You should put a little badge on each engine "Carefully hand built by....." with your squiggle on it!

Hey Mike, glad to see that there is at least one more person in the world that could use another two sets of hands when reassembling an engine in the workshop.

I could have done this on the floor but filming is a bugger and too cold to work outside on the steel bench - you cannot win!

R380 reverse light switches work perfectly as flywheel timing tools for 2.5 engines (12J through to 300Tdi), and possibly the 2.25s too. They’re just as accurate though not as robust as the proper pin you have. A failed one should be free from the scrap bin at a local LR garage!

I use the same - and its spring-loaded!

Hi Mike. I use a double ended ring spanner bolted to a bell housing stud and the other end of the spanner bolted to the flywheel at the clutch bolt thread to lock the flywheel.

Hi Mike. Another educational video with lots of real time tips. Could I ask you regarding the other wider slot on the flywheel, what is it for. Thanks

Decades ago, I got a 110 for pennies. Either the engine or gearbox was seized, never found out! But My best Mate was home just after I got it, before anything was done. He worked for a Nationalised Industry.😉 "Don't do anything, I'll phone You"
Two weeks later, " I need engine and gearbox as a unit, borrow Your Dad's trailer, go to red star and pick up the box. But You must stick the box with Your crap back in the next day and call me!"
Everything, all ancillaries. The whole shooting match, including exhaust gaskets and nuts, had to buy fluids! Best tax rebate I ever had! 👍😁

Do ye not have a plastic milk bottle crate or similar to lower the engine onto, just to stop the bugger swinging about and trying to get away from you? 'Tis already on a crane, so 2 seconds to throw something underneath and rest the engine on it..not full weight, but just enough to catch and stop her spinning.

well mike, and if you make video of the 20th engine rebuild- everyone can learn something new in every each one. so dont worry to send vids of engine rebuilds and i hope the folks apreciate your effort you do.
only to imagine that you tape this vids before your actualy work is starting just make me speechless and i apreciate it a lot.
just one question, comment. if you put any liquid on the bolts threads - that will increase the torque up to 25%, at least thats what they say. so if you torque the flywheels bolts to 146 pounds with this threadlock, means you actual torque it to roughly 180pounds. isnt that a bit to much? well, i imagine you do it all your life and nothing happens - but just a thought -
isnt it much safer and enough to torque them dry to factory specs?
anyway - big thx for your effort sharing your expertice

If a torque wrench clicks out at 146 then the torque is 146.
