I believe Martin Schanche.s Escort cost him around 50K pounds back then. That'd be somewhere around 115K pounds today. Or around $150,000 US. I can't remember the cost of modern day rallycross cars, but I think it's something like $250,000. So the cars back then weren't quite as expensive as they are now, but they were definitely pricey.

I've just checked it and the internet is saying £60k in 85 is £185k in 2020 ..I'm very certain you couldn't build one today for that
