- In our CHELSEA FLEA MARKET: BEST THRIFTING IN NYC video, we walk around the Chelsea Flea Market in New York City with our dog Hudson. We check out the high-quality antiques, unique vintage items including clothes, vinyl records and jewelry and architectural salvage and other collectibles. This flea market once sprawled over 7 different parking lots in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan and was frequented by artists including Andy Warhol, interior and fashion designers. We spotted the famous journalist, Michael Musto and Lynn Yaeger, Vogue fashion editor thrifting there on Sunday, November 8, 2020 when we filmed this video.

About JamesandKarla:
Hey everyone! We are husband-and-wife architectural/interior photographers based in NYC. We started our video channel to act an artistic intervention to help raise awareness of the importance of small independently-owned businesses and the unique character these shops add to the streets and neighborhoods of New York City.
In our videos we will showcase portraits of storefronts and shop owners in New York City & beyond and capture moments of city life that capture the spirit, energy and cultural diversity of individual neighborhoods. We also bring our dog, Hudson along whenever we can.
We made it our mission to thoroughly document unique 'mom-and-pop' stores when we began to notice the alarming rate at which they were disappearing. Our critically acclaimed books include “STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York”, “New York Nights”, “STORE FRONT II- A History Preserved” and “Broken Windows-Graffiti NYC”.

You were there on a Sunday. The better vendors are there only on Saturdays. Mark Steve Aron in the ally way selling comic books & Pete The Greek selling rare coins & stamps. They are there only on Saturdays.

You most certainly would love visiting the Chelsea Flea Market as there are a few vendors which have a good selection of vinyl but also a vendor with lots of postcards and old photos and he may also have old cards that you would like. We are sorry to hear that the Coronavirus is hitting Buenos Aires hard right now and that Ana’s sister is not well. We hope she recovers quickly and that you both stay healthy. Brimfield and the week before Merier's flea markets are the biggest best!! Have to take 2 weeks and also do the antique shops!! You get better deals at the shops!!
Just subscribed and liked. I was charmed by a flea market type place in my new home of Virginia Beach. Of course, it can't compare with the Chelsea Flea Market and yet it holds its own, has a good bit to offer for what it is. I love it actually.
The glass bottles you were admiring from an old pharmacy are actually new reproductions made to look old. The real ones did not have the plastic and nylon on the bottom of the stoppers. You have to be careful because they reproduce everything now.

Thank you so much Mafatone. Different vendors varied in prices starting at $3 but many were unmarked as far as price and you had to ask and then haggle which is part of the fun!

@@mafatone the prices vary widely in different places but the best place for bargains is hands down at the Thing in Greenpoint Brooklyn, which we highlighted in a video we filmed last year! Not sure if you watched it but it’s a thrift store but the entire basement is filled from floor to ceiling with vinyl and there is lots of vinyl in the back of the shop too with a turntable you can try vinyl out on.

For the vendor's sake I hope it got a lot busier and had people buying lots of stuff. I live several hours away from the city and thought about being a vendor, but they charge $200.00 dollars a day and not one video of this market had many customers and it never looked like people were buying anything. I hope I am wrong.

Hi Rafael, Yes the Chelsea file market is still open every Saturday and Sunday. There is no phone number as it is located outside in a parking lot.
