Damn. So close. I didn't care about this show before Ballum (and I know I'm not the only one). But Phil Mitchell comes across as a narcissist and abuser. Based on what Ben has said about their relationship in the past, the gaslighting, emotional volatility, and ultimatum he gave him here (which is so unfair and never the responsibility of another) I'm just so incredibly sad and disheartened. Ben says that he no longer cares about what his dad thinks of him and all that, but that's not true because the fear and anxiety in his voice highlighted the kid who still loves and cares for his dad and wants his acceptance. Unfortunately, I think this narrative also mirrors a lot of people's lives (minus attempted murder). This right here is the magic of performance and fiction. Bravo.

He must have a very strong heart and mental health to pull that through! Despite all the nasty things Phill did to him Ben is actually a good and decent son. If my dad was ever in this situation then my mum,younger brother,younger sister and I would be like Ben and help him battle those demons (even tho he doesn't drink) and stop him from doing something he will regret.
