I’m a field service heavy equipment mechanic also. The company spent money for the crane on my service truck and I’d hate to offend them by not using it haha. I Use it for batteries all the time 👍
Last time I didnt use my crane for batteries I blew my back out, its not the weight its the awkward motion required to get it into to the inconvenient spot. 3rd arm definitely worth using!
Good tip! My pin driver is actually an old chunk of drill steel, I need to redo it with a chunk of cable or hydraulic hose to take up vibrations. I built it in the field in a pinch and haven't changed it since.

10-4 on the horizontal swing press. I have a shaft probably 1 & 1/2 times the size of yours, during the day of Budd wheels stud breakage was common. I built a fixture to set the wheel hub in and used the shaft to use as a vertical press to press out and in new studs. A whole lot easier than a BFH and punch. What it cost me in 1988 for not having a crane from back blow out I could of bought top of line crane. I am a truck road service hence my crane usage is more limited, but I really like it for fan hubs, nice control with out fear of something slipping putting hole in radiator. But look at it this way now at 75 the gym is going to be my best friend. Nice video!
Build an aluminum drain pan with a low level expanded metal screen for your filters to sit on and have a stand pipe with the same quick connect as your oil evac hose to be able to "drain" the pan.
I’ve had people laugh at me for getting the crane out for a jack or something like that. I’ve had several trucks without cranes now I use it for everything.

I use my crane for anything that might be heavy. I tell all of the newer techs that I work with - "Don't be a hero." There is literally zero up side to trying to be a hero in this industry. Nobody is going to be impressed if you hurt yourself completing a job.
Back in the day i worked for Detroit Diesel and a guy there had a sling made to pick up an ingersoll 261 to pull head bolts. He would crane it from bolt to bolt. I laughed. Now i think its genius. Awesome rig
Always remember you have 1 body 1 life tools can be made and replaced not youre body thats how i see it so when i work i always use any tool on hand that can help out
The kind of guys that are talking shit about you using your crain to change batteries are the kind of guys that don't realize heavy equipment batteries are much larger then their wife's group 65 battery in her Ford Explorer.
Problem solve get you a 55gallon barrel cut the top of and get some steel net and three pieces of rebar drill some holes the side of the barrel and cut the steel net in a some what of a circle and lay the steel net inside of the barrel and put it in a corner of the dog house and rachet strap it in the corner
Had a co worker drive a track pin out with a sledge hammer got sent to the hospital from a chunk of the pin driver splintering off and going into his leg since then I won’t do tracks without a press
If i were you i would build a small trailer to carry new oil and your waste oil vac with a decent size waste oil resivoir. Just a thought. Then you dont have to carry it around all the time on your service truck.

I don’t know why you would you talk s?!$ about a guy using a crane while he works no matter what he’s lifting40lbs in a weird spot can definitely throw your back out or you slip while carrying a load, why not have the crane hold the load for you makes sense to me

On the "swing press" a section of drillpipe is awesome to drive bucket pins on larger wheel loaders.
