my ebook chapter on that. Although I planted new lettuce plug plants and I lost about 10% to slugs, I have spares though
I didn't have any either until July, no fruit set in June as it was too cold, then boom, 19 squash set in July and grew so fast, although I'm losing a few now as the weather cools
@@SteveRichardsthis year has been crazy. I’ve had no courgettes 😂 but my cucumbers outside are fantastic, last week I had 14 off 3 plants! I don’t hold out for toms, the blight has hit our allotment. Green beans have been great! Have a good weekend….

But the outdoor cherries will probably have given you hundreds of fruits before blight arrives?
@@SteveRichards the ones in hanging baakets and stacker tubs aee coming on great.
Hi Steve, allotment looks great. What type of wood do you use for the beds? Cheers, Stephen
Just ordinary treated timber, modern copper based treatments seem pretty safe to me : All the best - Steve
I have never grown a black tomato. I think Red Moon has to go on my list. They look beautiful.
They are lovely, they ripen to a smoky red colour
Where did you get the seeds?
@marypaul21 premier seeds

Omg so productive, why have your lettuce not been obliterated, by slugs

Mine have! They were infested!
I have beautiful butternut squash plants, plenty of flowers and NO squash! 🤷🏼♀️

Don't the cabbages loik pretty? They are good enough to grow as ornamentals but here the caterpillars woukd make them shabby.
I’ve never had a big issue with caterpillars on red cabbage, the leaves are so thick!
