  • "Balletlujah" is a moving new documentary about the making of a ballet based on the life and music of k.d. lang. She, as well as artistic director, Jean Grand-Maître, are in Studio q to talk to Shad about the merging of their creative worlds and the emotional landscapes they have each traversed through the project.

q is a magazine show that’s unpredictable in the best sense - proud to be “a wild mix of culture by way of Canada” as described by the New York Times. The Globe & Mail noted the show’s “raging popularity across a variety of platforms -- podcasts, television, websites, satellite radio, terrestrial radio, and occasional live remote broadcasts."

I think the most interesting parts of this interview were hearing what k.d. says about her Buddhism and spirituality and her internal quiet experiences of growing up on the vast prairie. I think it shows more of her soul - deep down.... And, as always, it shows who she is. I love her!!!

an excellent interview. Everyone came off well here. Often interviewers can be uninformed idiots, but this young man was intelligent and sensitive and asked interesting, thought-provoking questions. Kudos all round

The dumb question Barbara Walter asked k d about her love songs really hit me wrong. This interview was enjoyable. k d is always so gracious with her answers and at times are humorous. I grew up in Iowa and some of the animal abuse I've seen farm animals endure give me nightmares. I applaud k d for speaking out for them and am so sorry she was hurt by some for doing so. When the choreographer for "Balletlujah" stated that love is not about gender but about love was spot on. This is a very intelligent pleasant interview that I'm happy to have found.

She has a great voice and even among the worlds best female singers, she could hold her head up proudly. I would love to see her try a record in the style now called "Classic Rock". Or a good blues album. She sounds a little like Etta James with that strong but feminine and rich voice. I used to plow phone cable into the ground in the 80's in Southern Alberta, and one time I found us working in her little home town. We even went into her high school and saw pictures of her playing basket ball. It is interesting to note that when The Rolling Stones released their 1997 album " Bridges To Babalon" (sorry spelling) there was one song titled " Anybody Seen My Baby?" Keith Richards was giving it a final listen before release and suddenly heard his daughters singing " Constant Craving". He and Mick Jagger turned it over to the lawyers and it was felt that it would just be better overall if they gave KD Lang writing credits on their song. Afterwards when interviewed, Keith said he had never heard of her or her song. So a pretty cool story and I think it showed a lot of class for the Stones to do that. KD said she was thrilled about it.
