Great video. I cruised solo on Norwegian Getaway in February and had a fantastic time. I am single with no kids and enjoy travelling solo so much. Met so many amazing people and have an 11 day cruise booked for the end of Jan 2020 on the Epic with several of the other solo travelers I met. We have all booked solo rooms again as it is perfect for what I need. It is encouraging to see other like minded people doing what I am doing, as in I also very much enjoy going to theme parks and taking mini weekend trip by myself and seeing the world. My next big trip is in 2 weeks, I am flying to Amsterdam and driving around Europe for 17 days. Keep making videos and I will be sure to go and watch all of your previous ones.
I went on a solo cruise in 2016 and loved it. Going to do it again in 2021. People were really nice for the most part and the crew took great care of me. Highly recommended.
HEY EVERYONE! So I recently did a second solo cruise back in march of this year on the NCL Breakaway and made a mini documentary/review, CHECK IT OUT HERE ruclips.net/video/6auaykkwuA0/видео.html also if you liked this video check out my full NCL playlist of reviews of excursions, ships and trips. I went on a 7 day SOLO cruise on this same ship in 2012 , I was in my late 60’s. It is everything that you said it is and more, so if you are considering doing it, GO FOR IT. 02/19/2020
Thank you for all that info. I’ve been thinking of going and do a solo cruise for a while now. I’m always going on vacations with the family and since I’m single I can do a solo cruise and just have some ME time. I’ll will also do a solo European tour. Oh and the solo cruise will be my first cruise ever.
Great video. I plan on sailing solo for the first time. You are making me strong and overcome my fears of socializing and traveling solo. So i really appreciate your video. Thankyou! GOD BLESS
Just discovered your channel. Your videos have made me want to travel and explore more solo. Hope to do my first solo cruise soon. Thanks for videos and showing great example on how to enjoy life Mr Bucketlist!
You're welcome thank you! I'm currently on a solo cruise right now aboard wonder of the seas and its been amazing. I can't wait to share it with everyone.
Im really glad I found your videos. I have been wanting to do a solo trip but... you know. To hear that NCL has a program is a great place for me to start. Thanks for sharing!!
Great video! For most of my adulthood, I traveled solo. I'm an only child so I'm used to doing things I enjoy alone. I went on my first cruise with friends. I've been thinking about NCL for solo. There are things I want to do solo like travel internationally but I've become very cautious. I'm black, under 40, and rea;;y don't want to be in the cross hairs of any mess in other countries!
I couldn't agree anymore. There are certain places I wouldn't go without friends or family due to being black but thankfully on the ship it's in a controlled environment. Try it out and thanks!
I am glad I came across your video. I am in the same position as you. I don't know if solo cruising is for me, but I will give it a try. If you always wait until you can find someone to travel with, you may rarely go anywhere. After many years, I finally got a passport, and now since living in Houston, and only one hour drive away from Galveston, not having to pay for airfare, I am definitely going to plan a cruise. I am not even going to waste my time trying to find anyone to go with me...I am just going to do it...solo cruise! I have only been on one cruise, and really did not have the best time with the people I went with. I am so glad to hear that some ships have solo rooms...I had just made up my mind that I would have to pay two fares...was just going to wait until I got a real good deal. I will definitely inquire about a solo room. Thanks for your video...will look at your other videos!
Your welcome! Yes I agree dont wait on anyone to travel there so many options out there for solos. My first cruise was with my homeboy who just wanted to drink and girl chase the entire time and I hated it. My first solo cruise was the complete opposite I did what I wanted when I wanted and loved it. Never looked back lol
Nice review. I solo the NCL Bliss west coast in 2018. I have the same sentiments as you. Our most disorganized port was San Francisco, cut our excursion time in half. That was the port authorities fault. The complimentary food and specialty dining were spectacular. I think I am spoiled for any other buffet, and anything but freestyle dining.
Jason, if you’re flexible you can consider waiting until close to the sailing date and book when the cabin prices drop. You pay the cost by two but since the price has dropped sometimes you pay less than if you were travelling with someone at the original price. This would allow you to explore more cruise lines and have more cabin space.
Hi this is great you don't find that many RUclips on traveling on a cruise ship by your self. I suppose to go on Norwegian breakaway in August and I was kind of scared about doing it. Going by myself but I am do it I hope I can meet people.
Very informative video. I did my first solo cruise in November 2019, not on NCL. I had fun throughout the 4 day cruise. I met 1 person during an excursion. I don't drink and had my priority list of activities. Nobody approached me, by the way, and that was perfect for me. I know NCL is the best line for solos. My biggest hesitation about diving into the social aspect on Norwegian is being stuck with someone for the duration of the cruise if I sign up for the group dinners and shows. Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise. If you do ncl everything is optional. For dinner you dont have to sign up you just meet up at the certain time. I went to the first 2 then for the last 2 nights I did my own thing. You should check it out
Super Video! I especially liked how you begin describing the board of activities @4:14 point. That's a great way to choose your options onboard. This video is part 2--but--WHERE'S PART 1 OF YOUR REVIEW? THANKS.
I have Solo cruised several times. On Sky to Cuba as well as the Getaway. Both times I had a really good time. I loved the Solo room on the Getaway. I have also solo cruised on Carnival. With Carnival it’s a little more expensive. But once again I met great people and had an enjoyable time.. Great informative video.
Interesting video 👍🏽 I did my first solo cruise Christmas 2019 (search MsQueenRo if you are interested) I loved it and rated it high along with my other solo travels! People solo travel for diff reasons; I really enjoy my time alone so I wasn’t trying to be social but I also don’t mind it. I met some pretty cool people while cruising. I went on the NCL Escape. I didn’t participate in the solo program (on purpose) but I didn’t realize the program had a few extra perks. Maybe I’ll use it one day. U seem to have an interesting set of vlogs... I subscribed to view more.
Thankyou for the sub and view! Yea we had alot of ppl who were solo cruisers but didnt have solo rooms and still came to the meet ups, it was a good time you should try it. Checking out your channel now
Glad I came across you never done the solo package I been on there solo before but didn’t know all this information cool I can’t wait to go with ncl in the future
I have done studio rooms on both getaway and breakaway. Always meet nice people all over the ship. Have been on several cruise lines but Norwegian really takes good care of the solo cruiser. I did the epic last summer but with a friend had no trouble with embarkation or disembarking.
I disagree with you, married people take solo cruises also and it has nothing to do with issues in the marriage. I’m a married women and I’m going this year by myself and it’s a gift from my husband. He works a demanding job that doesn’t allow him to take off during certain times of the year that’s why I’m going by myself.
I'm in the same boat as you. Happily married, and still enjoy my solo cruise time. I get a lot more vacation time than my husband, and since I work from home, I find a "staycation" anything but relaxing. I just find it so much easier to do solo travel when and where I want to. My husband encourages me too.
Great info!!!!! Also a sometimes solo cruiser and didn't realize Norwegian had that great singles program! Also the price was LESS than solo cruising on Carnival
Thanks for the detailed review! When disembarking, do you have to leave your room and wait in the long line or can you wait in your room. I’ve heard people on carnival say that they wait in their room.
You're welcome! My last 3 cruises before ships went back to full capacity you were able to walk right off with no issue. Now you can either line up or wait in your room. On my most recent cruise in Alaska about two weeks ago, it took about 30 minutes to get off the ship.
Great review, I will be doing my first solo cruise with Norwegian, but I got a regular room and I am going on the Pearl, I am hoping they have solo cruiser meet ups and activities
I just sailed the Breakaway solo. I love to travel solo. Like you, I enjoy my quiet time and I also enjoy socializing. Love me some amusement and water parks as well. HMU if you in the Boston area :)
Hey ! Thanks so much for ur review. Im doing a solo cruise in april , so excited. One question tho , when i asked if we had our own cruise director to help with our bookings and activities i got told we didnt? Do u think they stopped having that recently?? Im so 😕 confused! Never cruised before so not sure how to get all that done without help. All the best!
Your welcome. WOW I'm hoping they didn't stop that. I know its only available through the solos program on NCL but you only get access to solos cruise directors on certain ships, the ships that have solo cabins. They don't help with the initial bookings just bookings once your on board. Hope this helps
Thanks for your video. Please allow me to add my feedback from my recent Mediterranean cruise from June 22-July 2. Maybe my comments can help someone thinking about booking this ship. It was just me. I booked an inside cabin and paid x2. Being solo I didn't mind the cabin, I actually thought it was nice. I can see how with family it might not work so well. I had a great cabin steward and most of the "working people" were really nice. My pros: Cabin steward, and other "working people", ports (I had 7 in 10 days). That's it for pros. I actually told my cabin steward that he was too good for this cruise line and this ship. My cons: The food in general was horrible. I live in Las Vegas. The cheapest buffet here in town would be better than the one on the ship. It was a joke. Food quality was nonexistent. I didn't expect much from a buffet but I couldn't believe how bad things tasted. The couldn't even make an omelette without burning it. Maybe if they were making it correctly in a pan instead of on a crepe iron it might have been better. Just the overall selection and especially the food quality was subpar. The dining room food wasn't much better. Very hit or miss. I would have the same thing on a different night and it would taste differently. I really enjoy eating in the dining room but never knew if what I ordered would be good or not. To be honest, I was embarrassed for them. This was not the quality type of food you would find in the dining room on a cruise ship. Things would come out cold, salty and taste like they were prepared way before you ordered them. Most the the staff were really nice. But even the servers would tell me they would get complaints on things tasting too salty. What I also didn't appreciate is that they wouldn't even enforce their own dress code in the more formal of the two dining rooms. I was was told to take off my baseball hat in the less casual dining room but people could wear shorts and beach attire in the more formal. I had three nights of specialty dining. I did two in Le Bistro and one in Cagney's. Le Bistro was excellent. Some of the best escargot I have ever had. Two wonderful meals there. GREAT service all around. I had the same waiter both nights. He would call me by name and seemed to really care about my dining experience. My interactions with the manager were also good. They treated me like a king. My night in Cagney's was not so good. My filet was perfect but my earlier courses were not so good. A crab cake with so much salt you could hardly eat it and lobster bisque soup that as another passenger put it, "tomato soup with a tiny piece of lobster." The service was just ok. That's my dining experience on the Epic. It really pissed me off that I constantly received voice mails marketing to me. Come on now. I'm on vacation and I can't avoid being spammed by the cruise ship I've paid to be on? There were a lot of things that were just marketing to get you to cruise again. So many places on the ship (events) just getting you to spend more money. The ship itself needs to be retired. Lots and lots of peeling paint all over the place, rust etc... The deck plans and overall layout of this ship are strange, but I knew that going in. It had the itinerary I wanted so I booked it. They changed one of my excursions and never even emailed me. I asked two different people at the excursion desk and both were totally rude. I heard about some other people who's excursions were completely canceled and they were not informed until they got on the ship. My overall experience on this ship was not good. I would never sail on NCL again. Poor food quality, constant marketing for future cruises, art, jewelry and anything they could make more money on. Try fixing up your ship or retiring it. Do something. Try buying some decent/good quality food instead of the nasty stuff you are currently purchasing. Sorry for the long review but if it can help anyone else, it was worth my time to write it.
No thank you!!! It's been some years since I've been on the ship, so it makes since about your current issues. I'll definitely leave it up to help others. Thank you for the detailed review!!!
Just go back to pricing so you could see there is single supplement as in other cruise line even on your studio cabin. Look at the base price for a cabin on double occupancy (try inside cabin). Then do pricing for only 1 person and compare. Most likely your studio price will double of the price for one person sharing a cabin, and sometimes, as a solo you will pay less on another cabin category than on the studios. They do have a great program but pricing, almost the same as other cruise lines. Note: NCL reduces prices significantly days prior to embarkation if not sold. Then you will see excellent pricing for solos!
Yea I've definitely done that. Usually the solo cabins see a hike of 100 to 200 dollars over the double cabin price per person. But your exactly right last minute deals are so cheap it's a gamble but it can really pay off if you time it right
You just described me perfectly as a SOLO. CRUISER…. Not “alone”, SOLO!! I enjoyed the EPIC to BARCELONA. Only problem about being a woman solo cruiser… was being hit on by the husbands that were pretending to be happily married to their wives.
LOL. Yea a majority of the guys and women I met in that solo program are out to mess around. It was really bad on my second solo cruise it became almost a form of entertainment. It happens lol
I did a solo cruise on the NCL escape last May. I didn't stay in the studio section, I had a oceanview cabin. I had a few conversations with people but didn't really meet anyone that I clicked with. I did visit the studio lounge a few times but only found older women in their 60s that weren't really talking. Also, The studio section doesn't appeal to me because the rooms are sooo small. I didn't find the service on NCL to be that good, but it wasn't bad either. If you're gonna cruise solo don't have a lot of expectations. I actually like celebrity better even though they really don't cater to singles. For me relaxation and lack of kids and large families is the key.
Hi Mr. Bucketlist.....Question. I'm going with a solo cabin on Norwegian Epic next year. I'm an older passenger (68) - is this suitable for granny as well as the young folks?
Definitely. On my first two solo cruises I was the youngest one there both times. I think the average age was about 62 and I didn't hear any complaints from them. Have a good cruise!
I'm officially "medically retired" and I plan on doing a lot of travel and most of those will be cruises if I love them as much as I think I will. Thanks for your video, it was really nice to get your perspective.
What bugs me is that I pay double for my solo cruise with Fred Olsen but I'm only going to eat half the damn food during the week! Just to rub salt in the wound I bought a drinks package but a few months later they were giving the package free!
Hi My friend first off I want to thank you for this video. I am also a 40 year old black guy as you can see👆🏾(profile picture) A want to go on a solo cruise. I’m from London England and want to go on a Caribbean cruise for New Years 2020. I am worried about meeting people what’s your opinion. Can you offer me some more advice please. Thank you my friend.
Your welcome & sure! It's not hard to meet people you have to make sure you go at the right time and ship. With New years you def SHOULD NOT have a problem, especially going to the Caribbean. I literally just came off another solo cruise and it was 10x better than this one, because I knew what to expect back in march and I'm working on that video right now so I suggest to check it out in a few days. Also a last tip, if you go solo, they have solo meet and greets (at least on NCL ships). My last cruise it was over 80 solos of all ages and race and we all became friends. Have fun!
MrBucketlist Thanks for the reply my friend, I’m travelling up from London England so I don’t want to make a waisted journey. do you think NYE on a ship would be busy?
Lol yea it was a 4 day cruise....BUT I am going on another solo cruise in 2 weeks which is a 7 night west Caribbean and after the drink package and 3 excursions it was about 1100 all together. So be careful

Thankyou!!! I'm glad to hear that sounds like a good life to me
I went on a solo cruise in 2016 and loved it. Going to do it again in 2021. People were really nice for the most part and the crew took great care of me. Highly recommended.

I'm glad you enjoyed yours as well. I'll be on my second solo cruise in 10 days on the NCL breakaway I can't wait!

Thank you so much for posting this! Super helpful. Definitely takes the fear and unknown out of solo cruising.
Your welcome! I'm glad to help
Hi l cruised on the ncl getaway x3. Caught a wonderful deal for $399. For the solo cabin...had a ball
I need to try to getaway I heard it's a great cruise. And that's a really good deal I'm jealous lol
Great videos and a lot of good information….planning on cruising solo with NCL…..I’m sooo excited
Thank you! Oh you'll have a blast!!!

I loved you video! You remind me of my brother who I love very much. I also subscribed. Keep up the good work.
Thankyou!
very good review, i always travel alone, just to relax, but some people asked so many questions and I don't like that.
Thank you. I agree with you I was trying to take a nap in the quiet zone and ppl kept asking me stuff until I covered my face with a towel lol

Thanks for the detailed review! When disembarking, do you have to leave your room and wait in the long line or can you wait in your room. I’ve heard people on carnival say that they wait in their room.

Thank you. I'm not sure about the pearl but I know NCL takes solo cruising serious so you should be ok
@@MrBucketlist Thanks, crossing my fingers, will update!
@tillallareoneluvThanks for asking, but sadly I had to cancel my trip , my grandmother had passed that same week. I will try again soon.
I just sailed the Breakaway solo. I love to travel solo. Like you, I enjoy my quiet time and I also enjoy socializing. Love me some amusement and water parks as well. HMU if you in the Boston area :)
Will do :)
Joy is a beautiful ship. Encore also a little boring though. But breakaway out of Miami was ghetto

I know its only available through the solos program on NCL but you only get access to solos cruise directors on certain ships, the ships that have solo cabins. They don't help with the initial bookings just bookings once your on board. Hope this helps
@@MrBucketlist thanks for replying. Yea its a solo cabin on the Epic! Hoping for the best :)
Thanks for the informational video.
Your welcome thanks for watching
@@MrBucketlist I am going to try out these when I am on norwegian in 2023. I am doing a inside on POA because I didn't know that solo was a option.
NCL does solo cruising RIGHT! I had a ball. Enjoy 😁
But your exactly right last minute deals are so cheap it's a gamble but it can really pay off if you time it right
I have solo cruised too but got a regular cabin for less than the solo room on NCL. Once I got upgraded to a balcony
I agree with you in the solo traveling.
People either love the Epic or hate it! The Epic is usually cheaper than other NCL ship.
Very good review!
Thankyou!
Yea I've heard celebrity is pretty good I need to try it out
@@MrBucketlist it is more upscale. But there are no deals like NCL. You pay the fare X 2 just like having two people in the cabin.
@@MrBucketlist Thanks for sharing your experience. I've got shore excursions setting off at 7 am and I'll want quiet neighbors at night!
Amazing
Thanks. Its a good time
I'm officially "medically retired" and I plan on doing a lot of travel and most of those will be cruises if I love them as much as I think I will. Thanks for your video, it was really nice to get your perspective.
Your welcome! I booked everything on my own directly through the website.
Very hard to find a solo cruise that isn't sold out. Seems to be very popular with many.
Yea especially now I think crews lines are not willing to lose that money on double occupancy but there out there i have a few booked for this summer
What bugs me is that I pay double for my solo cruise with Fred Olsen but I'm only going to eat half the damn food during the week! Just to rub salt in the wound I bought a drinks package but a few months later they were giving the package free!
Lol yea that's a rip off. I definitely think more cruise lines need to cater towards single cruisers and to lose the single supplement fee
Did many people hang out in the solo lounge?
They did. Their was a daily solo meet up that had about 20 guests per day.
How much is it to play pool?
At the time it was free.
We’re there any solo travellers in their 50’s or 60’s?
Oh yea. The solo cruises I met were primarily in that age range.
Have fun!
MrBucketlist
Thanks for the reply my friend, I’m travelling up from London England so I don’t want to make a waisted journey. do you think NYE on a ship would be busy?
MrBucketlist when is your new cruise video being released?
It should be out by tomorrow at the latest. Working on it right now
$600 😳😳😳 I paid almost 1600...oh wait, I cruised 7days...whewww...🤦🏽♀️thought I was hoodwinked there for a second
Lol yea it was a 4 day cruise....BUT I am going on another solo cruise in 2 weeks which is a 7 night west Caribbean and after the drink package and 3 excursions it was about 1100 all together. So be careful
I was in that ship on december and to be honest didn't like it. The food wasn't that good not that good entertainment, didn't like the cabin.
Yea on this ship it's always a gamble if it's going to be a good time or not. Sorry to hear that
Nobody I know likes the Epic.... only bad reviews
